  I simply cannot find any evidence that anything related to consciousness and thought will exist once I have taken my last breath. I simply must believe and accept that finality. I will not jump through the absurd hoops of an invisible sky daddy who is promising me something that He himself cannot prove exists. Hell, he cannot even prove that He himself exists. Lunacy.

  Lunacy is a good word - I know i am one - a lunatic and would be happy to join a long line of lunatics who have graced the earth.

  But in discussion with your post above, my thought is that we are not born in a vacuum, we don't live in a vacuum and therefore I don't consider that we die in a vacuum. Here I am taking nothingess to mean a vacuum- I apologise if this is not what you meant.

  thank you all for your replies.

  botzwanna I'm glad you are having a good time now. Thoughtful point about the witness paradise being like slavery. But in my own case I did not look that far ahead. Having just returned from a brisk morning walk with my spouse I have managed to crystallise what it is that I love most of all. It is that feeling of being on the threshold of something momentous. JWs gave me this feeling in spades. it is what kept me going.

  amelia ashton - yes I too was very zealous about telling people not to blame God for the wickedness but to blame satan.

  Your secret hope of exploring other planets defintely resonates with me and for the same reason above - that of anticipating something momentous and huge.

  I mean, the WTBTS pretty much took away all other options by virtue of their teachings and doctrines that discredited the hopes and beliefs of all other religions. If there is no paradise on earth to look forward to, if there is no heavenly place waiting for me when I die, then what is there?

  I have come to see this as a literary, rhetorical device for carving out identity by painting everything other as rubbish and deathdealing. Hidden in the rubbish are the pearls waiting to be found one by one.

  But I think there is a paradox at the heart of Zen - I wonder if the nothing of Zen is actually multifaceted potential. Is this how you understand the nothing you speak of

  guys and gals keep it coming I want to hear more. And also does anyone agree with the feeling of anticipation of something momentous that JWs gave you? (I don't mind being made fun of either)

  the spritual food of jehovahs witnessess has changed a lot in the last couple of years particularly and this is reflected in the conversations on here. There is hardly any depth to the watchtower anymore. At the same time I think that people who become JWs are very often looking for meaning/spirituality and as much postivity as they can find. Those who are not finding it anymore at the meetings may come here to take a look and decide there is no truth, just angry people. A relative of mine describes it as that there is no heart left here. I think I understand what he means.

  anyone want to comment on the highly charged ..."undertones"?.

  A growing up as a JW man jailed for sex crimes in UK

  a man who committed monstrous sex crimes against two young girls when he was an isolated teenager growing up as a jehovahs witness in bradford has been jailed for two and a half years.. justin leleux, 27, sexually abused the children when he was aged 14 to 17, bradford crown court heard yesterday.. the older girl was about six and the younger child around three years old when he stripped naked to play secret games with them.

  leleux, now of kirkcaldy, fife, scotland, pleaded guilty to five offences of indecent assault and three of indecency with a child when he lived in the bradford area in the late 1990s.. married with two sons, he was arrested when the girls, now teenagers, told the police what he had done.. the girls said leleux got into the shower with them and sexually assaulted them in bed.. he told them not to tell their parents and shouted at them if they refused his perverted demands.. the court heard that one girl had since closed down about the abuse while the other was very emotional.. leleuxs barrister, charlotte holland, said he had pleaded guilty and made full admissions.. he had particular difficulties as a teenager and felt excluded and isolated growing up as a jehovahs witness.. miss holland added: this is not an excuse for his monstrous behaviour.. leleux had never been in any trouble since leaving home at 17. miss holland said: his abuse of the trust placed in him has had devastating consequences on the girls and their families.. he doesnt seek anyones pity, he feels disgust for his actions.. judge jonathan durham hall qc said leleux was now a civilised and successful man.. he had led a blameless life since committing the offences.. but he had systematically and repeatedly taken cruel advantage of two vulnerable young girls, leaving them mentally scarred for life.. the judge told leleux: you, i am sorry to say, must go to prison for these crimes.. there has to be a repayment by you and a lesson learned by others.. judge durham hall made a sexual offences prevention order banning leleux from any unsupervised contact with children, except for his own sons.. he must sign on with the police as a sex offender for seven years.. source: http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/8818146.man_is_jailed_for_abusing_two_girls/.

  how sad for the girls he abused and also for him growing up feeling so isolated. I get the feeling that he is no longer a JW. I feel sorry for his sons and his wife.

  One wonders if any of the elders in the congregation knew about what had happened. What would bethel have advised back then if the matter had come to their attention? Judging from their present position on the matter it is very likely that they would have ordered the elders to keep the matter quiet. If the young man remained a witness and if the abuse wasn't known, then bethel would prolly have advised that he be given privileges in the congregation if he was keen about reaching out. There is an acute shortage of men in this age group (20-40 years)

  I hope the girls get help for themselves. The prison sentence is some justice for them.

  I hope the young man can find something constructive to do while he is in prison - like maybe writing about what it was like to be so lonely and isolated. Of course we won't know how far this contributed to his perpetration of abuse on the children but such writngs may give JW parents and teenagers some insight into the problems of keeping their children away from productive outlets.
