  Elders need to see things from Jehovah's perspective in a child molestation case

  while preaching this past saturday 3-16-13 the following conversation took place in my car with an elder from my cong, my wife, a retired sister and myself.. me: addressing my wife i asked her: do you know how is brother (moron) that crashed his car into a fire station while drunk?

  wife: don't know.

  last thing i heard was that he was in a critical condition.at this point the elder chimes in.. elder: poor guy!

  I am confused since it seems like there are two issues here. The elder's first question seemed to be about whether repentance should prevent DF'ing of a child molester. But then it seems like the real discussion was about what to do when there is arguably not enough proof of whether the abuse took place.

  It seems obvious that the answer to the second question should be to alert the authorities and let them do a real investigation and warn the accused not to be in the presence of any children in the meantime.

  Is this true? Do the elders really do it like this?

  i put this week's wt paragraph about disfellowshipping on my fb page and said how poor robert's family didn't even check to see whether he was dead or alive in 16 years and a friend of mine of the 'conscious class' commented about how unchristian she felt disfellowshipping to this degree is, and i agreed.. another friend, and uber-jw who has a host of illnesses and yet pioneers, who everytime she and her husband go to another congregation, if he's not appointed within three years they move to another and try for an appointment there - he used to be an elder and no one is willing to promote him again- replied to my thread.

  now keep in mind she has a dfd son and she doesn't even know whether he is dead or alive, because she follows the wt to the tee.

  Of course it can be one error and you're out. Or one doctrine you disagree with and you're out. If you're Catholic and disagree with the contraception ban, you can disregard it at your own risk (of eternal damnation, I suppose), but you don't have to choose between that and all of your friends and family. But if you disagree with the blood ban and accept a blood transfusion, or even tell others that it's okay to do so, you will be expelled. If they can establish that you took blood, they won't even hold a JC to see if you really want to leave. It's considered an automatic disassociation. Same with joining the military. A friend of mine from growing up kind of faded, but then joined the military, and he was DF'd (technically DA'd, but really what's the difference) without a judicial committee.

  Technically it was his choice to join the military, but the choice really was between blindly obeying every rule and doctrine or having your family and friends.

  Sad story... hopefully they will be okay. There are a lot of cases of pitbulls who have no violent history and then commit a vicious attack.

  so this morning we flirt and i tell her what a "dirty girl" she is for buying those books...but i was thinking this from a girl who broke a frying pan on my car years ago because i didnt want to go to the meetings.

  slowly i wore down that rock that she is with little facts and qoutes...i would not have stayed with her if she remained the fanatic witness she was....also she now swears like a sailor...i like that..

  My wife read all 3 of the Fifty Shades books, but she never read the Watchtower or Awake even when we were in. I read a couple of chapters and wasn't too impressed.

  I wouldn't be shocked if some "in" JWs even read it on the sneak. Especially now that you can read on your ipad or Kindle and don't have to buy a bound book. I mean, the ban on porn doesn't mean all the elders and bethelites weren't watching porn on their computers. Why wouldn't the sisters be reading lady porn on their tablets? lol

  You could always call their bluff now that they have met their granddaughter and started thinking about the possibility that she is going to be in their life. If you stop going now and give it a month or two maybe they won't want to shun their grandchild too. You could tell them something like you can't find any scriptural justification for people treating other people like pariahs in a house of worship and judicial committees and all of the other nonsense related to DF'ing. I mean, they couldn't openly associate with you and stay in, but maybe they would do it quietly. I don't know if that would be enough for you. If it doesn't work, you could always go back to trying to get reinstated in a couple of months.

  Legal resources for custody battle

  hey jwn.. i have some good friends that are trying to get custody of their wife's daughter from the kid's grandmother who is a jw.

  unfortunately she's loaded and they have little means to fight a custody battle.

  is there any legal resources that they can reach out to or any attorneys that work on the side of fighting against jws?.

  Have the parental rights been terminated? Has there already been a custody determination by a court in favor of the grandparent? Based on the information you provided, I suspect that the religion angle may not the best thing to focus on.

  If rights have not been terminated and this is an original proceeding, there is a presumption that it's in the best interest of child for the natural parent to have custody. The parent should only have to prove that she herself is fit, not that the grandparent is unfit because of her religion or any other reason.

  But in addition to what has been provided, if the religion card is going to be played and the attorney is not familiar with these types of cases, I suggest reading and/or have the parents' attorney read Dealing with Jehovah's Witness Custody Cases by Jerry Bergman. Summary is here. The attorney will have the credentials needed to obtain the full article. Or if you PM me an e-mail address, I can send it to you.

  If the child's grandmother has custody and the parents don't, it sounds like there might be some other piece of the puzzle other than religion at play?

  My decision about "family shunning"

  since i've been off work this week because of spring break, i've really been missing my grandma.

  when i have left wt (i'm fading and april will be 6 months) and i told her about january, she has been shunning me.

  i told myself "i will respect her wishes/decision..etc" this morning i woke up and said "to hell with shunning!

  Gojira - hacking into someone else's e-mail account is a felony, and I would absolutely report her and be insistent that it's investigated if she does it to you. I'm sure your grandmother wouldn't press charges, but you can. Many e-mail programs can tell you when the last time you signed in was (like for gmail, it's in the bottom right), so you can montior that if you think she might hack you. Also some programs let you ask for an alert if you are signed in from a computer other than the one you generally use (Facebook also has this option).

  People have actually been convicted of felonies for this. If it happens, contact local police as well as the FBI, since it's a federal crime. Here is one example of an indictment of someone for accessing a co-worker's email account.

  I don't think this forum is limited to those who are having serious difficulties. If things are going well with his family and he wants information that he thinks can help him keep it that way, I don't see the problem.

  I have a relative on my wife's side of the family who was baptized, pioneering, etc, then decided he didn't want to be a JW anymore, and moved away and moved in with a wordly girlfriend. The parents went out of their way to not tell the elders about his situation and where he was currently living, phone number, and so on because they didn't want him DF'd. After the smoke cleared in a few years they started associating with him again. He has never been Df'd and has been openly doing lots of things you could be DF'd for and it has been 20+ years. He has attended JW weddings and is basically treated like an unbelieving family member, so it does happen.
