It does indeed. Approx 98% of all the species that have ever lived are now extinct. Our lineage came within a ba' hair (Scottish expression meaning a scintilla) of extinction more than once. It is one of the reasons I find theistic evolution impossible to accept

by cofty inthe national center for science education has launched a new annual award.. this crown of cluelessness, this diadem of density, this badge of bullpucky isn't awarded to just any darwin doubter.
the upchucky is bestowed on that one creationist whose efforts in the preceding year would inspire darwin (or any rational person) to "drive the porcelain bus".. nominees for the inaugural award included..... don mcleroy, the former chair of the texas state board of education, for his longstanding efforts to undermine the teaching of evolution in the lone star state;.

Ray Comfort of Living Waters Ministries, for his distribution of copies of the Origin of Species; disfigured with his own creationist introduction;
Casey Luskin of the Discovery Institute, for his logorrheic zeal in reciting the "intelligent design" talking points du jour, and
Al Jazeera, for its wildly misleading coverage of Ardipithecus ramidus.

One of my most vivid childhood memories is of standing on the bank of Loch Earn in Perthshire on a family holiday. I must have been about 9 or 10 years old so it was around 1973.
It is a beautiful part of the world, very different from the estate where we lived. Dad was a young elder, with a young family and a physically demanding job.
I remember so clearly we were skimming stones across the water when he said how much he wanted the "new system to come soon" it was a real heartfelt plea.
That was 37 years ago. Now he is retired and they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this month (I'm not invited)
It makes me sad to think about.

Back. and seeking ideas for screwing over the memorial
by Sirona inok. me and friends are going to attend a memorial on 30 march.. what would be the best way to get our message across?.
should we just throw a hundred flyers into the hall in the middle of the memorial?.
should we drink the wine and eat all the bread and then stand up and say something?.

Yes we all know only to well, I'm a former elder LeavingWt is ex-bethel. We all want to help jws wake up to the reality of the borg but I think that disrupting a memorial will only reinforce what they are told about ex-members.

Sitting on the Fence....to believe or not to believe, that is my dilemma.
by tootie ini was raised by a "strong" jw single mother.
she was very very strict but i loved her then and always will.
after the death of my mother i waivered back and forth with my spirituality only because this was my first chance of "freedom" and being in the world to do things that i never really got to do.

haha sorry onthewayout just beat you to it but your explanation was better.
tootie, please don't buy into the lie that the "world" is full of wicked nasty people. It is the "sine qua non" of every high control group that they encourage their members to hold unrealistic views of non-members.
Almost every ex-jw I have spoken to has made similar observations that they were so amazed to discover that the world is full of real people who are just trying to enjoy life and raise their kids. I have met so many great people since I left. The kind you are best to avoid are not the norm.

Hi my apologies - Borg is a nickname for the organisaton that refers to the way it tries to control its members thoughts and actions. I think it originated in a Star Trek episode but that's a guess

Yes there are many loving and sincere individuals in the organisation, but that's not the point really. There are loving and sincere individuals in almost every group you could mention.
The real issue you have to face up to is that the organisation demand total exclusivity. According to the official teaching only jws have the "truth" and every other religion is under Satan's control. Every individual who is not a baptised active JW will be destroyed at armageddon. Can you suppress your more enlightened understanding of life and conform to the non-negotiable demands of the borg?
