those of you who are now x-jws, did you ever lead a double life while you were "in"?
did you have "worldly" friends, watch r rated movies, drive fast cars and do other things you weren't supposed to do, yet believed you were a "good" jw because you belived in the truth, "put in time", and attended meetings?
if you did, how long did it take you to see the truth about the truth and leave?
About six months later, I learned that there are many who are leading a double life. Some watched R-Rated movies, some even X-Rated movies. Some practiced oral sex, some where homosexuals, some were child molesters.
Just curious. After being a JW for only six months, you found out JW's who were praticing oral sex, homos and child molesters? After six months? Geez, which congregation did you go to? lol

Good question. In my case it probably wasn't the "traditional" double-life (smoking, watching R-rated movies, etc.). It was being an elder and not believing "the truth" anymore. I lived this "doudle-life" for probably a couple of years, just going through the motions. I remember giving public talks, standing there in front of a 100 or so people and for 45 minutes teaching them about stuff I didn't believe in. It was a very weird feeling looking at a room full of people and telling them that "we are living in the last days" (or whatever the flavor of the week was) while at the same time hearing this voice in my head saying "how can you teach this bs?"

I find it ammusing that poster are saying "Ha! The US is pulling it's WMD people out of Iraq." Then Yeru posts the real story showing that this wasn't the case and "poof" previous alligations are just forgotton. Why?
Personally, I could careless if they find WMD or not. Intelligence about the military of other countries is never 100%. The people of Iraq are better off without Saddam and, again, good for them but whatever.
There is only one thing these countries in the middle east are going to listen to and that if superior military force. People do not realize that they are going to keep doing what they do (i.e. support terrorism) unless they know for sure they will be next on the US's invasion list. Why do you think Libya suddenly wants to be a "nice" nation? Why is Syria suddenly not the the terrorist resort it use to be?
Sheesh, people, just look at the way the Brits and Frech screwed up during the 1930's and didn't check Hitler's hand when they had the chance. I can't believe that there are so many people out there that think it's ok to have these world leaders around that are leading their people against the US. Leaders that, given the opportunity, would love to strike against the US. Sure, we should have just waited until AFTER Saddam had nukes. That's exactly what Clinton did in the 1990's with North Korea and look at that mess.
being as i haven't been to a convention in years, i have a couple of questions:
do they still come out with that list of special-jw-rate hotels at the service meeting for the summer conventions?
also, i remember times when the list would be practically useless by the time my parents got home from that service meeting and started trying to make reservations.
I didn't realize until I worked in Finance at the assemblies that a big reason they wanted all the JWs to use the hotels the org told them to is because they get a kickback in the form of free rooms.
I never knew this. Who got the free rooms? I can probably guess, but I'm curious to what you saw.
being raised a jw, i honestly did not know what a great big world we live in.
all the places i never went to see, things i wanted to do,,,, because i figured , i will just do that when the new world gets here.

Roybatty, you hit it right on the head for me: having the evenings free and weekends! I used to hate Tuesdays and Thursdays and had to go thru the day pretending I wasn't going to the meeting. Half of the time, I didn't. What torture!
Tell me about it Pat! At one time I was an elder in a congregation that only had three elders. Monday night prepare for the bookstudy, Tuesday night conduct bookstudy, Wednesday night write at LEAST one meeting part for Thursday, Thursday night conduct second school and give talk (and listen to the usual bs complaints from people in the congregation or go to some late night elders meeting, Friday night do accounts, make sheperding calls, collect publisgers hours, etc. Saturday field service, Sunday at least give a public talk once a month and go out in field service.
IT'S INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder we had a boat load of ex-elders. Honestly, we must have had a dozen of them in our congregation of about 100 people. JW's just don't realize that life is wizing right past them. ZOOM!

After a loooong day at work, I enjoy being able to go home on a "meeting night" and just resting. Resting, playing with my kids, having a decent dinner and helping my kids with their homework. All because we don't have to rush out to the meeting. The thing that always cracked me up was the Society's "it's only 5 hours a week" slogan. Yeah, right. Did they ever try to get kids ready or have to make dinner? I think not.
Ahhh....just being more able to relaaaaaaxxx................ :)

on one games sight (starwars) they say x-box but i've never heard anything about that??

I would suggest Playstation. They have a better game library and sony is a better developer overall. The only real hit X-Box ever had was Halo.
My 12-year old son has both PS2 and X-box. By far he plays X-box more and Halo is the best game of all time. There are three TVs downstairs, so his friends bring their X-boxs over, they hook them together via the built in network connection and a network box. It's pretty cool to see 12 kids playing Halo against each other at the same time. And supposedly Halo 2 is suppose to be 10 times larger. He also has that Ghost Recon game. Also pretty good but nothing even comes close to Halo. Gamers should get Xbox just for that one game.

well, this is no longer a rumor.
on the hannity & colmes show last night, foxnews, this 'rumor' was confirmed to be true.. the reason for the public silence (not told on the show) but by the rumor mill, is to keep hillary on a low profile, not to create a public stir.
Again, I have to chuckle at people who imagine people like Bush are jes' good common folk, looking to help common people out. His actions throughout his life prove otherwise. His actions in office prove otherwise.
I agree. That's why I said Bush was born with "several silver spoons in his mouth." But so was Hillary. Come to Illinois some time and I'll show you where she grew up and went to school. You won't find any "jes' good common folk." If I could pick someone for president it would be Speaker of the House Denny Hassert. He's a former high school teacher and wrestling coach. He's from the area where I live. Talk about down to earth, you still can see him driving himself around town, goes to the same barber I bring my son to and it's common to see him eating at the local cafe with the farmers.
I'll be honest, I'm no expert on Hillary, in fact, as a witness, I had a very negative view of Hillary and Bill both. But since then, the truth be accepted, they are both very smart people, and they are very much more sincere about their public service than the group in the white house now. America did quite well in many ways under Bill Clinton's leadership, and would probably do pretty well under Hillary's leadership. Personally I hope she doesn't run (and I don't think she will at this point), as she would be divisive, just as Bush is divisive.
Show me how the "average Joe" benefitted from 8 years of Clinton. Please give me some examples. I own a small manufacturing business. During the 8 years of Clinton, I saw manufacturing jobs leave the states and head off to China and Mexico. What did Clinton do? Nothing. I'm not saying Bush is doing much better but at least he's not selling himself as Clinton did ("I feel your pain"). And it's been seen that the economy under Clinton was pretty much a house of cards. Overpriced tech stocks that made instant millionares at the expense of us common folk.
Many know what makes me chuckle? People talk about Bush and his servatude toward the rich. Well, where was Clinton when all of us common folk were getting screwed by executives from companies like Enron and others? Oh that's right, Hillary was right there making millions herself. Makes me chuckles to the point of tears.

Hmmm...Abraham Lincoln and Gandi also acted on what he believed in. So which examples do you want to use that it's good to act upon what you believe?
Respect people who are intelligent and make intelligent evidence based decisions that do the most good and the least harm. Seems like our common experience would have taught you that, Roy.
Ah, just have to get a personal dinger in there? Well, give me an example. I would say that you've again fallen into the trap of wishing to find some leader to take care of you. Just as the WT promised you paradise, people like Hillary and her pals promise everyone the world at no cost (i.e. insurance for everyone). What government plans are you hoping to take advantage of?
We've got a college fratboy for the president of our country. "Bring 'em on", he said. They did and they are.LOL! And what exactly is Hillary??? She grew up here in Illinois and went to the most expensive prep schools in the area. She also lived in the most expensive and exclusive neighborhoods. And speaking of being "qualified", again I ask you. What jobs did she have that "qualified" her to be a senator?

Why? Do you have children? Do you want their lives affected because someone with stupid, harsh, irrational beliefs "acted on what he believed"? Why respect someone for that? And since it's pretty well documented that Karl Rove built GW Bush (almost Geppetto/Pinocchio like), why would you think that GW Bush is someone who "believes" much of anything? I'll grant you that he isn't "afraid to act", but so what?
Why respect someone for acting on what they believe in? Are you serious? What's better who has integrity or someone like the Clintons who have to check a public opinion poll before they decide what they believe in. Again, look at Hillary. "Oh, I'm a champion for the poor" then uses..or misuses...the system to get insider information to make millions on animal futures. Real champion of the people.
What exactly do you hate about Bush? Do you hate it that he's taken the war to the terrorists home turf? That he inherited a recession and is turning it around? What do you hate? What makes Hillary so much better?
