April 15th WT/ Generation - MORE Points/ Mind Control by WT Society
by flipper inwe all chewed on this article pretty well when the news first came out about the " overlapping anointed " concept , however we discussed so much on just those 2 paragraphs dealing with the new " generation " theory - that almost the rest of the article was overlooked .
our lurking inactive jw friend on the board sent us a copy of the april 15th.
i think you folks may find this interesting.. on pg.

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
by dgp ini'm reading god is not great, by christopher hitchens, and somewhere i found an idea that, on the looks of it, should be easy to discuss with a jehovah's witness.
the idea being that men are fallible, and men with absolute power will inevitably make use of that absolute power for the absolute worst.
history has shown this time after time.

The only check and balances I can think of is that of not being able to say you will die an everlasting death if you don't do exactly as they say. And, I don't see why they should have the power to force anyone to go to field service, do this or that. They should let it be a matter to be decided between you and your God. Their role should be that of simple preachers of their doctrine.

I'm reading God is not Great, by Christopher Hitchens, and somewhere I found an idea that, on the looks of it, should be easy to discuss with a Jehovah's witness. The idea being that men are fallible, and men with absolute power will inevitably make use of that absolute power for the absolute worst. History has shown this time after time. I know what the answer to my question would be, but, I would like people to elaborate on why it should be difficult for a JW, used as he is in seeing flaws in other religions, to at least entertain the idea that it's not godly or correct to give the Governing Body the power it has. Fallible men as they are (remember the new light?), why should they have such power? Wouldn't it be in Jehovah's organization interest to split the power, so that no one has it all, and no one can abuse it for things Jehovah wouldn't approve of?
I will appreciate all posts. Thank you.

LD, that makes sense to me. I believe that there is an honest way to try to get a convert: tell him all you think up front, put all the information behind him, let him ask any questions, let him check any sources, and let him go away if he should want to. That is not exactly how they want to get you.
I had read something like these ideas Terry brought. I think it was in The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses. In any case, someone noticed that the preaching work is what separates those who are not really convinced from those who are really in. Now we see it was also mere office politics... How sad.

Discovery Channel program reveals King Tut's family to be European!
by moshe inthey did dna testing of mummies from king tut's family and a screen shot during the program reveals the dna marker numbers.
many viewers have video recorders and were able to write down those numbers.
the haplogroup seems to be of r1b lineage, which is very european and even very common in the uk and usa.

In my humble opinion, this is not surprising. Egypt isn't that far from Europe. And you're assuming that an European went down to Egypt, not the other way around.

thinking - what attracts people to the JW cult
by Married to the Mob intd made an interesting point in a anther thread that jw attracts unhappy people.
i agree with him but i have another theory, maybe its not true but there must be an element to it.. independent adaptive thinking.

The WTS appeals to some people because witnesses seem to have better morals and lead cleaner lives. You see, here they come, this hard-working, clean, well-attired and highly moral individuals. Some other people are attracted to the WTS because they fall for a witness. And one important reason why some people are attracted to the WTS is that in the outside world we don't know much about what really goes on once you're in. I believe that most of the people out wouldn't really know why they should care about whether Jerusalem really fell on 607 B.C, but most of us simple wouldn't want to join if we knew that witnesses see us as inferior beings, and that we are supposed to leave family and friends behind if we join.

The Joy of the coming "Thousand Years"
by Doug Mason ini understand that only the twenty million jws will survive this imminent armageddon.
since the worlds population is about seven billion, this means that each jw man, woman and youth will be left to locate and bury 350 corpses killed at armageddon.. .
these survivors will spend the rest of the following one thousand years teaching the wtss kingdom to resurrected people who previously never had the opportunity.

Jehovahsheep,
If this is the belief held by the WT, then I will confidently refuse to pay attention to anyone knocking on my door. Jehovah will give me a second chance anyways. Which means that I don't have to worry about not believing now; I can believe later, when I have proof.

The end is nigh!
by highdose inafter a year of having been out and 7 months on jwn, i like to think that i'm pretty well deprogrammed.. one thing i still have trouble with though is the mental attitude of thinking that the end is coming soon.
difficult to explain this, but its like a mental awareness that is always there no matter what.. and of course the end is not coming, i just don't know how to get my brain to realise this?!?

Our entire civilization believes that the end will come. It's difficult not to think that way even for a person who's never been a witness. Give yourself time.

Divorced women in the WTS
by dgp ini am not a witness.
if i have understood correctly, in the wts, a single woman is at a disadvantage.
the wts is male-dominated and a woman can only go up through her father or husband.

Thank you all for your posts. I think that, in the particular case I have in mind, the real answer is a mix of your posts. There are some advantages in being single. Those advantages get magnified if you're finally free from an abusive marriage that lasted forever. The chances of finding a good mate in the organization are low, and basic human pride prevents you from throwing yourself at anybody else's feet. Marrying out is a difficult option, and a worldly mate would need to be impressive indeed to make it worth all the heartbreak and trouble. And then, he would need to be made of good material, and have real b**lls, to endure the short treatment he would also receive. Maybe he would give up. He will die at Armageddon anyways. Why go through all that, if the new system is around the corner, and you can find the perfect mate then? Since you had such problems in this life, why not wait to find someone you can live eternally with?
The sad thing is that, in real life, this line of reasoning sounds more like retreat. It sounds like "I had such a bad time that I won't even try again; I can't possibly find anyone worth it". While total happiness does not exist, I'm sure that there should be a way to find a mate you can be comfortable with. Just as it is common to hear that someone will not marry again, it's common to hear that someone finally found a good mate. It might not look so, but this is lack of any hopes. The assumption that you will find a perfect mate in the "new system" is not necessarily granted. Whoever said there would be an equal sex ratio among those spared at Armageddon?
Thanks for your posts.
