  so i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.

  i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.

  i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

  How exactly does a solid tooth become hollow? I asked an atheist recently how he explained this.

  Do you actually believe that all atheists believe in evolution? Do you actually believe that all atheists are knowledgeable enough about evolution to answer a question about how a hollow fang evolved in a snake? Quoting someone who is not an expert and then attacking that statement is being dishonest.

  This reminds me of the “Creation” book that the JWs put out years ago. In that book, they quoted an “evolutionist.” Readers were led to assume the “evolutionist” was an evolutionary scientist, but Francis Hitching was not ‘any’ kind of scientist. Richard Dawkins who ‘is’ an evolutionary biologist wrote about Hitching’s book, “The Neck of the Giraffe:” It "is one of the silliest and most ignorant I have read for years." And this book is widely quoted by creationists.

  There are many complex life forms, but to look at them without studying them and then come to the conclusion that they had a designer and maker is being intellectually lazy.

  Many would reply that we're surrounded by Credible Evidence in virtually all directions,

  Let them supply it so it can be critically reviewed by their peers. Oh wait. You mean someone walking in a park admiring a bumble bee and hence concluding that someone had to have designed and made that little feller.
  

  yet not all are able to see it.

  See what? Evidence of evolution? Those who stick to the dogma of ancient mythical beliefs will never see anything beyond those beliefs. If your belief is based on faith then you'll have to reject all evidence that does not support your belief. Not to worry. You have the majority of mankind behind you. If it was as simple as putting it to a vote, the theory of evolution would lose by a landslide.
  

  It may be that there is an intense underlying belief (or fear) which renders them unable to see.

  Which happens in churches everywhere.

  My recollection of the JW literature regarding creationism is how amazing the earth was made just right for us. God made just the right amount of heat from the sun, just the right amount of oxygen for us to breathe, animals and plants for us to eat, etc.

  Actually, the opposite is true: Simply put, the earth and everything upon it made us. We are the product of billions of years of evolution. Overwhelming evidence supports this. Some folks criticize what know nothing about. That's what the Governing Body does and that's what we left behind.

  Trying to reason that there must be a designer, maker or agent is just an effort to make some sense of it all, but there is no credible evidence to support such beliefs.

  i'd like share why i went from being a teenager determined to work in full time service for jehovah my entire life, to now being on here commiserating with you all.

  i use to be an atheist but i now believe in god.

  but i'm not preachy about god.

  IMHO, I think it says something when atheists are just as intent in disproving a god just the same as when a theist is so intent on proving their god.

  You still have your JW hat on. I'm not criticizing you. We all went through it when we left the org but I'm ten years ahead of you. If believing brings you comfort, then by all means do so.

  When I discovered that I had been duped, I felt ashamed and angry at the same time. It will take a very long time for you to recover; some never do. Just remember... direct your anger to those who deserve it and don't apologize.

  he was about 10 metres from me when i noticed him.

  It took over a year for me to leave the town where I had attended the KH. During that time I came across a few of the "friends" that I had known for years. ALL of them looked at the ground or turned the other way pretending not to see me. I think much of this behavior is fear rather than snobbery.

  I had a real experience with God's spirit and I believe he is active in my life.

  I'm happy for you. I don't think that there are many people who have shed more tears and prayed more earnestly than I have or have came closer to committing suicide than I have only to experience absolutely nothing from a nonexistent God. I did survive through perseverance but not because of any God who could not give a shit about my welfare.

  But that's not the reason for my being a nonbeliever. Become a critical thinker; question everything. You'll find that the arguments presented by believers are based upon faith. Don't overlook the possibility that your God experience could have been caused by some rational explanation.

  My son was a drug addict off and on for many years. Toward the end of his life he told me how he had talked with God. It was real to him.

  I went from being a believer but not attending any church to being a JW to leaving the JWs but still believing to being an agnostic to being an atheist. I'm now the happiest I've ever been.

  I don't believe the creation account in Genesis is to be taken literally.

  Or to be taken seriously. Creationism is a belief based upon faith. Evolution is a theory based upon evidence.
