Whatever you are according to "records", you are what you are, among other things a definitely humble and therefore great human being, worthy of imitation.

Awen, ... I've never in my life heard anybody apologize so humbly and admit so openly that you may not have been right in the first place (with these words, I'm not implying you weren't). I'm so amazed I have no words. But I couldn't help writing just to let you know you've given me a lesson on humility like few people before. I take my hat off to you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the way you've moved my heart today. You've made me a better person. Are you a witness?

Psychology of Losing Faith
by daniel-p ini found this a very interesting article, concerning the psychological stresses involved in losing ones' faith (the title doesn't really do it justice):.
an atheist in the pulpitpublic identity and private belief are never more at odds than when a preacher loses his faith.

What an interesting thread! Thanks everybody for your input, especially you, Daniel-p, for starting it. Meeting Junkie No More, next week I'll take one morning off to visit all the English bookshops I can think of in Madrid with my by now long list of books (I've just counted them: I have selected 20 titles you guys on this forum have been recommending lately, and I'm dying to read them). I'll be happy if I find three or four... Will any of you accompany me? I'll treat you to some "tapas" in the Plaza Mayor with some good wine or beer...

Sorry about the delay, Meeting Junkie No More. I was finishing the article about Mother Theresa. Ha, ha! No, I hadn't heard about that book or the author, but I've already written it on my list of "soon-to-be-read" books. My problem is getting them here in Spain. Many of the books you recommend are, I suppose, impossible for me to get hold of at any bookshop in this country, but I'll try. Maybe through Internet. But having them shipped over doesn't sound like a cheap idea...

Meeting Junkie No more, thanks for the link. These words from Mother Theresa have particularly impressed me:
Lord, my God, who am I that You should forsake me? The Child of your Love — and now become as the most hated one — the one — You have thrown away as unwanted — unloved. I call, I cling, I want — and there is no One to answer — no One on Whom I can cling — no, No One. — Alone ... Where is my Faith — even deep down right in there is nothing, but emptiness & darkness — My God — how painful is this unknown pain — I have no Faith — I dare not utter the words & thoughts that crowd in my heart — & make me suffer untold agony.
So many unanswered questions live within me afraid to uncover them — because of the blasphemy — If there be God — please forgive me — When I try to raise my thoughts to Heaven — there is such convicting emptiness that those very thoughts return like sharp knives & hurt my very soul. — I am told God loves me — and yet the reality of darkness & coldness & emptiness is so great that nothing touches my soul. Did I make a mistake in surrendering blindly to the Call of the Sacred Heart?

Thank you so much, Daniel-p, for posting such an interesting article! It captivated me too. Reading about non-Witnesses experiencing their "moments of enlightenment" gave me a much broader perception of my own awakening, and confirmed the logic of my reasoning, since it seems to be happening globally to people from all religious backgrounds. For some reason, this time it really brought it home to me. How illuminating!

The Corniest, Cheesewad Songs You Can Possibly Come Up With
by AllTimeJeff infolks, i need a break from politics and jw's.... so i thought i would come up with a fun thread before hitting the hay.... (disclaimer: i barely know what fun is.
i go by if it makes me smile.
that is not a great barometer.... maybe it is...).
