lets face it, we don't know what humans are.
science is doing a good job at uncovering many facts about us, but even science cannot explain consciousness yet.
conciousness is still a strong mystery to us.
"Legalism" is an interesting term.

i joined this forum a while ago and am mostly a lurker these days, don't have much time to post.
but i have a conundrum i need some help with.
i have mostly successfully faded from the organization, and i was a witness my whole life.
Ooh I like the crisis of faith and social anxiety suggestions.. lol. Those are pretty much show stoppers for most people I think. The prying would probably come to screeching halt! I would only bring those out if absolutely necessary though.
I know everyone has their own ways of leaving, I am jsut fortunate that I have been inactive for a few years before I actually realized what I really want. I really appreciate the struggle of people who go from being active and elders, pioneers, etc!! Uggghh what a mess!
For myself I always felt like getting disfellowshipped was playing by THEIR rules. But I of course appreciate how sometimes its a good option.
Life is richer on the outside of the borg because you get to choose what is right for you.
No more rules being imposed on me felt liberating.
Yes, I have made a few friends who aren't witnesses, and oh man it is so relaxing!!! Everyone has their problems of course but you don't feel so judged! Its awesome!

Ok so I asked a moderator to add a title to this.
Thanks for the ideas everyone. Lets go along the lines of reasons for not going to meetings anymore. And what if you get invited to a meeting?

Hello everyone. I joined this forum a while ago and am mostly a lurker these days, don't have much time to post. But I have a conundrum I need some help with.
I have mostly successfully faded from the organization, and I was a witness my whole life. My mom is a devout JW and I still see people here and there who I basically grew up with because they are family friends. When they talk dub, I am polite to them about it and don't say much. Most of those people don't know how I really feel, obviously.
My attitude towards the witnesses (individually) is not one of animosity. While I know that I will never be able to have close friends who are JWs, there are some people who I would like to see once in a while. Some of my old friends are on facebook and have asked to go out for coffee or to meet my one year old son. This puts me in a pickle, because they aren't in my congregation and they don't know I haven't been to meetings in like 2 years and don't plan on going back.
So here is my question for the faders: how do you answer when someone asks you about your theocratic activity? Like, what hall are you in, etc? I am having trouble figuring out what to say. These people are definitely not going to be a big part of my life and haven't been for a while. I don't want to get into it with them. I am interested in any and all viewpoints.
Thanks!
i am coming out of hiding to post something i found (i am a big lurker on the forums.. don't have much opportunity to post, thank you 6 month old son!!).
i found a link to an interesting study where people who had left a strict religion were interviewed about their health and the findings were not surprising.
i linked it with the comments on the article also because i thought they were interesting as well.. .

the title pretty much says it all.. it's true that there are many classics that simply can't be topped but it doesn't stop people from trying anyway.
and what do ya know; occasionally someone does succeed.
here i will post at least one notable example.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o9gf_sofbm&p=301f39587863d18d&playnext=1&index=3.
sorry, double post

That guy may not have sex with men anymore... but boy is he still gay.
as ridiculous as it seems to me and most of you, the infamous 'generation' update has every jw that i know in a tizzy.
they're all worked up about how 'exciting' it all is.
i just received a letter from my mom (she only communicates through letters now), and she brought it up - how they carefully explained it at the convention, and how it shows that we are so close to the end.. unbelievable.
Jehovah's Witnesses seem to go through major evolutions every decade or two. That's their MO: Sell the end of the world to people. When the original End of World sell expires, a new one takes it's place. The new one brings in new members and "encourages" the old.
