Why is this the first time I have come across this? My husband showed me a video about how the jws invest in stock like Cinemax, Disney, companies producing war weapons, alcohol and much much more. What?! If this is true, there are tax records to show for it right? If that's the case it is so black and white. Why can't people see the organization for what it is? Yes I was once brainwashed as well but this would be pretty solid proof. To see the insane amount of money the organization is investing in stocks, yet the end is near and they have no money. I am so sick to my gut right now. Can someone help clear this up. My husband and I are lost.

WT does not invest. But people may have long-term investments made for example from before they became JWs and then the WT has inherited these stocks upon their death, and as far as I have understood it, US laws in certain respects are such that one cannot "get out" of the ownership. There are some very technical discussions here that seem alein to us non-US ones, but that at least is how I have been able to understand it.

I think that they are the named Benificiaries of the Henrietta Reily trust and as such have no say in that , in other words someone has named them to take the money when dividends are due , they still take the money though and must know the source of it . I think this is so but anyone correct me if I'm wrong please.

No person or corporation is FORCED to take money. It seems as if they wanted to take the high road they could donate any proceeds or shares to another charity.

Oh wait, er....there is no high road when it comes to wtbs and $$.

I am no fan of the WTS, but stock and assets donated to the WTS are theirs to do as they see fit. If I donated something, I would not want it sold off or re-donated, I would want it there for emergencies or perhaps as equity for some other cost or expense.

Then again, with theocratic warfare, you could say ANYTHING about the stocks and assets and still be ok

    Mr Theo,

You didn't mention the biggest 'investment' the wt has made, it is in silver, 30 pieces of it.

It seems as if they wanted to take the high road they could donate any proceeds or shares to another charity.

They are a legal "charity" (esp in their opinion, your thoughts may differ), so why would they give the donation to another charity. Some would then complain that doing so would be like you donating your Christmas Tree to someone else when you learn The Troof?

Do you think the RCC refuses donations from members affiliated with organized crime?

It's a situation like the fable of: The Man, The Boy, and The Donkey

I'm not a JW apologist, but when former JWs nit-pick at these things it undermines complaints that are genuine.

I'm an accountant. The guy in that video is misinformed. I've tried to contact him but he doesn't seem to want to listen to me.

Thanks guys! we just came across this and wanted to see if it was true or not. I'm not nitpicking trying to go against the wts for everything little thing, but to be apart of something my whole entire life and to find out it's all a lie makes me curious as to what is really going on behind closed doors. And I still have many family members apart of the wts and I hate seeing them be lied to too and fooled.
