Is it possible for any Country to have “Reasonable” Gun Laws? What would they be?
by pistolpete inso the new biden/harris gun policies are starting to appear.
it’s not clear yet, what they will be.. some suggestions; confiscate all guns.------buyback programs in each state.. there is much talk on social media that if this happens, the pandemic, + all the riots, + all the damaged property, + all the annual murders in america, - put together-will be like a sunday afternoon picnic, compared to all the deaths and property damage that will result because of “civil uprising” by millions of 2nd amendments advocates and just plain gun lovers.

That is an argument whose end point is the denial of a pinky-sized keychain pepper-spray aerosol to a 50kg woman who must walk to her car after sunset.
That kind of "all or nothing" cognitive disfunction (of a small percentage of the population) is a large aspect of the problem. Consider : I gave pepper spray to my wife and a friend for Christmas and I support universal background checks for gun sales. My brain did not explode.

Did You Fully Buy the WT View of Romans 6:7 (Acquitted of Sin by Dying) ?
by Sea Breeze inromans chapter 6 is about saying goodbye to the old personality, the old man in the king james version.
the old personality must die, he cannot be fixed.
the old personality is characterized by dominance of the flesh.

Rev 20:5a is a phrase that has invited debate for centuries. Manuscript evidence is pretty much a wash as the issue was already in debate before the earliest extant manuscripts. The best suggestion recommending it's inclusion is a simple scribal error. His eyes dropped from 1000 years in one sentence to the 1000 years in the next verse. It's logical and typical of such errors. Since manuscripts are a wash, as I said, the motivation to include or exclude largely stems from the theologian's take of the book's eschatology. Almost no one comes away from the book with the same understanding. If the work is to read on it's own terms it doesn't agree with the eschatology of the WT nor mainstream Christianity. It is pretty much exactly the late 2nd temple Jewish eschatology found in sister works of the period.
The wording is a bit clumsy but it may have reflected the author's own explanatory note. Who knows?

Well, my last comment was agreeing with you. Revelation was written by a subscriber in punishment after death. WT theology dismisses many passages in an effort to formulate a singular doctrine on death when in fact the OT and NT represent centuries of thought and an evolving concept of death and judgement.
And naturally I believed it.

The whole eschatology of Revelation is premised on dead being resurrected to face judgement. (first resurrection to a reward) and (2nd resurrection to be judged negatively and burned in Lake of Fire). This same scenario is found in numerous late 2nd temple targums. The dead are resurrected to be judged and those deemed wicked are put in Gehenna (aka Lake of fire).

by fulltimestudent ininteresting report in a oxford university blog - the world is becoming less religious, (hurray!!!).
quote: "an analysis of religious trends from 1981 to 2007 in 49 countries containing 60% of the world’s population did not find a global resurgence of religion—most high-income countries were becoming less religious—however, it did show that in 33 of the 49 countries studied, people had become more religious (norris and inglehart, 2011).
but since 2007, things have changed with surprising speed.

A conversation like this requires commitment to thoughtful engagement. I'm not seeing that.

TD...the assertion was "more guns equals more safety." I simply asked those who believe that, if the logic held true that proliferation of powerful weapons increase safety. I did not make the mistake of oversimplifying human behavior as you suggest. People will hurt each other with whatever means they have, if motivated to. That understanding is behind the logic of locking up the kitchen knives if an argument breaks out. It also is behind the logic of gun regulation.

Vanderhoven7.......It is only easy to justify killing the unborn by determining that they are not human or not babies.
You're not even trying to understand are you. Yes. To those who have concluded upon evidence that tissue following a genetic program is not yet a human being with sentience, ending that process is within the rights of the mother. No crime is committed if there is no individual being wronged. To those that insist that dna is the determinant of humanness, then I'm leaving millions of humans all over the couch through shed skin and mucous. Even a fully formed organ is not 'a human' and has no rights needing protection. No, it is the "mind" that suffers, the "mind" that contemplates it's existence, the mind that needs protection. Cells without a mind have no humanness. They are not humans.
Not until the 3rd trimester is there any potential at all that something akin to or arguably close to consciousness is possible. For me, in my estimation of available facts, that bears on the question of abortion.
