Theistic Evolution

thoughtful christians including scientists like francis collins and kenneth miller accept the evidence for evolution unconditionally.

the only thing that distinguishes their understanding of life from the views of dawkins is that they believe god planned and started the process intentionally.. just a word about the subtle but vital distinction between "theistic evolution" and "intelligent design".... over-simplifications alert - intelligent design is creationism in disguise.

it is a modern twist on the "paley's watch" argument.

Perhaps it would be better if we listened to binadub describe his beliefs, as opposed to the terms he's using.

By definition ID is nothing more than belief that the unknown original cause of creation was by a supreme intelligent agent. I happen to believe that. I do not believe in "creationism" as it is defined.

Ok binadub, you do not believe in Creationism. Rather, you seem to believe in a deity that was the first cause that set into motion the universe. Apart from that, he has not/will not interfere with his creation, for lack of a better term.

Your belief is compatible with Deism, and it in no way interferes with science. There are still so many unknowns to be discovered.

have you noticed that the dubs have mentioned from time to time when you see some beautiful creations, then they say that jehovah is wonderful?

is there something wrong with their thinking?.

Truth be said, Jehovah would deprive me of every ounce of pleasure he could get away with. The pleasure that manages to get through, he expects copious praise for--which he isn't getting. What about all the many times Jehovah has stopped Satan and His Demons from getting the opposite sex into my life? Jehovah has used his angels to maneuver the environment to make it impossible and highly offensive for me to even try, and he is determined to see that my soul never sees anything different. - WTWizard

where you're an ex-jw or still a jw, if you live in miami, florida (broward/palm beach county is cool too), i want to hear your story.

i've already given mine, but i'll tell it again just for the purpose of this thread.. i was researching masturbation because of the fact that the wt makes it out to be such a bad thing despite admitting that it isn't even mentioned in the bible.

along with that, i was researching "porneia" in general, and then i discovered this site.

Listen, maybe the parasite that burrows into your eye had a wonderful purpose before the flood. The flood made Jehovah angry. Something about rainbows not existing as an inherent property of light before the flood. Armageddon will wipe away your tears with a radioactive shockwave, and there will be everlasting nuclear fallout. The dead will cry out no more, for they will be dead. (Rev. 21:3,4) Mosquitoes will drop human blood like it's hot, and gorge themselves on the sweet, sweet nectar of mangos. Or was that apples?

Sharks will sunbathe with octopuses, lions will be snacking on granola bars, and the mere young child will place their hand upon a couple of drum sticks, and with all the dexterity of a professional musician, make a sweet noise emanate from the fangs of a tamed wolf. Wait upon Jehovah, and see all this come to an earth near you.

Why we really SHOULD trust the Governing Body...

it seems that, in my haste to scrutinize the teachings of the governing body and see whether they are actually in line with bible teachings, i have overlooked one important factor which indicates that they really can be trusted as those "taking the lead" in god's organization..... ...apparently, their weekly meetings sometimes run past 5 o'clock!!

i would like to apologise for any undue criticism i may have levelled at the governing body on this forum or elsewhere.. if i had been aware of the above information, i would obviously have been far more willing to humbly accept their leadership.. .

We all have many, many, many, many MISCONCEPTIONS

most of what we think we know consists of wrong information that we allowed to come in to our head.. we weren't on guard.

we weren't thinking critically.

or, we trusted the source and simply accepted the wrong thing.. a great deal of our misconceptions come from genuine authorities like our parents:) who are crammed full of untrue ideas they learned from equally.

There are too many for me to say, Terry. I like that Nero's name was cleared, this is even promulgated by an early WT (methinks, here we go with those misconceptions again), that he set fire to Rome and blamed it on the Christians.

Help with Mathematical Concepts, Not Arithmetic

my math background is embarassing.

my public education was very sad.

although i received good grades in college track math courses, i never understood the underlying ideas or motivations.

I love applied mathematics, such as in physics. It is a language that describes the everyday effects we see.

Accounting math is boring, however. It's about balancing checkbooks and what not, but at least it is practical and useful for everyday life.

Every once in a while, I try to do mental math, but I'm just not that good at it. Give me a pen and paper, and I can figure out most any equation (with logic; that's more my strong suit).
