It is very hard for most elderly people to change their views.
My Dad's mind was changed for him... it's called Dementia.
a dear old man, 81 years of age died the other day.
my family studied with his family in 1969 and the entire family left their beloved catholic church and became jehovah's witnesses within 6 months.the man was illiterate and unschooled.
still, he believed "the truth" and even when some of his kids left or got disfellowshipped, he persevered.

who can forget the opening credit to the wonder years.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ob59hsrafu.

Internet news says he was 70 years old and had been battling cancer. Love his voice. Sorry to hear he is gone.
have you seen this article?.

Definitely liking this term!
so, i'm visiting family this week who are all jws.
yesterday, it started with one of them talking about a co giving her some points on time keeping for service.
she is now writing a letter before she drives to service, so she can count her drive time.
I don't understand how driving is considered preaching. I never understood the counting of time. It's rather useless to me. All that time spent walking, and driving is counted yet no one is 'preached' to during this. To me, the amount of time you spend at the door actually talking to someone is what should be counted if at all.
My Dad could never answer my questions on this. You could spend hours and hours driving and walking to peoples' homes and if no one is home, not one person will be 'preached' to yet the time is counted.
It makes zero sense to count this as it is 100% useless ... oh, unless your goal is REALLY to keep people busy so they think they are doing something important and to use it as a control mechanism.
i don't think i've started but one or two threads before.
i find myself sitting here listening to beautiful instrumental christmas music and feeling down.. you see, i was "in" for over thirty years.
thirty years with no christmas.
Quandry, I can relate to what you've said about losing loved ones. Christmas time makes me feel sad as I cannot spend time with them anymore. Death is permanent. And there is no coming back. Cherish those you have left.
All the men except Jesus are clean shaven.
I do not see anything in the OP.
i don't understand the relevance of the first picture in this weeks study article?!?!.
wt week of december 15-21 "cherish your privilege of working with jehovah".
can someone post the pic?.
are they fearful that they are mistaken, so they must argue with everyone, and try to prove all otehr religions wrong, but their's right?.
i'm not talking about the well-known jw persistence, in which we all once shared.. i'm talking about nearly all brands of christianity, the witnesses and their other branded counterparts.
here are two incidents to demonstrate.. a week or so back, i read in a chinese newspaper of a complaint by two tibetan buddhist women in the city of xining, qinghai province, in western china.
They're still stuck in the 1st century.
Think about it... when you first start a new organization, you need membership so as rebel8 said, they had to 'spread the word' in order to increase the flock. The agenda is clearly documented in the Bible. If you don't get 'reborn' as a Christian, you risk judgment and eternal punishment/torture. We've got all the answers. Sign up now and be saved. You will have eternal happiness after you die.
I like to point out to Christians that if spreading their message is so important, why are they doing a piss poor job of it? I usually get the offended look. I then say, "Look. There are 7 billion people and growing in the world. Christians amount to about 2.5 billion. That's less than half the world's population. There are people born on this Earth, that live their entire lives and die without ever having heard of Jesus. So I guess they're screwed then?"
Kinda like these peeps:

Unless these so called 'experts' ARE gay, how can they can give any sort of advice on being gay?.
