Stats on Gay Marriage & Religious Belief
by snare&racket inso just how non-judgmental, tolerant, respectful, caring, loving, liberal and humane are the religious groups?.
"findings from prris american values atlas, which draws on 40,000 interviews among a random sample of americans, provides the most in-depth portrait to date of attitudes on same-sex marriage by religious affiliation.. the most supportive major religious groups are buddhists (84 percent), jews (77 percent), and americans who select other religion (75 percent); additionally, more than three-quarters (77 percent) of the religiously unaffiliated also support same-sex marriage.. more than six in ten (62 percent) white mainline protestants support same-sex marriage.
among white mainline protestant denominations, support ranges from 69 percent support among white mainline presbyterians and 68 percent among both white episcopalians and white congregationalists/united church of christ members, to lower support among white mainline baptists (53 percent) and white mainline church of christ/disciples (50 percent).. and while the catholic church officially opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage, about six in ten white (61 percent), hispanic (60 percent), and other non-white catholics (60 percent) support allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry legally.

The first 4000 years Jehovah communicates with humans, the next 2000 years is given to Jesus and he communicates with no one.
by smiddy inthe bible has ample evidence of god communicating with humans during the first 4 centuries.. since jesus time ,god has not communicated with humans at all .,in the same way as he did in the first 4 centuries .. in fact jesus has not communicated with humans in the same way as jehovah did for the first 4000 years., during his 2000 years to this date , .
does not the bible say , god does not change , he is the same today as he was yesterday and will be tomorrow ?.
so why was god communicating with humans on a regular basis , one way or another for 4000 years and then , neither jehovah or his son jesus christ ever directly contacted humans ?.

The Confederate Flag
by Simon inthe latest controversy over the confederate flag just sums up to me the state of dysfunction that exists in american society.. in summary: a white supremacist nutter shoots 9 black people dead in a church.
he's clearly inspired by the messages of others which the confederate flag is often a symbol of.. it seems like a no-brainer to remove it.
not only isn't it removed, it isn't even lowered at all as a mark of respect.. and of course now there are the people who want to defend their right to have it.

While I agree with Simon that the confederate flag needs to be put into a museum and has no place flying over govt. buildings, I also see the current debate as symbolism over substance. Removing the flag from American consciousness is not going to end the plague of racism. Removing it may be a start, but certainly not the end of racism in America or abroad.
We have an African American President, African Americans make huge contributions to American society in science, education and the arts. Yet statistics show that as a class African Americans are poorer, less educated and more discriminated against than their white counterparts.. It's time that we as a nation come to grips with the fact that while we'd like to think that racism is a thing of the past, it's just simply not true. Racism is alive and well in America.
What we need to be asking is how are we going to make substantive changes to achieve a truly color blind society.

Blood Transfusion Options for Parents
by ctrwtf ini didn't want to hijack the anderson's informative thread below, so i thought i'd post something i've been thinking about for quite awhile now, regarding children and blood transfusions.. even the bloodthirsty god the wits worship probably wouldn't hold it against a child if their legal guardian forced them to have a blood transfusion.
legally, morally, even cognitively children especially as young as the tyke in the story referenced cannot make decisions for themselves.
so this story, and many others, is not about the child's will but rather the parents will.

So this story, and many others, is not about the child's will but rather the parents will. Personally, I decided from the time my first child was born, if he/she needed blood they would get it on my authority. What's the worst that could happen to me? DA'd? So what? After a few years and a few "wow I'm really sorry brothers, I was under duress" I'd be back in the fold. I'd even take the heat for the missus.
As for my eternal future? Hey, Jesus died so that others may live. I'm just following his example.
Do these moronic parents even think about their options? Wait a minute, I know the answer to my own question.
As Oubliette would write, "It's a cult!"

Big Logical Problem for New JW Beliefs
by FusionTheism inthere is a huge logical problem for the newer jw doctrines and beliefs:.
watchtower, august 1, 2010, page 22:.
so although jehovah does not promise that every individual will receive exactly the same opportunity, he does make sure that an opportunity is held out to all honesthearted ones.

Can you imagine the NY Times writing an article that asks its readers just to accept what is written?
Unbelievable arrogance.
