In the early church you had people that taught Premillennialism in the form that Christ would pop up as King on earth and restore it. You had people that believed the torment of the damned lasted 1,000 years "only" or that they after ages of torment would be saved, perhaps even more charitable views. But I have never heard of anyone in Christian context prior to Russell claiming that almost all the dead would be raised on earth to education and second chance. On the other hand it is hard to imagine he made it up himself 😊

Cookiemaster, maybe they got a new marketing man saying we need a "worldly" cute casual style girl. I noticed her too a few hours ago, only because a Lloyd Evans video popped up with her in it😄

How do JWs view the Ransom?

Stephen lett's comment was probably not well thought over. In jw teaching, Jesus is God's ever obedient super servant and what makes God happy, makes Jesus happy. If anything it shows a disdain for Jesus you dont find in the Bible

LV101, I basically believe God became man but no trinity. He was existing as God but simultaniously took on the existence of man in the incarnation (Philippians 2:6-7).

Vanderhoven7, exactly. Arianism/Unitarianism might be more rational, but there is a profound power in Jesus being God himself. In JW theology, Jesus is enigmaticly both the creator of all other things and one of the princes. I remember a video about young people making the wonderful choice of full time ministry and Stephen Lett said "It would make Jesus happy and more importantly it would make Jehovah happy". I had to listen to that a few times before it sinked in. He really said that

LV101, yes Russell was very different from Rutherford. It was not the simplicity of the gospel but a charitable altruistic alternative gospel he presented and no shunning in the JW sense, no blood policy, no ban of christmas, birthdays. All that came with a different spirit from Rutherford and later. It is also true that while the reformers were hard men in hard times, their work not only brought the simplicity of the gospel to light but also humanism and atheism.
Well EverApostate. I agree there is not much to gain from the death of a servant god. I agree there is not much to gain from the JW version. But God himself becoming man and partaking in our suffering is a high level philosophy that makes me completely dizzy and overwhelmed

LV101 my father was a JW but believed Russell had better understanding. Yet nobody except himself were allowed to critique the GB. I remember my mother said in defiance there is much we do not know and that the mags speculate too much 😄😄. My experience is that when you need to add and speculate concerning the simplicity of the gospel, you are on wrong track 😊

Personally I am currently not sure if we are in the Millennium (Amillennialism and Preterist Premillennialism), if it is past (Transmillenialism and Preterist Premillennialism) or future (Postmillenialism). It is not of that much relevance to me. Revelation 20 is so abused. I believe we are in the Meditorial Kingdom for sure ☺️

I have heard some say Russell's millenium teaching came from Masonite teachings. It sure as Hell did not come from the Bible.
You probably mean Premillennialism. Russell and JW are premill along with many other Doomsday preachers. Things turn worse and worse and then one day Christ shows up, do some judging and then the millennium starts. At the end of the millennium the great judgment. Amillennialism is the traditionel Catholic and Protestant take where Matt 28:18 marked the beginning of the millennium, the mediator reign. Things will turn worse and worse because man is bad and then one day the millennium ends and an angry Christ shows up and judges. Postmillennialism is the same except things are expected to turn out good with a yet future millennium with miracles and revivals and then one day it ends and Christ shows up and judges. There are other forms like Transmillenialism and Premillennial Preterism
