i am watching the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of ve day.

80 years since the defeat of nazi germany in 1945. i find the interviews of the stalwart men and women who played their part very moving.

these veterans speak with pride and sadness about their experiences, those they lost, those they fought alongside.

LHG, And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda isn't the original song by Banjo Patterson which is, as you rightly pointed out, over a hundred years old. Although it was older than 1980; I remember it being played at a school assembly in at least 1979.

The above quoted song is about a bloke who goes off to the trenches* of WWI, gets his legs blown off and his reward is to be met, at his his arrival back in Sydney, by a band playing Waltzing Matilda. I assume that the song by Eric Bogle is meant to be a pacifist piece about the evils of war.

*Gallipoli, specifically

recent court documents show that members of the jehovah’s witnesses governing body — including former member tony morris — have been officially subpoenaed to give sworn testimony regarding cases of sexual abuse in new york and how the organization dealt with (or essentially hid) them.

Hey, current GB, does it make you nervous that you might be doing time for Ted Jaracz's crimes? 😀 Time to trot out a bunch of silly articles about how a prison sentence is no proof that one is not fit to lead God's people. It worked for Rutherford, after all! 🙄

What did the WTS say the "inner rooms" to find safety

as recently as 2025, the wts has compared the "inner rooms" to the congregation as a place of safety.

do you remember this?

notice the "weasel words" the wts uses to lay the foundation for "adjustment" or "clarification" of their statements.

How does that work? 🤔 You're hiding from your would be persecuters in a building where everyone could find you? Were JWs in 1930s Germany able to hide in Kingdom Halls?

Did the Fred Franz style of writing cease after he died?

i was completely out by 1991 and 1989 would have been the last time i had to attend regularly.

that over the top franz writing style was still there in the 1980's although i've heard he wasn't actually doing much writing by then.

but his style was definitely picked up and imitated for many years beyond its wacky, outlandish peak of the the 50's - 70's.

This "new writer" is a fascinating concept. Why on Earth 🌍 would they pick a single writer to try and fill Franz's shoes. And why one who seems to have been so unlike him*? Was his dismissal the reason for the writing department, or did that already exist in some form? If it already existed, why find one golden haired boy to replace Fred?

* My thumbnail projection would be the usual: he ticked the right boxes not related specifically to writing, and he sucked up to the right people in the right way.

here is an example how the wts has "adjusted" scripture.

the governing body has gone as far as to change the text of micah 6:8 in their 2013 new world translation of the holy scriptures (nwt) in order to be able to demand loyalty.

Remember that when you're tempted to think that the WT is pursuing a "kinder,gentler" approach. They've literally edited kindness* out of their bible in favour of loyalty. 🙄

*In the NKJV, it's "mercy", with "or 'lovingkindness''" as a footnote. I thought I'd better do an "other translations" comparison before commenting.
