  Sooner- Learn some new ideas from countries that have addressed ther social and economic issues with some degrees of success. These 'Nordic Smordic' countries all began a great change after WWII and it has proven itself. Leaning towards aspects of Socialism worked. Education, Healthcare, in general putting the people and the environment first. Norway's Treasury surplus has over $1,000,000.00 per person.

  Is a big swath of America to stubborn to learn.

  The Protesters nationwide will go back to their schools and jobs but if the underlying problems persist they will march again. Maybe city councils across the country will start having the necessary conversations to address their local issues. Important issues- What are the consequences when school budgets are cut.

  Since Michael Brown's death 14 teens have been killed by police officers. In the past couple of days two more fatal shootings and a near miss. One 12 year old died, Tamar Rice.

  Iceland had its first ever fatal police shooting last year, the first one, in its 69 year history. The officers do not carry weapons except in extrodinary circumstances. While Iceland has high gun ownership deaths by guns are rare. One murder in 2013. There is strict gun regulation. Iceland is more Socialist and class distinctions are less than in Capitalist countries. Iceland is a strong supporter of the UN Arms Trade Treaty and the UN Firearms Protocol.

  In the developed countries were fatal shootings have dropped in all catagories and crime is low Primary Care and Secondary Care factors are believed to be key factors. 1.Loving Family. 2. Social Programs- education, career training, social activities, civic pride.

  Do any School Districts in the US still offer Skilled Trades classes- Metal Shop, Wood Shop, Automotive Shop, Drafting. In the early 1960s we had those classes. When I graduated I had built tables and chairs for the Final. Metal shop- we made tools. Architecture class- I built a scale model home.

  Germany, as I understand, makes sure a High School graduate has a marketable skill and is in an apprenticeship program.

  The St. Louis School Districts are rated 4 out of 10 on test results. www.greatschools.org

  Raphael Lemkin worked with the concept we call Cultural Genocide which the UN incorporated in its 1948 Declaration on the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Cultural genicode can preceed physical genocide, it can also be concurrent with the physical demolition of a race or races.

  The Americas were built on Cultural Genocide and Physical Genocide. The Indigenous peoples were declared the 'Thugs' of their day which was turned into justification for forced explusion from their very homes and lands. When the 'Savages' pushed back more physical explusion, relocation, and confinement was the response. Any attempt at being free again or to reclaim their own homes and lands was met again and again by physical genocide.

  After all how dare the actual original land owners be so uppity and want Equal Rights from their new Masters.

  HT- Its been just 66 years since a major decision was made regarding race in this country. 1948 President Harry Truman, by Executive Order, desegregated the US Army, by Executive Order, why, the majority of Congress opposed the desegregation of the Armed Forces. Think about how recent that is. Elder statesmen you see on the News right now were alive when that decision was made, and against the wishes of the majority.

  In Los Angeles a Sports Program has been set up in the Watts District, where the 1965 riots took place. Football, Track and Field. The coaches- Los Angeles Police Officers. Things can change for the better, good things.

  But they aren't all shot and that is picked up by our Society as a whole. Bernard Madoff wasn't shot for ripping off Billions but the teen will for a few bucks. If you live in a culture that adds some particular insults to your ethnicity, and there are other real or perceived slights to getting ahead anger and frustration grows. Madoff may even get out someday while the teen could face life in prison.

  People in a given city understand that the streets in the wealthy neighborhood don't have chipped curbs and pot holes. One city but two or more worlds.

  The Fire This Time- examines another very imperfect human, Rodney King, who defied cops, resisted arrest, was non compliant, got royally beaten. When the riots occured after the cops were aquitted people were similarly split over the causes and the immediate actions. One bad apple became the ticking time bomb against a background of greater injustice and insults.
