Although the structure was in place under Rutherford, he was pretty much a dictator. Although he was a charasmic leader to his flock, their growth was not exceptional under his iron fisted reign. His successor Nathon H. Knorr opeated more like modern day corporate executive. He instiuted the training progams at the hall, the sales quotas, etc. It was under his management that the JWs saw rapid growth. The GB became more of a factor under his administration.
when you look at the news headlines concerning the many out of control pestilences, i can't help but think of the scripture in revelation chapter 6 verse 8, what do you all think about this subject?
Hey spec,
In Jesus day the average life span was 35. By 1800 it had increased to 50. Now it is 75. When I read this, I conclude, spec, that you are in the wrong century. Maybe in 200 years you will be right. Malthus thought that it would be curtains for us by now, famine wise. He was wrong. By the way, do you know who he was?
People who don't read history tend to get trapped in an egocentric view of the world and have no perspective of the change in conditions over time. Of course, education is a dangerous thing now isn't it spec.
then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and everyone, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, "fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand before it?".
some of the kings of the earth and their supporters are aware of what the bible book of revelation says concerning the time of the end and their destruction for not having acknowledge jehovah's rulership and sovereignty, also they have failed to acknowledge jesus as king of kings and lord of lords in subject to the great king jehovah god.. the scriptures have put satan's system on notice but few take notice.
they prefer to live like the days of noah.
LDH,
Your words are truely inspirational. As it says in Hominomies 45:82. "In those days many will run amok going 'blah, blah, and more blah,'"
Say; ahem Flock!
people are stupid.
sometimes that is the only way to describe how certain things can happen.
especially is this so when panic, stress or hormones kick in which often serves only dilutes whatever common sense is left remaining.. a couple of examples:.
I read a true story about someone who mailed a pipe bomb that didn't work. They caught the wanna be bomber because he put his return address on the package. How's that for dumb.
Another true one: A woman locked herself out of her car and marveled at the "Slim Jim" tool the policeman used to get her car unlocked. She asked him if they made anything like that, that was small enough to fit in her purse. The poiciman answered, "Why yes mam, they do. It's called a key."

Thank you Thirdson and Lurker,
Very different but very interesting stories. For both of you in appears that the internet had a major impact on you. My wife and I faded away when we got married way back in 1962. It was very difficult then because there was no one out there to give us support. It wasn't until about 1985, that we found out about Ray Farnz's book, which was a wonderful help to us. We attended the first meeting where BCRI was formed and met Ray there. He is as kind in person as the words are in his book. Since then we have attended three other of the BRCI conferences. We always felt very peaceful after leaving them. Met some wonderful people there. Zazu and I just got on the internet about three months ago and are loving the interchange we have here.
Again, thanks for sharing.
i have made a couple of remarks regarding family dynamics on other threads, but i thought it's be nice to start a new thread.... i'm no psychologist, but suffice it to say i see some similarities here.
(please add to/comment on these thoughts).
the organization wishes to be seen as our mother.
Xandit,
I don't understand your "pass me another camel" remark. I don't smoke camels myself. They are too heavy to hoist into the air and they don't stay lit very well, probably because they retain water. I asked a women once if she smoked after sex. She said she didn't know because the lights were off.
last weekend i was enjoying a sarah mclachlan marathon, this weekend it was kenny wayne shepherd and any other blues/rock i could locate.. while indulging in the music that i love, i started thinking about the "gold old jw days", and i remembered listening to the rite of spring by stravinsky, as well as many other classical works when i was younger.. i was transported to a magical, mythical place, and i would frequently put together my own dance routines to accompany the music (since i wasn't allowed to go to dance class).
then came the "warnings" from brooklyn about the pagan themes surrounding many classical works.
the rite of spring was specifically mentioned as one that could turn the good jw into a foaming, demon-inhabited monster.. destroyers of dreams, creators of the mundane--how could i have allowed them to strip my life of all the beautiful things?
I like Handel's Water Music - very peaceful. Most people know Bethhoven's 5th symphoney the best. I like the 9th more - very majestic. I also like Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Handel's Messiah at Christmas and Easter is wonderful, not just the Halelujah chorus, but the whole thing.

there are many things that could be changed, and even though i would never go back, i think there are some very basic changes they could make in their child rearing practices, simple changes that would make a big difference in their society.. 1. don't force small children to sit for two hours in a chair.. this was discussed at length on the thread about slapping children at the kingdom hall.. 2. don't bring children to meetings where the subject has to do with adult sexual practices.. 3. don't tell teenagers that they can't ask someone out for a date unless marriage is on their mind.. 4. don't tell them that they are not special, that they have to humble themselves and be like everyone else.. 5. don't tell them they have to get good grades through high school as a reflection of what jehovah has given them and then tell them they can't go to college when they graduate from high school at the top of their class.. 6. don't tell your wordly neighbors that you give your children presents all through the year, but not on their birthday, when they have never seen a special gift wrapped present in their life.. 7. don't expect a shy child to enjoy going from door to door and don't expect an extroverted, lively child to sit still at meetings.. 8. don't tell an inquiring child not to ask questions and don't tell them not to read interesting books.. 9. don't surprised if you don't change your ways that your children will leave you, even though they love you.
My dear friends,
I had to get this off my chest. The way the poor children are treated is simply awful. Everything they do lowers a child's feeling of uniqueness and importance. My own children never went through that, and although they could have done more than I had hoped, they are still warm, loving, good human beings, with no "inculcation" no week after week of programing, they grew up like flowers in a garden, and I am happy to know them as my children and as my friends. Thank God for minor miracles.

1. Don't force small children to sit for two hours in a chair.
This was discussed at length on the thread about slapping children at the Kingdom Hall.
2. Don't bring children to meetings where the subject has to do with adult sexual practices.
3. Don't tell teenagers that they can't ask someone out for a date unless marriage is on their mind.
4. Don't tell them that they are not special, that they have to humble themselves and be like everyone else.
5. Don't tell them they have to get good grades through high school as a reflection of what Jehovah has given them and then tell them they can't go to college when they graduate from high school at the top of their class.
6. Don't tell your wordly neighbors that you give your children presents all through the year, but not on their birthday, when they have never seen a special gift wrapped present in their life.
7. Don't expect a shy child to enjoy going from door to door and don't expect an extroverted, lively child to sit still at meetings.
