Association: Am i being lied to?

i don't hesitate to bring up with the girl i study with, my criticisms of the religion, and one of those is the association.

i keep reading on here that jw's don't make friends outside the cult, and this is what i used as an excuse for stepping further away from being baptized.

she tells me it's not true, and they can have what ever friends they want.

"Spiritual Warefare". It's not forbidden, you're just treated like a social invalid if you do it.

Just as you are being encouraged/led/pressured/whatever toward baptism...

Once you are baptized, the "encouragement" will continue toward "greater" things - being a frequent commentor/pioneer/ms/elder/person who handles microphones.. etc. There is no end to it. Period. You're not doing enough, and you never will be.

There is NEVER a meeting about how good a job everyone is doing. NEVER. It's always about what you are not doing. 100% truth right there. There are always "Local Needs", not "Local commendation" parts. No matter what you're doing - you really should be doing more, and if you're associating with non-JW's, that is probably what is holding you back, and why JEHOVAH isn't blessing your hard work.

Part of that "encouragement" will be the repeatedly beaten drum on "bad association". You'll find yourself in back rooms with elders offering you "encouragement" to only associate in the LORD, complete with bible scriptures quoted at you.

Today is my brithday and I feel depressed.

woke up next to my wonderful wife after getting up she make me a great breakfast and for dinner tonight grilled steak and a brithday cake she made.

so why am i depressed?

could it be my children will not call me today to wish me a happy brithday.

I live alone and birthdays are, well, depressing - especially considering all my relatives are JW's.

My birthday tends to be me.. me celebrating the day for me.

Sometimes, I at least get one or two messages on facebook - but this year I didn't get any. I went to bed pretty depressed, which doesn't feel right on your birthday.

The next morning, I discovered that my friend's wife had left me a message on my phone after I went to bed wishing me a happy birthday - and it made me feel a whole lot better the next day. At least until I rembered that her birthday was just a few days before mine, and I hadn't wished her one.

Since then, I've decided I need to pay more attention to other people's birthdays, rather than my own.

First off - you are approximately 62% water by weight. It is more accurate to say we are primarily made out of water rather than "dirt".

Secondly, the majority of a plant's non-water mass comes from turning CO2 and H2O into sugars and carbohydrates through photosynthesis. Aside from water, plants get most of their mass from the air (carbon from carbon dioxide), and supplement that with a smaller percentage of nutrients from the soil. In essence plants are primarily "carbon and water" - not dirt. Animals then eat the plants, which in turn we eat as well.

Apparently "dirt" is just a lame way of saying "matter"... as by the time atoms that originated in the dirt reach our bodies, they'll have undergone several chemical changes, and be a whole different set of molecules.

I would venture a guess that far more JW's have escaped the WT through the efforts of people "sitting behind computers" - people creating well-written,well-researched articles with references than the sum of all anti-watchtower protests have.

I wouldn't over-estimate the power of protest against JW's, nor underestimate the power of factual information presented where JW's can read it in the privacy of their own homes.

But I see where some think him "mental"puffed up"

Re-read the first thread, and my first response to it.

It is not protesting that makes Rick appear "mentally puffed up" (though his photo really doesn't help) - it's when he takes us all for idiots and says things like "The protest... is gaining lots of attention on the internet." About 15 seconds with google's real-time and social search tools make it plain as day that next to nobody is giving Rick's protests attention.

Letting Rick's lies slide "because he's an ex-JW" while calling out the WT is hypocritical.

It is truth that sets JW's free. For someone to have a positive impact on JW's, they should strive to always be honest, and to present the best factual information they can. People like Rick can do more harm than good, as he exposes the WT in one sentence, then says something patently false in the next. Once caught in a lie, a JW is likely to assume Rick's other claims are just twisted facts and lies as well.

Thank you Kimbo, it is refreshing to receive kind words, it's only on here JWN. that the faultfinding is is relentless.

For a humble, honest, and good-hearted man - there is no reason to look for faults.

For an arrogant, boastful, and dishonest man - his whole life is a failure.

Perhaps if you weren't constantly opening your mouth to boast and spew obvious and demonstrably false statements, people wouldn't point out your "faults" (what a nice euphemism for 'lies').

The interesting fact is the more criticism I get here helps bring more curious people into our call.

Based on your track record interpreting reality - I think a fair guess would be that the amount of 'help' you get by making a fool of yourself here is pretty much on-par with the supposed 'social media' coverage of your protests.

It is important to show up in large numbers, the impact is more significant and it speaks volumes.

What a terrible idea!

This would play perfectly into the JW persecution complex - it would say load and clear that the world 'hates' JW's, that the world is 'turning on the true religion', and that everything the Watchtower says is true.

Mentally balanced people realize there are far greater evils in the world than the WT, which hurt far more people in far worse ways. Priorities.
