Are you so faded that Actives no longer encourage but respect you?
by Wasanelder Once ini know it sounds strange but all the jw's i have contact with are no longer "encouraging" me to attend meetings.
in fact not one of them invited me to the memorial even though we had dinner together at my house three nights before.
i think i have them totally bamboozled with my reasoning why i don't attend.

Using funerals to recruit members
by keyser soze ini heard a somewhat amusing story from a co-worker over lunch.
he said he was at a funeral for a jw relative, and they had a registry for guests to sign.
his wife signed the registry, and included their home address.

Were you Stalked or Chased After Once you Exited the JW's by Elders ?
by flipper ini tried to fade off the map by moving 30 miles initially in 2004 after i exited in late 2003 .
the first several years they didn't bother me.
i ran into a elder from my former congregation in late 2005 in an antique store - he tried telling me i was wrong for stopping attending meetings.

I wasn't stalked, and I count myself lucky. The old congregation thought I was in the "new" congregation and the "new" congregation thought I was in the old congregation.
I'm not sure how that works with my files though. I think the old congregation got tired of waiting for the "new" congregation to ask for them to be sent over.
The files are usually such a lovely stalking tool, aren't they?

Since Leaving "The Truth" Are You Really Happier?
by minimus inwitnesses say that when people leave "the truth", they get involved in a debauched life, misery, and general unhappiness.. they give experiences of some that left the "sweet fellowship" of the "brotherhood" and the awful results because of it.
then, they come back and their lives change 100% for the better!.
have you found life to be miserable and unproductive since "leaving jehovah"?.

We take ourselves wherever we go in life, so if personality traits, bad luck, poor habits or circumstances would have led to unhappy segments of life within the org, they possibly will also do so outside of the org. And ditto with the happy segments.
The big difference is now is there's no additional pressure of the hamster wheel of meetings-guilt-field-service-judgment-dread-watching-your-back and consulting the publications/elders on what is expected, and allowed, all the time.
So now I make my own decisions, and have to really think about how I am responsible for my own happiness and that of those around me, right here, now, today, and also taking the REAL future into account. Not some bizarre cultish fantasy of God killing everyone else in order to create "happiness" for the small minority.

If you are living with a partner, is it a marriage?

indeed, they are different around the world.. the law doesn't always protect good partnerships that aren't on paper, and sometimes the law protects truly bad partnerships that are on paper.
the bible or church doesn't really have a definition of what a lawful "marriage" is.. i propose this..... if you set up home with a partner, you are "wed".

Interesting, thanks for posting dgp. I guess it's easy for us to be wrapped up in our own cult experience and the evils of shunning so that we forget sometimes that others have it a lot worse.
Imagine knowing that, if you leave, the men in your family could kill you?
