I sit here in disbelief. I mean, WOW. I read that link(goddamnit!) and pffffft. This whole organization really is a work of art eh? Its all a big double decoy. When I was a joe, i was so consumed with wondering about all things "spiritual", and wondering if I was "good enough". Right now, at this very moment I can see it! "keep em busy thinkin about something else" and they won't question about the money, CAUSE THEY WONT BE ABLE TO THINK ABOUT IT!

Your comment too ATJ, thanks for the clarification. I have to ask. As one in charge of collecting, did you actually see a "spike" in contributions after those "pep defecit" talks?

Now, in my ignorance, it really all boils down to money. But, to rank and file JW's it DOES NOT MATTER how its done. We all know that. They trust the slave and thats that. Period. The REAL question? How does one know what is done with the money that is sent to HQ? Every joe nowadays will say " It's all used to further the "Kingdom Work". IS it?

I just about shit my pants on another thread here where blondie highlited some material about "tipping your hat to women". Just how deep is this rabbit hole going to go?

i know some mannerisms to avoid such as when someone sneezes, dubs don't say, "bless you" or "god bless you" for sacrilious reasons.. so the question is, what worldly mannerisms do dubs avoid?.

It took me a few minutes to "digest" what were you saying in trying to explain defecits ATJ....I think i was editing that post when you were replying to it or something. Hence the "I eat rocks".

How would/or could the numbers be fudged? I imagine that if they were to be played with, it would have to be in "non obvious" way . Perhaps money was "shifted" towards certain things and not others leaving "defecits"? Which brothers were responsible for this ? Higher ups? Local BOE's?

The "predetermind number" that was put out there. Do you know anything of it, like what was actually included in it? Did the number have to do with things regarding costs outside of the circuit assembly?

You talked about chq's. Did you ever take note of certain brothers making contributions,via cheque's, JUST so there would be a name associated with the contribution? I imagine it may be hard to tell, since it is a preferred form of "contibution" so that you can "write it off" inside of a personal buisness.

Surely you have some great stories in these things Jeff.

In other news : Noth Korea kicks out UN inspectors . Very remeniscent of Saddam dontcha think? I can't help but wonder if NK is one big "testing ground" for Iran, to see how the 'world' handles them. Both countries have been "pushing" a little harder as of late. North Korea has nothing to gain though, do they? It's all very odd to me. Your thoughts?

Need some help on renovation costs

i am looking at an older house and although it is nice from the outside, brick home, it needs lots of work on the inside.

i would like to get a feel before proceeding any further.. house was built in 1973. here are some things that i found off the top:.

sinis - Im releatively new here, so mind me if there are details about yourself that I am unaware of. But; hello.

also, i still only have limited posts, so replies to this will be through edits on this post. Sorry, but thanks for bearing with me.

I am involved with construction, and work with interiors. Speaking straight up with you, you have a larger house. No one here will be able to give you an accurate estimation. It is an exercise in futility. I say this with experience.

Its my contention that you have limited experience. There are MANY factors that are going to affect your final outcome. These factors are best handled by a professional contractor. I say this, because the plans that you have, are extensive. Another factor that has to be taken into consideration is where you live, and how big and busy it is around your area. With the realization of there being such a slowdown in the US right now, now may well be a good time to get some of this work done, as there will be some healthy competition between contractors in getting this done for a competetive price.

What line of work you and your family are in, does weigh heavily into this as well. But, I really just wanted to warn you that it's terrible getting in over your head without experience, as it often costs more to get someone in to fix things.

One room is one thing, but a whole house is "different cabbage" altogether.

Finally Free -

I hear ya loud and clear. I never could "sell" the Witness Ideal cause i never really " believed" in it. I used to avoid Mac, because I was a gamer and couldn't play them on anything other than a PC. That all changed with the introduction of Pentium processors to the Mac line. Since i could run XP on a Mac with "bootcamp", i decided to take the plunge. Could you tell me about VMWare Fusion a little bit? I tried parallels once, but was put off of it as it split my Ram up. I have 1 gig, and it wold take half to run Parallels and half was given to MacOS. I didn't like it.

There you are Cameo....I was a wondering where ya were.

I have had many computers over the years, including laptops. The laptop scene has changed a lot in recent years and they are much more affordable now days. You got 10 YEARS out of your comp! Thats amazing. The very best decision I ever made with regards computer purchases, was buying a MAC. While apprearing to be more expensive on the surface, one only has to dig a little bit, and they can see why they are worth the extra. Intuative; which is extremely important when i comes to learning a new OS. Simple and straight forward too. If you use your computer for surfing the net, which i am going to wager a guess and say that you must, it's pretty much the same as a Windows based machine. MUCH less clutter on a Mac. A 10 year old computer lacks the "guts" to run any of todays more modern software, so im guessing you primarily surf the net....searching.

Did ya know, that with a Mac, that I don't even have to run an antivirus program to counter all the online threats out there? Speaking of which, perhaps your computer is bogged down? Do you have "the savy" to know such things Cameo? Have you run any programs to "clean your comptuer up", and quite possibly get some more life outta your horse? If you can afford a new computer, you may well appreciate it i'm sure.

Edit REPLY #1 - Cameo - Your computer is old...you need a new one. Sounds like perhaps something is overheating or something. Perhaps it works now cecause it has cooled down?

The video footage that made reference to. Phew. It was interessting to hear them refer to the Brittanica as "prestigious". Your very right too about the various symbols...neatly laid out. Do ya think it was him persoanlly laid them out in plain view? Do you think the people running the camera's are in the know?

I remember at my Circuit Assembly, hearing "defecit" a lot. I felt a tad guilty for not contributing. Hell with it though, even if I put some in, im sure i just would have felt guilty thinking it wasn't enough or something.

This gets me a little warm under the collar. I understand what your saying now. Thank you for explaining. A little vague for my fragmented brain, but i got it.

I always wondered how they knew what the expenses were going to be! It took my Dad's hydro bill a month to come in!

Seriously though. They average everything out based on the numbers in attendence right? I understand that they have to "crunch some numbers" before the whole "circuit chain" makes its way through the building over the months. But is everything "readjusted" for the ACTUAL attendence of THAT assembly? It would have to be i imagine. Cause if they ran a deficit for every assembly, then by the time it gets to the last meeting there, there would be an announcement that would have a HUGE number.

The word deficit is a terrible word. Think they are instructed to use it, as opposed to "running a little behind"? how would the numbers be played with ATJ?

Hmm. Who makes up that particular committee? Assorted elders?

Edit : Did you find that certain ones would write checks for personal acknowlegement? Sure it's not a write off if it's cash, but big cheques must have had to come in.

Doubting Bro. Good on you for being so organized, you had a good plan there. I'm GLAD you were not in MY congregation! I always LOVED it when the co ordinator "messed up" and there was no public talk scheduled...it was like Christmas! No talk, JUST the Watchtower. They were the BEST meetings.

Snakes - Why were they D and F speakers? Just poor speakers in general? Or were any of them incorporating apostate stuff? any arguments ever?
