Aaaah, Sweet Gossip
by mindfield ingossip is nothing new... we hear it everywhere, at work, with friends, even on this message board.
it's nothing special, and it will stay with humanity for a long, long time, if not forever.. however, if one claims to be in god's only organization on earth, part of god's plan for a *paradise earth*, then one must therefore be free of such *petty* things as gossip.
at least that's what the gb says, right?.

Nevertheless, the same gossip is a major part in our cong. here in Canada... I've got a few examples in mind... how about a discussion that I overheard with my sister and dad, talking about an excommunicated guy? I think the grounds was something to do with sex. What does it matter anyway, right? So here they were, chatting away about that guy, when a few phrases like "He's really immature" and "I hope he learns his lesson" were heard. Really upbuilding christian talk. So, not wanting to be left out, I slipped "Now that's Christian love." To which my sis. spat back "It's none of your business." Ah yes, sweet christian love. Makes me want to jump back in the fold.
Here's another example... our family was invited to another "brother's" home for supper. Now all of us has so, so many times heard the repetitive talk about the importance of hospitality and how to make it as upbuilding as possible. At least I have... so what was the main discussion topic? You guess. It was talking about another brother's psychological problems. Oh yeah, real upbuilding. Mostly it was about his problems taking properly care of himself, etc. etc. etc. Anyways, that was the topic. Did any of them ever talk about HOW they could HELP? No. Forget the few positive points they mentioned about the elder brother. I'm not saying they were wrong. But was that really the place? The time? Or even, was the topic totally wrongful? We all left the brother's home with a kind of superiority... we all do after dissing someone for half an hour or more, don't we?
So what is my family doing to encourage me to get back to the hall? Back into the preaching work? NOTHING. nada, zero, zip. In fact, they're further convincing me that JW's have nothing to do with the kind of love Jesus encouraged. I don't hate my parents, far from it. I just don't think they live up to the high standards they promote.
*thanx for listening!*

Elder School Summation
by messenger infriday.
well sad to say it was not revelations of sweeping reform or "new light" on caring for the flock.
the first day was primarily rehash of old stuff.

Congrats on a real nice job, messenger! I guess I now know some stuff even without going to the "Kingdumb Hall"! All by the grace of divine intervention... I feel sooo special.
"Conductor" to "Overseer" ... LOL. I wonder how that will translate in French... it'll probably sound even worse! Oh well...

Christendom will NEVER hit the mark!
by Yadirf inhere's a representation of how many times that christendom has hit the bullseye with regards to knowing what the bible teaches.
she teaches that man has an immortal soul; that heaven is the only destiny of the "saved" (no paradise earth then); that jesus and his father are co-eternal/equal (that jesus had no beginning); they say that what jacob and his mother did was bad; political envolvement (part of the world); loves pagan holidays; thinks that god produced the star of bethlehem;thinks that the commission to preach only applies to the clergy and not to the laity; etc., etc., etc.. .
christendom considers herself to be christ's representatives.

Hey, Friday... the term "moron" is not appropriate in this particular situation. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, moron is "a mentally retarded person who has a potential mental age of between 8 and 12 years and is capable of doing routine work under supervision". Sadly, this is not my case, Friday. Hey, I just did the dishes minutes ago, and no one was around! Weee! I'm not a moron, I'm not a moron!
So what would be the appropriate term then? Well, you could shell out another exaggerated commonly used word such as "stupid" and "brickhead" and the like. Or maybe you could just see that the term "asshole" was perfectly well used, and had a touch of irony as well. Time and time again you came back to joelbear's "wanton need to have a male sex organ up his buttocks." To say the least... I think the term asshole properly coins that accusation, don't you?
Now for the sentence-by-sentence, word-by-word ripping apart... I hope I didn't write a typo or something, 'cause I'll have a huge problem, won't I?[8>]

Canadian Chaperons
by Skeptic ini am amazed at some of the things that jws in the states worry about that canuck jws do not worry about.
chaperones are one area.. i remember reading in the mags that dating couples should have chaperones but have never heard of it being practiced, except in the u.s.. in canada, we figure if you are strong enough in the truth, you don't need a chaperone.
does some hanky-panky happen from time to time?
-
mindfield
Don't worry, the chaperoning practice is alive and well, at least in our cong. in quebec, canada...
I was personnally the chaperone of my sis and boyfriend... i didn't do a good job at it, though, since when i did chaperone, they settled me in a room with a computer, closed the door, let me play unreal tournament or other, and who knows what they were doing??? I didn't care...
Oh well...

The end is nigh?

bin laden orders own execution.
afp - suspected terrorist mastermind osama bin laden, hunted by us forces and running out of sanctuaries following the collapse of the taliban regime, has reportedly ordered his own execution if his capture appears imminent.. "bin laden has informed a number of people close and dedicated to him that he was living his last weeks or days," the riyadh-based al-watan newspaper said, quoting unnamed us and european diplomats in paris.. "so bin laden has instructed those aides who remain with him until the end to shoot him if he is surrounded by us special forces or the northern alliance, and there is no escape," the arabic daily said, adding that he had "even asked one of his sons to shoot him".. the taliban said it had lost contact with bin laden during its dramatic withdrawal from the north over the past two weeks, and claimed there was no sign of him in the "three or four" provinces under its control.. "we have no idea of where he is because you see our areas are limited to three or four provinces, so we no longer know where he is," spokesman syed tayyab agha told reporters in the southern border town of spin boldak.. "there is no relation now.

Good for him! The fall of the Taliban is apparently a great relief for many women who were treated like ....*crap*. Disgusting...
Now that they can listen to music, play outside, not have to fear getting killed because of a little detail, well, i think it'll be a little, if not a lot better.
