There are TWO copies of this post. Apparently the author added paragraphs to make the other one more legible. Taht one has the article you are talking about. Check the authors posting log, if you have trouble finding the other version.

it has been awhile since i've posted anything, but i got this e-mail from someone who is on the edge of falling out of the borg due to mental stress.
i've attempted to verify the information, even called the united nations, but haven't gotten to a person who can say if this meeting happened.
my gut says this is a contrived experience with many details just not adding up...but you never know.

i've heard mentioned in a couple of places the admonition from the society about how the new void left by the discontinuing of the book study night should be filled with spiritual study or family worship instead of tv or just viewing it as a "night off".. this is the new spin on the society dropping that meeting night; "just because we gave you a night off from meetings doesn't mean you get to relax.
you should use this time for family study.
if you don't, then you invite satan into your home through your tv set or dvd player or cd player or internet connection.
They can tighten up the meetings and pack more congregations using a Kingdom Hall by eliminating a meeting night. They could easily have three and four congregations to a building instead of one or two. It used it be a hassle to have three but now it can be expanded. The only problem is trying to have four Sunday meetings on one day. But they've tightened that meeting up as well. The talks are shorter, the WT study is slimmed down. Get 'em in, get 'em out.
Undercover, you have hit the nail on the head. Watch for reshuffling of schedules for the other weekday night meeting. If that happens in numerous places, you have your proof!!!
I think you are right about the fellowship; that is the more insidious implication of the "great experiment".
As such "great experiments" go, remember the "rotating eLDER arrangement"? I vaguely remember it, but I was on the fast track to fading then.
All of the thoughts here are discussing various money-grubbing, risk management types of schemes. Whichever one wins just points to one thing: desperation from Brooklyn.
You have inspired me to post regarding BS nite, also. :)

you can attend night school on that night.
with only one weekday night time meeting, you can almost make a regular schedule of that much needed schooling.
one day time class or some possible weekend class could make a full rounded schedule of it.
Yes!!! You can attend night school on that night. With only one weekday night time meeting, you can almost make a regular schedule of that much needed schooling.
One day time class or some possible weekend class could make a full rounded schedule of it. This could shave semesters or even years off your school plans.
Thank Brooklyn for this thoughtful and loving provision!!!

The new book study arrangement...what it could mean

how many elders and ms are in this forum?
let's have a survey.
an elder here..
'proto'-MS (they didn't have the MS arrangement back then).
From my profile. I haven't been to a meeting in over 30 years
Everybody on this thread needs OBEDIENCE SCHOOL: keep up the GOOD WORK

most of us know having been out of the witnesses that one of the dastardly techniques they use in controlling members is to keep them so busy engaged in other activities that there is absolutely no time to pursue normal family interests or hobbies.
one of the lurking witness friends on the board sent me some quotes from a recent book study.
look at these quotes and see how controlling the watchtower society is becoming.
This isn't new, because I haven't been to a meeting for over 30 years:
My non-JW cousins would always talk about "Uncle Bob"; I wasn't even sure who they were talking about, so I played along and "winged it". Then after a while, I asked my brother. He related that our father had been such a rabid JW zealot that "Uncle Bob" threw him out of his house. That was before I could form any memories of him. When my brother described "Uncle Bob", I discovered that he was the type of person that I wish I had known. This was after "Uncle Bob" had passed away.
I think of Jesus when he describes the gospel as dividing families. JW's take this as prophetic; but they go one step further and make it the self-fulfilling prophecy. Effectively, they have the gall to view it as a command!!!
Rather, I feel that Jesus was voicing this as a lament, not even a prophecy. I believe he felt saddened for the inevitable divisions that could happen.

so paragraph 11-13 yesterday discussed how lepers in jesus' day were outcasts.
they were required to call out "leper, leper" so people would stay away from them.
the next paragraph says that according to rabbinical sources, a religious leader even threw rocks at a leper to keep him away.
seems to me that the rank and file are prepared only to hear someone regurgitate; other than that, some radar goes off whereby their brain shuts down and the judging of that person as being 'unspiritual' starts...it is only now, now that I am out of the 'cancer' that I can truly see just how brainwashed the whole bunch is - totally shut off from reality!
They are not unlike the R&F of any other Church, then, are they?
So, they might as well have what all the other Churches have: A LAITY CLASS!!!
Having a Laity Class would be the best thing that could happen to JW's.

I saw a documentary about leprosy on NatGeo and I was surprised to find that families were living together, with some family members not ever contracting the disease. The docs could see them and touch them and not get it.
I read this 30 years ago in the medical manuals; in fact, doctors have had trouble doing leprosy research because it doesn't behave as expected. They have trouble culturing it and reproducing experiments using leprosy. Thus, development of treatments have lagged behind other supposedly comparable diseases.
The level of its contagion is greatly exaggerated. Of all the ancient diseases, it is paradoxically the most difficult to deal with, but is relatively low in danger to others.
However, to counteract this knowledge of the actuality of Hansen's disease is the possibility that the leprosy of the Bible was a group of common diseaess similar in symptoms, but varying in contagion. That question remains unanswered and practically unaddressed.

were you intolerant of anyone not a witness?
was your whole life consumed by "the truth"?
Were you intolerant of anyone not a Witness? Was your whole life consumed by "the Truth"?
Not that way: a good world, nothing to do with the quote.
I had my books, school work and I studied science and things technical. And I had a job before the time I was a teen; it would become my career and propel me elsewhere later in life.
I won't describe the job, details of which would be telling of my background and identity. But it was a place where I could go and leave JW's behind. If the JW world got too pressing, too closing in, this was an escape that nobody else could touch. And I wasn't violating any of the myriad taboo's.
It's what everybody needs(ed): a way to "shine 'em on".

so tonight the congregation discussed the front page of the october km -the new meeting schedule.
straight away it was emphasized it was not because of high gas prices that the meetings were being reduced.
it was pointed out that in parts of the world the brothers do not have cars so it was not high gas prices.
All these theories on why they cancelled the bookstudy aren't true.
The real reason they cancelled the bookstudy was to put and end to goody night.
But wait... what would you pay....
There is no need to stop goody nite: now it can be held informally as ...GOODY NIGHT...
Cakes and cookies galore...
Just don't invite:
Satanic gluttony goes on at them goody nights !!! Let the obesity crackdown begin!

the past 15 years or so have seen incredible "advances" in the new light agenda of the wts.. there have been changes in the generation (twice!
), sheep and goats, celestial phenomena, opening up the way to heaven (closed since 1935), the "composite sign", "blood fractions", along with major organizational changes, such as paperbacks, once monthly awake!
's, cult edition of the wt, along with the reduction of the meeting nights and change to the po nomenclature becoming the coboe (ssdd).... some of these changes have been foreseen by posters here on jwd, or were suggested by information in apostates recomended reading lists (i.e.
I believe that disfellowshipping will become virtually nonexistent. They won't want the legal responsibility for kicking members out. They will expand the Disassociation and make the same announcement. If asked, "Well, they left us. We never kicked them out."
I've been reading the old court cases of WTS: DF'ing has made it to Federal Court and WTS has not one, but two avenues of defense. The second one even covers someone who is disgruntled from DA'ing.
While Legal is likely uncomfortable with DF'ing, they are safe. So there is not a need to push for such reversal. If Legal took over completely, maybe... otherwise, I don't see this happening.
