i have read though maddie's thread the last day or so, and have really been repulsed by some of the comments that she received.
some just responded bs; how eloquent!?.
When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was about how the Elders (and others in the congregation who may have heard rumors) treat people who are suspected of "sin" before an investigation and decision are even made. CONTEMPT.
But about Maddie's thread...I agree that some weren't very nice. I had much respect for those that were simply happy for her and her newfound peace, though. Who cares where it comes from as long as it's THERE?
when they'd warn us at every circuit assembly not to read apostate literature, remember how they'd tell us if we received it in the mail, to throw it away immediately?
what thoughts went through your mind?.

Actually, I just found a picture of the monkey, it's an 80's "antique" and someone is selling one on Ebay. Mine's face was broken in front so I was shoving his thumb into the foam, instead. LOL Here's a photo of him intact!

to start, i just posted on the friends topic, a thread on the 07 circuit assembly.
i received replys that made me think of how if children could not be bapticed, how that alone could have blunted some of the disfunction in our lives.
This is a REALLY good point! I left at 18 so technically my baptism at 9 should be null and void since I left as soon as I became a legal adult.
For the person that mentioned the law not being able to force a person to love someone else (ie a parent to love their child)...I don't really think this is the point. The DFing that took place against a child (or upon their reaching legal adulthood) should be publicly revoked in the congregation and an announcement made that the person is no longer to be viewed as DFed but instead viewed as if they had never been baptized at all.
the last assembly i attended was in 07. the do spoke about pushing and shoving and forcing the children to become bapticed!
i really was actually concerned not mad or angry but just concerned.
i think that was when i realized you have to either move on or become a part of the congregation and do your best to salvage whatever good there is in the congregations.
Yes, I received some gifts...not a lot, obviously, but more than I got for years before or after that date.
Thanks for the picture compliments, IRDWOOAKH, it was particularly nice to let my daughter dress as she wanted to for the Halloween dance...short black dress and wings, handcuff necklace and earrings, high heeled boots, fishnet stockings, black hair spray, and make-up! She didn't act demonic or depressed...she was HAPPY and had a great time. That, to me, is what childhood is SUPPOSED to be about. The dance, the holiday, the whole outfit, the "worldly friends"...all would have been denied without question when I was growing up. Actually, asking for any of those would have gotten me a trip to the "back room" for some serious talking to, possible reproval, or even DFing if I wasn't sorry!

What the hell ever happened to your passenger simply saying, "Please don't smoke when I'm in the vehicle"???
Of course this is not at ALL comparable to Nazi Germany but seriously...do people REALLY need law enforcement speaking for them with regards to smoking (or asking someone NOT to smoke) in a private vehicle, now?
If someone was a non-smoker riding in my van and I wanted to light up I would ASK THEM FIRST. I don't need police to give me a ticket based on the assumption that my non-smoking passenger might have been quietly offended by my habit. I'm sorry, but in my car I should be able to do as I please. And if I invited someone into my car they should feel comfortable enough to tell me my smoking would be offensive to them without an officer's help (and I should be kind enough to ask before lighting up). If neither is the case then they should not be in my car to begin with!!!
I can take the smoking bans in public places...restaurants...even BARS (though this is a stretch for me)...but in my own CAR? HELL NO.
insensitivity to tragedy, especially when it interferes with their plans, seems to be the norm among jws.. the story about the kansas city k.h.
suicide, and the concern local jws are showing, mainly toward the rebuilding of the hall, reminded me of something that happened in rome, italy at the 2000 international assembly at the olympic stadium.

NEVER will the organization stop to recognize or admit they have hurt someone..."mental illness" is the quick explanation, instead. Funny how many mentally ill, incompetent, or evil people they have in the organization that either end up killing themselves, leaving of their own will, or being DFed for "wrongdoing". It's never the Society's fault...
once having been a member of the jw religion and now that you have left, what is the worst thing that you realise it has done to you?
i.e has it left you mentally scarred?
has it left you with serious family trouble?

I wanted to add that as a survivor of abuse/rape before the age of 4 I think I was a lot more susceptible to the "out of body" thing. In reading I have found that this is actually a very common coping mechanism for children in the situation I was in, as it allows you to remove yourself from your physical self in uncomfortable/painful situations to lessen the damage. Going from that situation to the JW organization I guess the ability followed me for some years before finally fading away. I did this at assemblies and conventions as well.
