Thinking of Becoming One of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by The Searcher inif you become one of jehovah's witnesses, here are five points which will not be driven home to you until after you have been baptized as "one of jw's":.
1) you will be required to commit as much of your time and financial resources as you are able - to further the aims & acquisitions of the billion dollar corporation known as the wtbts/ccojw - namely, to recruit new members and to increase their worldwide real estate empire.. 2) you will be required to terminate "worldly" association with former friends.. 3) you will be "expected" to attend each and every meeting, assembly, convention, and kh televised broadcasts which are arranged by the self-proclaimed "governing body" (g.b.
) in brooklyn, n.y.. 4) you will be required to blindly accept any decisions/directions issuing forth from the g.b., even if you disagree with it.

Performance is MANDATORY in this religion. You HAVE TO go door to door. If you don't then you aren't 'witnessing'.
As my Dad's dementia worsened, I watch him become despondent because he knew he couldn't do what they expected of him and he beat himself up over it.
Children are also expected to do Field Serve-Us. And what about people who are incapable due to being physically and/or mentally challenged?
And about blood transfusions, well, just hope you don't ever need one.

Gotta agree with Oubliette. Not a phrase found in the Bible. Just more made-up BS from Botchtower. -

Praying in Public?
by Garrett inhellloooo fellow apostates, mentally diseased devil worshippers :) how is everyone?.
today, i listened to a song about praying and how one can pray anywhere.
well, this song brought back the horror of sitting in restaurants, mcdonalds, coffee shops etc and having a group of brothers and sister bow their head and pray for what seemed to be an eternity.

I have a Catholic friend who prays, silently, before every meal, including when we all go out to a restaurant. It's a bit awkward but we all just ignore it.
We are an eclectic bunch. An atheist, a Catholic, a Jew, and I'm not sure about our fourth friend. She could be Buddhist but she hasn't said yet. She is Chinese and believes wearing red underwear during Chinese New Year brings luck.

In my Father's congregation, there was an older lady who was a hoarder. Her husband left her. I told my Dad this woman needed psychological help and asked him if anyone helped her get to a counsellor. The answer was No. This is typical in JW world. Don't go and get real help, just Pray More and Wait on Jehovah.

Why do we get TTATT and others don't?
by quest81 ini have thought about how ttatt came full circle for me.
how the connecting the dots was simple and just made sense,.
how silos of information are literally at our fingertips today.. why is it that the ones we love cannot get ttatt?.

I think it comes down to being intellectually honest with yourself.
I am not sure my trigger was something specific. Just the mounds of 'this shit don't add up' in my head.

Talking with JW Elders possibly..
by bradford inas i wrote in a previous post i have recently written a da letter to the elders and haven't heard anything in the way of an announcement, phone call, or visit since.
i called the elder the letter was personally written to yesterday and left a vm to call me back which he did this morning.
he said they did get it but were meaning to call me and possibly meet with me to try and see if there was anything they could do to encourage me because they of course find this very sad.

Yeah screw all that. Already called and said "no thanks." No point wasting any time talking. I'm walking away.
bradford, I have to agree with you. If you've decided to leave, just leave. You don't need the agony of going through the JW's BS processes of shepherding, DAing, or DFing you. Just live your life. I wish you all the best.

World becoming more religious not less

I think people seek religion when their world fails them in some way. Those born in that stay either haven't done the work to critically review their faith or they know something isn't quite right but stay due to family, friends, and a sense of community.
Instead of doing the difficult work of re-engineering one's life when something doesn't work, they turn to the easy solution of 'faith' - faith that God will fix everything for you. And that sometime in the future, typically after you've died, if you pass some imaginary trial judgment, you will be gifted with eternal life in paradise.
Anything fundamentalist or extremist is worrisome. It only takes one nut job in the right position of power within a religion for it to become fundamentalist or extremist.
To paraphrase Christopher Hitchens on Islam:
"Islam claims to be the Total Solution. The word 'total' is the first 5 letters of the word totalitarian."

This would make for an interesting compilation paired with the cases reported within the JW religion.
