No person or corporation is FORCED to take money. It seems as if they wanted to take the high road they could donate any proceeds or shares to another charity.
Oh wait, er....there is no high road when it comes to wtbs and $$.
why is this the first time i have come across this?
my husband showed me a video about how the jws invest in stock like cinemax, disney, companies producing war weapons, alcohol and much much more.
if this is true, there are tax records to show for it right?

...why the f**k do i so often see banner ads for "jehovah's witness dating" here?

so how many are not going to the regional convention this year?
it will be my first year not attending as part of my fade.. i remember going for all of my childhood into adult hood, participating in stage parts even.. however, last assembly i was already mentally checked out.
i remember looking around and seeing all of people bobbing & nodding at the program talks that had been previously repeated time and time again.. almost seemed like hypnosis.. i also had a hard time with the fact that we're all supposed to be "friends" and everyone had always seemed to be so judgmental.. especially at conventions & assemblies.. things like who had the best outfit for the days, who looked the prettiest, who can snag the single ms brother.. who took the most spiritual food out of the program, how many times can you tally mark jehovah's name.
there is no typical jw personality type.. any of us who were in the religion for a number of years will remember all sorts of individuals.
there is as much variety among jws as there is in the general population.
some were arrogant and judgemental but others were humble and kindly.
Eight years since I've left and I still find vestiges of that cynical outlook in myself.
Still, I wonder how much of that is also echoed in society in general. Trumps "make America great again" catchphrase resounds among a populace that has been whipped into a frenzy by the religion of talk radio to think that we're in a downward spiral.
The reality is, as Cofty points out, that we are living in the best days of human existence.
You know, all those people enjoying a picnic are going to be "burnt hot dogs."
At least the new owners will have a front row view of all the Manhattan skyscrapers tumbling over at Armageddon.
This is despicable! Let's take advantage of the pain of real people to pump up our numbers!
A@#HATS!
as a non-jw, before i started looking into things, i must say i only encountered intelligent jws.
so i was quite surprised to read here and in the pew report about their low overall educational achievement.
granted, my exposure was limited (less than a handful of people over a lifetime) but i met two of them in post-college education (graduate school) at a very good school.
