  several have made outright statements and others have suggested that the society's negative position on higher education has changed.

  'the society does not discourage higher education where i live.

  ' worse, 'apostates have made it all up--the society has never discouraged education.

  I agree that pioneering, Bethel, etc. are still encouraged above attending college but I do feel that things are not as strict as they were. Maybe different congregations have a different attitude on the subject. In the congregation I attend there are a couple of elders whose children attend college full-time. There are also two young brothers attending college and serving as Ministerial Servants. I see more of the attitude that you go to college first then pursue pioneering,etc. reflected in this KH. When I was younger this was a no-no.

  Maximus,
  I still beg to differ. I do feel that the Society has bent a little on the higher education thing. Notice the WT Nov 1, 1992 it says"The general trend in many lands is that the level of schooling required to earn decent wages is now higher than it was a few years ago...It is difficult to find jobs with decent wages after completing simply the minimum schooling required by law...No hard-and-fast rules should be made either for or against extra education."
  That is a different tune than when I graduated high school.

  I remember when I was still in high school (back in 1986). We were attending a small congregation. There was an elder who allowed his son to attend college. There was alot of bad talk about this elder and soon after he was deleted.
  I too agree that the reason why the Society has kind of let up on this is because there is a whole generation of uneducated who scrub toilets for a living barely scraping by themselves and they don't have much to donate if any. And who will they have to fight their legal battles for free, the brother who is a janitor?
  I get kind of jealous when I see younger brothers and sisters going to college when we were highly discouraged to attend. I guess I can take some courses when my kids get a little older.

  By the way, in looking back at some of my posts I see alot of me's, my's and I's in them. I have been talking way too much about myself(woops I did it again) Did I say I again? I just can't stop myself!

  I have come to many conclusions in my studying. It doesn't take long once you open your mind and use your own brain. (That's called independent thinking I guess)oops
  What bothers me the most is that the Society has wormed their way out of the whole 1975 thing and put it off that the R&F just got too excited and started setting dates. That's what I heard my whole life until I actually looked in the older publications and saw the date in print. I remember too when we were studying the Babylon the Great has Fallen book I distinctly remember us calculating the date during the meeting and the point from the book was brought out that that generation would have to be old enough to know what was occurring(so that made the end seem even closer) Then that thinking was changed again later....and again.....
  It seemed like we needed to take a calculator along with us to all the meetings.
  I could never get it enough to ever comment on it, you know, when we would have WT studies on "this generation" and the paragraph that was devoted to times times and half a time???? I made sure my hand did not even move on that paragraph for fear of being called on.

  I have talked to my husband alot but he feels like it is the closest religion to the truth. He just tells me to keep on studying. I'm kind of in limbo right now not knowing what to do. I have enlightened him on alot of things though.
  I was a 1970 baby, my mother always told me that she thought that I would never go to school at all in this system and here I am with kids of my own going to school. I'm not upset the end hasn't come, (I'll wait on God) just that a whole lot of people have been deceived-me right along with them.

  Jeremy, I live in the USA. Been to Canada though-Niagra was beautiful. We plan to go back this year.

  outnfree, here is the text for Dec 25, 1907. The book was published by WTBTS but the compiler was G.W. Seibert (?)

  Luke 2:10,11 - Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

  And the comments are as follows "Although we cannot agree that this is the proper day for celebrating the birth of our dear Redeemer, but must insist that it was about October first (M. Dawn Vol.2, p.54), nevertheless, since he did not intimate his desire that we should celebrate his birthday, it is quite immaterial upon what day that event, of so great importance to us all, is celebrated. Upon this day, so generally celebrated, we may properly enough join with all whose hearts are in the attitude of love and appreciation toward God and toward the Saviour. The habit of giving little remembrances one to another at this time of year seems to us specially appropriate. God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. He is continually giving and we are continually receving from him; but amongst all his gifts the one of greatest importance to us is the gift of his Son to be our Redeemer."

  Hi Safe4Kids, you're right I do have kids and Powerpuff Girls is one of their favorite cartoons. The name kind of stuck in my head.

  Thanks for all of the welcomes everyone. I do have alot of questions that maybe you could all give your input on-I would appreciate it.
  Amazing, I took a quick inventory and I am quite proud of my collection of WT books to name some: Deliverance, several maybe all of the Studies in the Scriptures, Finished Mystery
  Books by Rutherford: Riches, Light, Preparation, Vindication, Salvation, Children, Prophecy, Jehovah, Government, Reconciliation
  Also lots of old booklets, older WT and Awake mags
  But the book I am most proud of is my one copy of Daily Manna and Birthday Record copyright 1907-in it the WTBTS printed on February 16 "Praise ye the Lord!" Charles T. Russell (looks like)1852 Allegheny
  I guess the book is an older version of the daily text but you could keep track of all of your friends and family's birthdays in it. If anyone is interested it also has an interesting text for December 25.

  I use the books quite often especially when I first began visiting these informative sites and forums. I could almost not believe some of the things I was reading on these sites until I saw the words for myself in the publications being cited. It was eye-opening (brain opening)

  Bibleexaminer, Oh and by the way I've never had Christmas fruitcake. Am I missing out? From what I've heard its not all that great. I guess I could try it for myself as long as I don't have it on Christmas day.
