over the past few weeks i have been thinking about this and wanted to get your input.. it seems to me the wbts has taken one scripture, jer.
10:23 (the heart is treacherous, who can know it) and used it to build their whole religion.
they have convinced us that all of men's hearts are pure evil, and i just don't find that to be true!.
Great question, LDH, and good points everyone else!
Something that really irked me was the WTS's continuous illustration of murderers as a warning against using your own (non "bible-based") conscience, as opposed to their WTS style of thinking. It was such an extreme example, yet I KNEW that if Jehovah had issued us with a conscience, then why couldn't we use it? The murderer illustration gradually just didn't cut it for me anymore.
I started to think of my own (horrors!) and realised my life was better when I DID follow my conscience, and not rely on the WTS to tell me what to do. My let my head and my heart decide on matters, based on morals that I personally live by, and guess what? Life is good!
found an interesting web site here, linked from freeminds.org: http://www.stormloader.com/shaun/xfiles.htm.
brother b basically told the gb a few home truths and was removed for his efforts.. a couple of things i found interesting:.
the society did of course contact the local elders regarding .
The organisation really misses out so much by refusing to be honest with itself and its adherents by refusing to open its ears to the real feelings and thoughts of the rank and file.
There are so many opportunities for improvement, correction of doctrines and just mainly getting in step with today's society, yet by putting their fingers in their ears and singing "lalalala" they are getting no where.
When are they going to listen?
my parents are witnesses and my brother who has been inactive most of his life still says it is the truth.
they are all very unhappy people.
i got to thinking about it and i can't recall ever knowing any witnesses who were very happy.
RHW, I agree with you 100%. I used to feel so bad while in was in the org, trying to do what was expected of me, always conscious that I should be doing "more". I'd feel I was never up to what Jehovah was expecting of me. WRONG!! It was what the WTS wanted from me, not God.
I dedicated myself to more Bible reading in an effort to be "better". Funnily enough, my Bible reading helped me to realise what Jehovah really wanted from me, and I discerned what the WTS was making up all these unrealistic expectations of me, and not God Himself.
I never pioneered, and one of the reasons why was that the pioneers I knew never looked happy. They looked strained, pressed for time, usually working in menial, low-paying jobs that meant they had to work more to earn enough to pay for their dingey little flat they lived in, and to pay for the early-model car that was always threatening to fall apart from rust. The only new clothes they seemed to buy was for the assembly, and even then it was from K-mart!
I'd have to say I am so much happier since I left that depressing organisation that tries to pass itself off as a religion.
To any JW reading this : there is a life outside the org, and it's so much better!
some years ago, the jw leadership was forced to confront some resistance to its instructions.
a study article was printed in which many threats were made, such as those who think themselves of the remnant and who disregard the instructions of the lord are following a fatal course.. this same article reached a low point however, when it stated, in blasphemous terms:.
such self-willed ones do not have an understanding.
Good points, Ozzie.
They never have said "oops, sorry, we made a mistake here... sorry guys"!!
It'd be nice if they did.
one result of the reorganization of october 2000 is that all the full time workers , now members of the "religious order of jehovah's witnesses", have to take a "legal vow of poverty" to remain in service.
the speculation has been that this new requirement is due to recent legal claims in some european nations that the wtbts was liable for retiement, medical, and unemployment taxes/benefits.. ah, but what about all of the hours and hours of work done by full time representatives of the wtbts prior to the reorganization and the poverty vow?
it seems to me that the obsessive record keeping of the wtbts is going to bite them in their behind should the service records be available via the legal discovery process as part of lawsuits for back wages and benefits by disgruntled workers.. has the wtbts destroyed the potentially incriminating service records?
6. The telephone directory is just chock full of lawyer advertisements.
Nice quote - made me smile.

hi, prisca,.

Hi Norm, I’m Prisca and I’ve been here a while...
Are you speaking for yourself, giving your opinion, or are you speaking on behalf of the jw.com community? ...Who has decided that this board isn’t the place for this? Is there a general consensus on the board about this, or have you decided this all by yourself?
Yes, I am speaking for myself and others. If you read further down the thread, you would have read comments from ZazuWitts, ISP, Xandit and Sassenach who were in total agreement with me.
There are also others I have spoken to who have been turned away from this site because of the overbearing nature of some of the new posters here. You won’t be reading their comments because they don't come here like they used to.
If the information in a post is familiar to you, have you considered the option of ignoring it, simply not reading it? How do you know that no one else is interested in the material?
Yes, I do overlook them, and skip onto the threads that do interest me. I am NOT saying no one else is interested in the material either.
The point is : some information that has been posted, based on the poster's own thoughts and observations is interesting and worthwhile reading (including your posts, Norm!).
The posts I was referring to were posting information that is simply a re-hashing of information easily available on WT Observer, Freeminds, Crisis of Conscience, etc.
Then the posters post it in such a way that it doesn't encourage further discussion - it seems that they have covered anything and everything anyway.
There is so much information, that I feel exhausted just trying to read it - so I don't read it, since I barely have the time to read all the other posts here.
Perhaps you need to cut back on the caffeine awhile, Prisca—you seem rather tense.
LOL – I don’t drink coffee.
don’t you think someone could misunderstand this as arguing? Is animosity a question of style or of content?
I am merely expressing an opinion. I don’t intend to start a fight with anyone. That’s certainly not my style. Maybe some males don’t like females expressing their own thoughts and opinions in a definite manner? ie. If a male does so, he’s considered assertive; when a female does the same, she’s considered a bitch? In my books, I don’t really care who’s male or female – we are all considered equals here.
Can you give examples of posts of which you disapprove?
I think I described them so that the offending posters know who they are.
I am talking about excessive amounts of information being posted in the one thread. Reams of pages’ worth. Why? Is it NEW LIGHT?? I have suspicions that some – NOT ALL of these posters do it to stroke their own ego. And Norm, that is just my opinion, I haven’t done a poll with the rest of the posters.
And if you re-read my posts, nowhere do I say that I don’t want H2O people posting here. Some of them have moved over gracefully, and I love having them here. It’s the animosity that I do not like, and neither do the others, I'm sure.
Or is it a rule that if people from H2O come here, we must conform to your rules about what we can post?
There are no rules, except as what Simon said – be civil and no spamming.
However, bursting into the scene with a “look at me, look at me!!” type mentality and taking over the scene without regard for others is not the way to win friends and influence people.
Every party has its own atmosphere – I feel that some should stop and observe the scene a little before trying to take over.
