  I've read everything that Richard Bach has written, including One. My favorite part of One is when he winds up helping to burn the "sacred scrolls". There has to be a lesson there.

  I can't remember the rest, but it was really profound. I'll bet Shakespear didn't stand very well in the Church of England.

  He is interesting. Illusions is a quick read. You would enjoy it. I've read your religious profile which almost matches mine and it is right up your alley. BTW, what part of Greenland are you in. I've been to Sondestrom, Thule, and a Danish weather station called Nord way up on the northern coast. Whoever named it Greenland must have been in real estate promotion.

  i have a friend who is studying with the jw's right now.

  he's a very open minded guy and has been interested in hearing what i have to say on the matter.

  he has seen the dateline show (i taped it for him) - and i've shown him some info about the history.

  I agree with Onacruise. Arguing doctrine is fruitless. In some cases, the JWs are right for the wrong reasons. The things to emphasise are the damage to families, the abuses, the mind control exerted, the shunning, etc..

  Update On My Dad

  he's doing a little better, thank you, taking his antidepressants, staying off the sauce (we hope) and seeing a psychiatrist every week.

  we got my mom settled in her new nursing home and are trying to start the process of getting her on medicaid.

  we told dad we'd take care of it, and while he's not terribly thrilled with giving up financial control, he's just going to have to.. i've decided he has a streak of masochism in him or else he's a closet catholic, because he wanted to confess all to the committee of elders that disfellowshipped/reinstated him last time.

  The congregation witch hunt!

  has anyone ever studied the salem witch hunts and trails.

  what i found interesting about these, is how people who claimed to be peaceful, could get so riled up, that they were willing to kill people.

  the spark that lit the fire was often a rumor or false accusations that got out of hand, or perhaps a misunderstanding on a issue or people thinking they saw something they didn't.

  Certainly not! Using the police power of the state has a nasty habit of boomerranging on the user. Look what happened with the early Christians when the Roman emporers tried to outlaw them.

  my wife has this one friend, who we see a lot.

  she has been dating this guy for about six months and they are real serious, yet she will not say she loves him.

  i have listened to her many times explain how she can not say "i love you" easy.

  Today's Facts Give Us Insight to the Past

  i must admit, when the jw pedophile story first broke, i looked at it as just another bad story.

  yes, the story showed us another bad aspect of the witness creed, but with catholocism also being exposed at the same time with this issue, i looked at it as sad, but not very important.. now, with reports coming from around the world, it has come to my attention that this story gives us a real insight into the dark world of jehovah's witnesses.

  we have now right before our eyes had it proven to us that the watchtower society will lie to us and cover up its mistakes and try to continue on as if nothing has happened.

  It also clearly demonstrates that maintaining the organization is more important to the GB than any damage done to individual members of the organization, a sure indication of a cult.
