JWs pronounce the popular version of Gods name
by Alfred ingrowing up jw, the elders in my congo never wasted an opportunity to remind the youth in my congo that we should always endeavor to do what is correct in gods eyes, not what the world considers to be popular.
this would cover just about every subject (clothing, music, sports, entertainment, etc.)..
however, when it comes to the one thing that should probably matter the most to all jay dubs (correctly pronouncing gods name), popularity takes precedence over correctness.

Take a clipboard out to the sidewalk and ask people this one simple question:
"Can you tell me who Jehovah is?"
If more than 1 in 4 say that it is God's name I would be SHOCKED. It's probably less than 1 in 10.
Even fewer would know who YHWH is.
I'm not arguing that USE of the name is CORRECT. I'm just arguing that if you are going to call God by the accepted cultural name, like it or not, Jehovah is still it. People just don't use the name "Yaweh."

PSacramento,
Do you have a scholarly reference to prove that Jehovah is a combination of YHWH and Adonai?
I was always of the understanding that vowels were not used by the Hebrews in written form and that Jehovah's Witnesses accepted this pronunciation because of its dominant use by other Judeo/Christian groups throughout history.
It is in the dicitonary after all, as the Hebrew name for God. I highly doubt that Jehovah's Witnesses had anything to do with that. Meriam Webster usually has their shit together.

People don't seem to have a problem pronouncing Jesus' name "JESUS". Yeshua would be more correct.
It annoys me that people take up such an issue with use of the name "Jehovah," as a mispronunciation. It is the accepted pronunciation of the name in Western Culture. If you go to Canada, you'll hear people pronounce it "JEEhovah," and in Boston, "Jehover." The point is, that people know who you are referring to, and the pronunciation "Jehovah" isn't being used in a spirit of disrespect.
Griping about the pronunciation of "Jehovah" rather than using the "more correct, YAHWEH" is just making a mountain out of a mole hill. It makes apostates seem like hair-splitters instead of a group of people who actually have some ligitimate arguments to make against Jehovah's Witnesses doctrinal beliefs.
....lest we forget to have some balance in our viewpoints....

Disassociation Letter
by dontplaceliterature inhave any of you who formally diassociated yourself from jehovah's witness by letter sent anything in writing to the entire congregation?
would it be considered bad form to send a letter to friends in the congregation regarding your decision and the reasons for it, before/after/simultaneously you send a letter to the boe?.
i think i would feel compelled to, out of acknowledgement that most of them would not speak to me after "the big announcement.

I am pretty far off from a decision to disassociate. This topic just crossed my mind after reading leavingwt's DA Letter yesterday.
I'm not sure that I will even want to talk to the majority of the Jehovah's Witnesses I know after I am no longer one of them, outside of my immediate family and maybe two or three other people.
The only reason I would send the letter ahead of my letter to the BoE, would just be for the sake of personal peace of mind, in a hope that at least someone will have read it before "The Announcement" and would recognize that I was leaving willfully, and not being forced out. I fully realize that I will be recognized as a dirty Apostate from that point forward, and have no dillusions about disassociating myself and somehow remaining friends with anyone in my congregation.
It would be nice for my friends to at least have the option to know what went down before they are forced into avoiding me at all costs.

Thoughts?

A Lurker taking a step out of the shadows
by AlmightyDog ini have been lurking on this site and others for a couple of years now, and i feel it is time to step out and say "hello!

Crisis of Conscience is a revelation, but I don't think it will answer any questions. It will however, confirm for you just how impossible it is for The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society to be Jehovah's earthly organization.
It's a real mind bender for anyone who has never looked into the history of the organization before.
I read it the week I joined this forum. There were times when I wanted to throw the book accross the room in disbelief. It is definitely a real eye-opener and a MUST READ.
