Coordinator of Elders Problems in One Southern England Circuit!

freddo: Thanks for the insight, it makes total sense but it just never occurred to me. If the Bethel culls is a topic of conversation in your area (australia?) it must be so worldwide -- so much for the downsizing not coming back to bite them in the ass! -

The searcher: Okay here is a really silly question, when do elders meet? (assemblies or one of those special yearly meetings?)
All the news we are hearing must be seeping through to the elders. Along with the many recent changes it must be having an effect. I read that many rapid changes can be a factor to draw someone into a cult (a feeling something important is happening) however this was aimed at a younger person. An elder, who presumably would often be a middle-aged person with a family, stability is likely a more important factor mentally and the many changes (such as the digitalization of the religion and the televised appearance of the GB members in their daily life) must require major mental re-adjustment.

Fall of the Berlin wall (though I did not understand it at the time) and 9/11.
It is a bit scary to think about what else we are going to see. Seems like it is about one "moment in history" every 20 years so it would appear we are nearly due.

On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

This forum allows very wide definition of free speech and I think it is that much better for it. If people could be banned for being offensive or rude I would not like to be here and I can't imagine the forum not collapsing with endless bickering about partiality, what constitute rudeness, etc.
But if the forum allows posters to be (near at least!) as unconstructive and rude as they like, the upshot is it is possible to point this out and disagree with the delivery. If someone call someone a fool for not understanding evolution, it should be allowed to say this too is a foolish way to respond.

Headline: "Islamic Invasion: Europe now scrambles for guns." How true is this?
by cappytan ina year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

Finelstein: Notice how in the article goes from describing the refugees as "refugees" (with quotes) to 'Muslim invaders' within a short span. -

Leah Remini - Scientology
by tresdecu inlast night on 20/20, they did an interview with leah remini (american actress know for king of queens tv show) she was raised in scientology since the age of 8, and recently left rather publicly.
she re-enforced what we all know, that they are bat shit crazy (like any cult) but also talked about how hard is it to leave something that's been a part of you for so long.. so many interesting parallels to our world (former world) of jw'dumb.
it's a great ep to watch with someone you are trying to awaken.

Tide seems to have definitely turned for Scientology. When was the last time an A-list celebrity joined them? People must by now consider them to be a bat-shit crazy money grubbing cult. I predict it will soon be take-the-money-and-run time for their leaders.

Finkelstein: Bingo! The fear-mongering and (in my view) a not so subtle attempt to turn this into an argument against gun control is just distracting from the many very real problems and suffering facing these poor people and (on the long run) the difficulties the countries that house them will have to face.

Bohm, do you have a specific example of someone responding in a discussion using words like "muddled" without first having addressed the argument itself?
I think this would only derail the discussion but yes on the top of my head I can think of several posters who frequently describe other peoples replies using derogatory language, or assert that the truth is obvious but the other person have not bothered to understand it, rather than addressing the substance of what the other person is saying.
If you insist on specific examples then in the past I would too sometimes do something like this myself and I believe today it was in part due to being is more stressful life circumstances and in part due to not being confident enough to type out a proper reply.
