  Mixed thoughts re: Silentlambs group

  a person has to be a bit nieve to think that if the wt suddenly gave into all of the demands of silentlambs that silentlambs would somehow cease to exist and or let up their pressure on the society.. i think there is a broader agenda here, one that includes a measure of revenge against the wt and one that won't stop until they are out of business.

  no child is truely protected or safe when they are raised in a cult.

  a logical extention of silentlambs would be expanding their agenda to include the blood issue and children.. it is this obvious broader agenda the silentlambs group has that invites criticism from active witnesses.

  The "Silentlambs group" should not be confused with the rest of us unwashed masses who may have jumped on the bandwagon. I haven't read all of Bill's writings, but I'd like to see some proof of his split or hidden agenda.

  Some people who hate the WT have smelled the blood in the water, but to say that Bill and Barbara have organized an effort to take shots at the WT "on the backs of children" seems very inaccurate and unfair to them. Apostates adopted them, they didn't adopt us. (I'm not even sure if Bill disagrees with the society doctrinally; on blood, etc...)

  As for the "anti-WT" writings on his web site, are you referring to the testimonials from victims? If a person finds his site, and feels that finally they have a place they can speak out, should Bill censor their comments, stifle them the way they've always been stifled, so he isn't labelled anti-WT? Guess what... he's going to be labeled anti-WT no matter what he says. The second he said "we have a problem here," he was labeled an apostate. To silence these victims in favor of the strongly indoctrinated JWs who visit the site would only compound their victimization.

  Path, I understand where you're coming from, but you've painted the people who started Silentlambs with a very broad brush. The "destroy the WT at all costs" brigade doesn't represent the vast majority of we apostates, let alone the Silentlambs group.

  Could I Make It As A Professional Gambler?

  as i have mentioned before, at the end of august i plan on moving to las vegas.

  however, i am wondering if i could acually make a living as a professional gambler.

  i recently bought a cd-rom game that has many casino games.

  Gil,

  I used to go to the casinos here in town (not Las Vegas) regularly. In US casinos, Blackjack has the best odds. However, with the rules I play, which are just about the most favorable rules you'll find, the house still has a 0.5% advantage (assuming you play PERFECT basic strategy). If you learn to count cards (not hard to do, but hard to hide that you're doing it) you can actually gain a 0.5 to 1.0% advantage.

  I had a spell where I could not lose. I was winning about $1000 every weekend. I figured, if I can win that much in two days, how much would I win if I quit my job and started going five or six days a week? Well just as I was typing up my letter of resignation from a well-paying job, I went on a bit of a losing streak. In a period of four months I lost almost everything I'd won the previous two. Nothing I did went right! (Though I did get to witness the astronomical occurence of seeing a dealer get 21 five times in six hands, including three blackjacks in a row, and a six-card 21.))

  I watched people cashing in their social security checks at the counter, and saw their bug-eyed desperation as they prayed for a winning hand. It was pretty depressing, and I said "I see these people down here all the time... they must have a gambling problem." Jokes aside, gambling is a losing proposition if you think of it as anything but entertainment.

  Lastly, I'm convinced that computer gambling games are rigged in your favor. They want you to have fun, and if you always lose all your money, you're not going to think the game was very fun.

  Non never said he was a philosopher, did he? Be careful how you read the text. It can be deceptive. Non just does not like to answer questions that are not properly nuanced.

  In your efforts to weasel out, you impose a lack of reading comprehension on yourself. I must say that all those years of dumbing yourself down for the Watchtower have paid off.

  I didn't say you were a philosopher. In your watchtoweresque attempt to backpedal, you asked for 'guidance', shall we say, in answering the original question I posed. I said answer as if you were not talking to a philosopher. I never said you were a philosopher. Yet you answer as if that is what I said.

  I credit you with too much intelligence to believe that you don't see the difference. Therefore, one can only assume that you intentionally suspend said intelligence in the face of a question you'd rather not answer.

  BTW, you're doing the same with Farkel, now. You suspend reasoning ability and take a too-literal understanding of his statement, because it allows you to ignore the actual message. I wonder what position you hold in the congregation. I suspect that the brothers in your circuit don't know how good a lackey they have at their disposal. (And never doubt how quickly and thoughtlessly you will be disposed of if you ever stop suspending your doubts.)

  No offense, but I think I'm done interacting with you, dunscot. My last few months here have been spent as a wise-cracking fluff poster, and I just don't have the attention span to debate line-by-line with you. I used to sit around with a friend and engage in the kind of mental masturbatory debates that you enjoy; each person taking a side regardless of their true convictions, and arguing 'till the cows come home. Alas, that friend is no longer around, and I find that I can't capture those magical days of yesteryear with you.

  The days ahead will be filled with reactions to the Dateline airing. I know you'll do your level best to draw as much attention away to yourself as humanly possible, but do try to sit back from time to time and actually think about the issues.

  Thank you for clarifying. I do understand what you're saying.

  We've often compared disfellowshipping to death, especially since JWs treat DFd people as walking dead. That's why I thought the analogy could fit. I also think the Society's witch-hunt, focusing on the four people involved in the Dateline piece, does make them martyrs.

  Is Bill's literal life at risk? Is he fighting for a Democratic government? Is he Chinese? Of course not, but I think there are enough similarities to justify the analogy.

  As for attention-grabbing? Well, maybe Bill has learned the fine art of the sound bite.

  Anyway, as you said, we can agree to disagree. When I saw the initial exchange between you and Michael, I just worried that another rip-roaring JWD flame war was abrewin'.
