Data for Partakers from 1935-2016. Latest number wasn´t this high since 1954!
by ILoveTTATT2 ini gathered the data for the memorial partakers every year since 1935 (the first year they had data) until now.. the latest figures haven't been that high since 1954!.
this stat looks very bad in watchtower land because the decreasing # of partakers was given, for decades, as proof that the end was near!.

1917 - What REALLY happened?
by neat blue dog inregarding what happened post russell in 1917, if you ask a jw, they'll say it was the fault of the ousted board members who were 'self willed'.
if you ask an ex-jw, they'll say it was a 'power grab' by rutherford.
the latest yearbook elaborates on the situation:.

I used to have some of P.S.L. Johnson's books, and he went on and on about that time period. I don't remember a whole lot, but one thing I recall that struck me as almost funny, was that Rutherford waited until Johnson left the building at 124 Columbia Hts, and then locked the door and wouldn't let Johnson back in. That's how he 'expelled' Johnson.

Conan Doyle was also an ardent believer in Spiritualism (talking to the dead through seances). Actually that wasn't too unusual during the post WW1 period where a lot of people had lost sons in the War, and found it comforting to go to a seance and get 'messages' from Johnny.
One of Conan Doyle's books in his 'Professor Challenger' series mentions the Russellites, so he knew about them.

2017 Yearbook released
by bohm ini saw this on reddit:.
https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/comments/5mlgsm/2017_yearbook_of_jehovahs_witnesses/.
overall the numbers are better than last year (1.8% growth compared to 1.5% last year -- as i predicted ;-) ) with an increase in all major figures including 1300 more congregations (i assume this is not physical kingdom halls?).

Swahili is not spoken a lot in Congo. The primary language in Kinshasa is Lingala.

Now they even have internet.
Just to give this some context, I think what they do is download the video at Bethel or elsewhere where there is internet, then go out and show it to people on the street or in their homes using a tablet with batteries. I have a friend in Congo and that is what they do. They say that the Caleb videos are a hit with the children, as they have never seen cartoons before. -

I wish they would publish things like number of circuits, number of Kingdom Halls, data on foreign language congregations. Of course they never will.

ROJW - Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses
by OrphanCrow ini was going through some research i had done a few years ago and came across something that referenced rojw healthcare support and a note to myself to take a look at rojw when i had the time.
so i did a search for rojw (an acronym for religious order of jehovah's witnesses).. the search turned up some interesting bits of information.. according to dun & bradstreet, rojw was founded in 2011:.
since 2011, rojw has been providing nonclassifiable establishments from wallkill.. for a list of persons who have worked for rojw:.

"50 Years a Watchtower Slave" Chapter 10 Part B
by new boy inthe congregation there had about eighty “publishers” in it.
it was a mix of farmers and city folks.
there were three to four families there who had moved in from other states, to help out.

Yes, I recall that the pioneers got a literature discount at the back counter and could keep the additional markup for themselves. It wasn't much, so believe me no one was getting rich.

I think it is absolutely true that a lot of young men who went into pioneering at the Vietnam era were primarily trying to avoid going to prison over the draft issue. It still was not a guarantee, but having a written record of service time was valuable documentation for a minister classification.
Indeed, it has long been my contention that the station of 'pioneer', which has no scriptural precedent, was purely an invention to to one thing, to give the brothers a way to claim they were 'fulltime ministers' and get their minister classification.
