CERNE LAB IN Switzerland -- Major News
by Band on the Run inthe new york times and every news shows was reporting that the particle collider in switzerland ran a test that could divulge the god factor in the fabric of the universe.
there is an official name for it that sounds like two last names combined.
particle physics is not my strong suit.. the journalists voices sounded very excited.

Give us your vote on the Watch Tower's approach to domestic abuse!!
by cedars inas you may be aware, the feb 15th watchtower features an experience depicting a 'fairytale' scenario of a violent husband beating his wife, and then mending his ways once she starts to apply bible principles.
to my knowledge, this is the nineteenth experience of its kind to be published since 1958, and it betrays a disturbing track record of negligence on the part of the watch tower society in failing to properly and consistently deal with such a sensitive and life-or-death issue, which effects untold thousands of women.. the experience, page 29, paragraph 12, reads as follows:.
selma recalls a lesson she learned from the witness who studied with her.

Victoria, Australia: Brief Update - Steven Unthank is still Acting Prosecutor, etc.
by AndersonsInfo incourt hearing results for december 6, 2011:.
steven unthank is still the acting prosecutor (and that's why he could not comment on the case on the"dialogue" program), and all 5 cases are still before the courts.
the crown informed the court that the office of public prosecutions are "acting as a facilitator at the moment"; and that the police investigation is "quite well progressed"; and that the police are awaiting response from the department of justice.. .

no Aussie, I don't think unthank led the police to raid a KH. But I do think it is going too far when the police go into a meeting to interview elders. I have faith in the Austrialian Justice system and in Australian police not to do such a thing of their own volition - so I am left wondering if it it Mr Unthank who has pushed for this to happen as this is the lesser of the two evils.
this is not to suggest that the WTS have not been evil regarding their child abuse policies but it is to question the wisdom of interviewing elders whilst a meeting is in progress. plus witnesses co-operating with the police at the meeting sounds staged.

Steven unthank has made himself very clear about his feelings towards the police, towards the previous government and towards jehovahs witnesses and this event - the police going into a KH to interview elders has Steven Unthank written all over it. He appears to be forcing the hand of the police and the court system to drum up support for his view that jehovahs witnesses are violating laws regarding child protection. The fact that the police had to enter a KH to interview elders during a meeting suggests that he does not have a strong case and is grasping at such last ditch efforts to make the law apply to Jehovahs witnesses.
Perhaps it is just me but this is sounding farcical and i fear Jehovahs wintesses are going to come out of this looking whiter than white.

What are the best Bible Translations?
by Londo111 ingrowing up in a jw family, my parents and my grandparents had many versions of the bible...not just the new world translation.
sometimes i read these.
but i always bought the hype that the new world translation was the most unbiased and most consistent in rendering hebrew and greek into the modern language.

psac, those books are outside of my pocket range at the moment. They look good mind you.
I'm trying to access all things British at the moment and it is from this POV that I am accessing the KJV and the NKJV. The biases and traditions associated with these particular translations are part of its attraction and it is the best at this moment in time for me. I was taking a little look at the debates but don't have the time to research them right now but most of them seem to centre around catholicim v anglicanism.
bioflex I agree that it is challenging. what I find particularly intersting is that part of the challenge is that Jehovahs witnesses have shaped some of their doctrines in opposition to what the KJV and Anglicanism promote.

psace the little I've read of the kjv shows that it tries to be as close as possible to the original. But it does sound quite dry. so far i haven't come across any errors/ommissions. What are the biggest ones?

yes Heaven, I agree we are all part of this revolution - but revolutionaries come in many different shapes and sizes. I tend toward a Condorcet type rather than a Robespierre type. I'm not sure what Cedars postion is - but for the moment I won't be putting my weight behind him as he wants me to stop posting on his thread because this is such a sensitve issue and I am apparently trying to minimise it - now where have I heard that before? (elders telling women to shut up even when the issues concern them)

cedars it is your logic that is baffling as you are drawing implications that I have not indicated, you appear to be sabotaging yourself without any help from me - please go back and read my replies.
I am particularly concerned with your views on this topic as you appear to have a contact in the media and if there is a possibilty that the newspapers may be interested in this story I am keen to minimise hysteria (but not the facts of course) as far as possible as my own family have received threats of violence from a pro xjw apologist in my area.

cedars I'm not pm-ing you as I do not wish to have any private dialogue with you but I would be glad if you would take on board what I have said together with the response from the charity in your OP - this response and what they say about domestic abuse in general is important for addressing the issue of the WTS' stance on domestic violence.
