question regarding humans only using a small percentage of the brain
by Matsimus inhello, i want to discuss with my mother about jws saying we only use a small percentage, and that we will use the entire brain when we become perfect in the paradise.
if someone could provide me with som references or quotes about this from the literature, i would really appreciate it.
thanks in advance :).

my college books say that it is a myth:
One of the most popular myths in psychology is that we use only 10 percent of our brain. This myth might have begun with early research showing that approximately three-fourths of the cortex is “uncommitted” (with no precise, specific function responsive to electrical brain stimulation). These areas are not dormant, however. They are clearly involved in interpreting, integrating, and acting on information processed by other parts of the brain. They are called association areas because they associate, or connect, various areas and functions of the brain. The association areas in the frontal lobe, for example, help in decision making and planning. Similarly, the association area right in front of the motor cortex is involved in the planning of voluntary movement. (Carpenter 54-55)

I read about 40% of this; the guy seems to have a very lucid perspective, and after reading what i did, i think i felt more ashamed then ever before to have called myself a jw at one time. the description about the inside being like a funeral parlor (paraphrasing) really hit me. before i stopped going to meetings, this is exactly how i felt going in that hall. there were so many disturbed individuals in that kh....and yet so determined not to be the one to fall away (as the gossip which ensues subsequent to a fader is wicked beyond belief)...and they are all so determined not to be that person of great mockery....yet they are all miserable out of their minds.....i wonder to myself what the next step is for them. i am so happy to be out of there, regardless of what my own fate may be, at least it will be *my own* fate.

Where do we go when we die?
by cptkirk inwhat would happen if we did not have religion to give some at least inference to (at the very least) our subconscious, that there is some type of afterlife?
what would we tell kids when they ask us what happens when we die?
what would we tell kids after these shooting massacres?

LSD will also provide similar experiences. I realize what you're saying because their heart stopped beating for a period of time. I would wager that also in some instances drug addicts experience the same thing. Can you reason that out? does it make sense that a person is going to heaven or hell before they are even permanently dead? like, oh hey god whats up? oh ok back to earth , later.

They are not the most powerful nation on earth, we are. Let me be clear too, when I say nazi, I do not necessarily mean national socialism, i mean a social structure that absolutely dominates those outside of their ilk (dominate as in death or slavery). If you knew anything about the way the world works, you would know that was not a strange comment. I'll sit here all day speaking and in the meantime invite folks from a web board that actually knows wtf they are talking about here to really pile on.

the 80% generally do not use critical thinking with regard to religion, nor are they the people calling the shots. so, the stage is set for a very clear end game.

and why do most of them believe this? because it is programmed in the ethos. not because they are some avid spiritualists or some shit. ie. take it out of the ethos and you have a very different chemistry to society, very different. i was amazed to learn how many people (all walks of life) believe they are going to heaven when they were pressed on the matter.

you all need to read the type print and not just the title, i don't gaf where we go i'm a grown man, the point is, all of us were kids at one time, how would you feel when tragedies happened (maybe you didn't see any tragedies as a kid) and you had nothing to believe in? how does the developing mind cope? given a new generation of people, developing from birth, with nothing to believe in, what does that look like.....does it become some sort of nazi-esque society where the ones who can't accept death etc just fall by the wayside and the strong go forward. you may not realize how many people actually believe in god and believe they are going to an afterlife, not sure if this is breaking news but it is over 80% of the entire american population.
