several conversations with current jw's have thrown up this validation of their faith.
i can think of several lines of refutation: .

Having said that, there's no doubt that numbers do mean something, so.....
I wonder how it is that right next door to Australia Bethel in an area where the number of dubs has been languishing for the past few years, that without any of the "house to house™" methodology of the WT, the conservative Anglican Church right next door has doubled in size of regular, active members in just the past two years?? !!!
No, there were no 'give-aways', no rock bands, no bingo, none of the things that the WT falsely claims is the case in all churches.
So, how come?
By doing real evangelising, by living an active faith in the community.

but, i decided to read the context of the verse....and it paints a different picture, atleast imo (ps i am not saying that females should be heads of congerations, now that is out of order.
) i'm using the message translation, for clarity.

This is an area that has been a huge change in our lives since departing from captivity to the man-man teachings of the Borg.
In my secular life, which was in the area of multinational corporations, I was well-used to sharing with female executives, my own P.A, was a female etc etc. In truth, I never took it to account, that is, gender made no difference to giftedness for positions of responsibility.
For Mrs Ozzie, life since the Borg has meant tremendous changes. She first was amazed that there was no secret "men's business" in church. She, like anyone else in the congregation, is free to know anything about deliberations of the church council.
In more recent times she has taken her own place on church council, being elected to the position for the past two years. At the same time, she has felt a calling to ministry and I exult in seeing her share the faith with other women, leading in church services and so on.
Now tomorrow comes another step for she is to be installed as a lay minister in our church.
How different her life has become in 10 years!
last night i experienced an ever increasing sensitivity and pain in a tooth and eventually even touching it with my tongue felt painful.
the gum next to it was also beginning to feel numb and swollen so i realised it must be some sort of infection in the root of the tooth.
it was vital to act fast because this kind of infection can spread fast and cause great pain and perhaps a loss of the tooth so first thing in the morning i went to the dentist, he decided it was a root infection and told me to try antibiotics and if they don't work he would do a root treatment.

would there be a backlash from current jws if the blood transfusion ban was lifted and made completely a conscience matter?.
i suspect, that only those who had lost a close relative would be bothered.
the others would just be relieved that they didn't have to worry about this traumatic issue anymore and they would carry on as ususal.. so, what is it, except for fear of legal action, that is stopping the ban being lifted?
