Curious Onlooker
by joelbear inmy entire life i have felt like a stranger in a strange land.
that was true even of my involvement in the witnesses.
it is certainly true when i watch people slaughter each other over what, in the end, always comes to the same thing, territorial control.. the events of the past few days have pushed me a few steps further in that direction.. i can only become a curious onlooker to the events that unfold as the different segments of the world spar over the limited resources of the planet.. sad but fascinating as well.

Haves and have nots
by joelbear ini think it all comes down to the price you pay for having more materially than others.. i think, in the end, those people are pissed off because we live so much better in this country than they do in theirs.
it is to their leaders advantage to blame the u.s. for their bad lot in life.
if they didn't, the people would start examining the enormously rich ruling class of basically every middle eastern country who just allow their people to subsist or starve to death.. clever tactic using the opiate of the people and promises of paradise to get people to do the unthinkable.. it has always been thus.. hugs.

Reflections on The Day the Earth Stood Still
by joelbear ini too am numb and sick.
in my opinion the only hope for mankind is following matthew 7:12. as always, i interpet the scripture very broadly and include nonhuman life in the scope of the command.. the difference between me and the witnesses is that they believe that scripture has to be enforced under penalty of death, while i hope that mankind will adopt it on its own merits.
the day the earth stood still stands at the top of my list of movies, and indeed i think it is a movie that should be shown in theatres and classrooms around the world today.. can we learn to share the earth or will we, like the characters in the movie only be able to achieve peace by being policed by an entity outside of our own control and more powerful than ourselves?.

Interesting story from Anthropology Class
by joelbear inwe were discussing how race is not biological but is a cultural term used to suppress peoples based on presumed biological inferiorities.. one guy at the front of the class raised his hand and insisted that people of different races were fundamentally different, not just on the surface and that they came from different origins.. he then went on to say that he was a creationist.. i shouted out, "how many adam and eve's do you think god created?
" which the class thought was a funny but good point.. i thought it was interesting that this white male creationist had to make the point that he thought races were inherently different.. joel

Greastest wastes
by joelbear innot counting your personal regrets, what was the greatest waste of life and talent you ran across in the organization.. i have 2:.
1. a guy who was a brilliant grand master chess player who gave it up when he became a witness.. 2. a beautiful young lady that i dated (the last i dated) who gave up a scholarship to julliard school for music to study opera and who was working as a bank teller.. can people be prosecuted for murdering dreams?.
hugs.

Paradise
by joelbear inone thing i have always wondered is this.. in the new system everything will be shared by everybody right?.
how come witnesses don't share everything with each other now in order to prepare for this?.
how come rich witnesses don't help out poor witnesses so they can come to meetings?.

risk taking
by joelbear inwell, i'm getting closer and closer to turning my life upside down and breaking away from my 43 years of conservative living.
any risk experiences out there?.
the risk i want to take is leaving banking, living a much more bohemiam life, maybe work as a waiter or bartender or something, go to school, travel, work on my furniture art, write, read, live.. aaaack.

Our Goal - Help them LIVE LIFE
by joelbear inwhat should our goal be as individual exjw's who are still tied to the organization through family and friends.. our goal should not be to bring down the watchtower.
our goal should not be to get people to stop being jw's.
our goal should be to help people live a full life whether they remain a witness or not.. attack the dangerous ideas that keep people from living their life.. ideas like:.
