  i have been sad to see so many groups and individuals say that the cause of these events are the mental status of the shooters.

  i have looked over the backgrounds of these shooters, and few had medically identified mental health issues.

  it is too easy to think that people shoot or kill other people because they are mentally ill.. actually, many or most people with real mental illnesses are most likely to be the victims of others.. i have been a volunteer with the organization called nami (national alliance of mental lillness) for 25 years now.

  I follow a YouTuber named Tim Pool. If you don’t know him, I think he’s worth following. Politically, he sits left of center. At least that is how he describes himself. To me, he is more classical liberal than modern liberal. Anyway, he was putting on an event in support of free speech recently, and he started to get some threats (#Antifa). A man showed up at his house @ 4AM, and then returned the next day as he was filming a video. The call to the police was captured live.

  Later, he said, the officers were very helpful, and very quick to come to his house. But Tim admits, due to the threats, the officers kindly suggested that he exercise his second amendment rights. Sometimes you can’t wait for the police to arrive.

  Problem is that there some Americans who have an acute infliction of social apathy.

  No Fink. Every policy I support, from free markets to gun ownership, is supported because it will have net positive effects on society.

  I understand you’re motivation comes from a similar source. However, I just think you are incorrect - a product of not thinking through the net effects, not seeing past the first layer of cause and effect. It’s the same here as it is in economics.

  They are more concerned for themselves and their love of guns which they think is going to perhaps protect them one day.

  Yeah... I wonder where they get THAT concern from? One peek at the Green New Deal, with *every* left Presidential candidate in support, and a majority of Democrats in Congress, and you wonder why some might be concerned about tyranny? Good forking lord, it is flat out socialism. If that was actually passed and signed into law, there would LITERALLY be no choice but to resist.

  Yea and cuz they are exactly like other rifles is exactly why they are the PREFERRED weapon for mass shooters and for, wait for it, crazy militia people, ...

  Not true. The preferred weapons of mass shooters are handguns, by far. As for “crazy militia people”, I doubt that’s true too.
  

  It's also why the military uses M15 (fully auto AR15s), just cuz they are like every other rifle.

  Ok, so the M-15 is actually made by Armalite. AR-15s are a Colt product. Colt bought the rights to the name “AR-15”. So when Armalite came out with their own, they labeled it M-15. It’s a generic term for the same weapon, buts it’s not automatic. Did you mean M-16?

  hey guys, i've been pimo going on full inactive for a very long time, 5+ years.

  pretty happy with the current situation.

  over the years, i've gotten lots of grief from the local elders and cos for my inactivity, attending wordly public events and social media posts.

  Just for people reading this thread, this is what I'm talking about .

  

  Ugg. I think we’ve been over this before. Is this an “assault rifle” because it has plastic in scary shapes? Or is there some other rational way you can define these types of weapons?

  AR-15s function in exactly the same way as other rifles, and they are no more powerful than other rifles of the same caliber.

  Best to wait for more details. Beto has already jumped the gun (no pun intended), and called for more gun control laws.

  It’s amazing that he can’t see past 5 minutes... at all the ways this can backfire. This was a traffic stop. The guy shot the trooper and then took off in an escape, shooting up multiple scenes on the way. It’s not very hard to imagine the guy was already a felon, possessing a firearm illegally. The call for more controls would then make him look foolish.

  But, hey... maybe it’s some guy hyped up on crystal meth.. who knows. Either way, this isn’t like a school shooting.
