  What are the legal limits of defending ones property? CSI: Mailbox baseball

  so i was watching csi this week and a homeowner, in attempt teach a lesson.

  to local kids who kept bashing his mailbox while playing mailbox baseball,.

  fills his mailbox with cement one night.. that night, a kid swings at the box, breaks his shoulder, the bat shatters.

  I hope so Mandette... that was about the dumbest law they had up there.

  If you need a deputy in Bay or Midland county after they get there you are SOL... especially Bay County. What a bunch of weak knees f*c*ers.! And I say that as a person who has lost family in the line of duty. The guys are mostly ok... but the Sherrifs and County Atty dont back em. Kinda ties an officers hands when he is in the feild if he fears not being backed if he makes a call.

  I see that handgun registration law finally got tossed too... what a nifty way to waste $5 bucks and 2 trips to the police station.

  I transfered my sons collection of handguns to him when he was 19... out of 5 guns ... 2 of then did not show up in the data base... and the clerk told me that happened all the time. So much for a system to fight crime!

  depends on the state..

  Michigan would require you to retreat from a full- on assault...if you could retreat safely. You would be charged if you used deadly force to defend property.

  States like Florida base laws on the Castle Doctrine... if you come into my home uninvited to steal or harm me... take your chances I can use deadly force if needed to defend live and property.

  Texas will allow deadly force in defense of property.

  WHY don't Americans realize GUNS are destroying their country?

  usa today everyone has a gun, why?.....to protect themselves...from who?

  other folks with guns!.....yes it's in your laws...but they were written when the british ruled you.

  one school gun killing every week does not happen anywhere else in the world....maybe you need more guns to protect your kids.....one in the lunchbox.....does anyone else see this.

  we call the cops too... it's the law. and after we defend our families we get to go through the whole Grand Jury deal... even if we dont get charged we usually meet the crooks great and loving extended family that wants to sue us in civil court because the criminal income is no longer there to feed and support his family... right down to second cousins.

  After all ...little Sara Lou will need some bucks to go off to Crack Whore finishing school.

  In my county.. if you call the cops you wait on hold... then it's a 20 minute ride from where they are to where they need to be. They wont do much after the fact unless the victim is dead.

  Even with all that going for us we rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

  Machine guns are legal ...but taxed. Matter of fact a machine gun has not been used in a crime since the 30's in the USA.

  Get your hyperbole straight.

  I am planning to discharge a weapon later today. Walk right out back into the 180 acres behind the house and see how many times I can hit a 3 inch dot from 200 yards ... it's legal for me to do so. Problem is I own several (legal) weapons that can handle the chore... decisions decisions

  I dont think anyone will shoot back... matter of fact I have not been shot back at for years.

  for every US shooting that makes the papers or news...especially in your neck of the wood several people stopped a crime of saved themselfs from harm with a legal firearm that day.

  Tidwater News 8/13/08 ..Armed man catches prowler with stolen gun and long criminal record as the criminal ransacks his home.

  Did you note the operative words... "criminal" and "stolen"?

  Sacremento Bee 9/10/08 Shotgun armed home man defends children and pregnant wife from a multi person home invasion team. The invaders were armed... one of them ended up dead and the others fed the scene

  Troup County News, La Grange GA 8/15/08 Barking dog awakens Baptist minister who awakens to find a man with a brick beating on the house. Of course the narcotics-charged crazed person feels the need to enter the house...so our Minister freind convinces him to lay on the floor for police by holding him at bay with a large bore revolver. The police ended up tazing the suspect to take him into custody.

  The Morning Call Allentown PA 8/28/08 Man held up loading car in grocery store lot. Robbers gets antzy..fires a shot the misses by sprays victim with broken glass... victim (legal ccw holder) draws and returns fire wounding crook. Victim safely retreats into store and police catch the wounded crook.

  Bradenton Herald Bradenton FL 9/14/08 Legal CCW holder is robbed by two maked men with rifles. Victim sees a hesitation and seizes the inititive..draws his .45 auto and fires 8 shots. He wounds one suspect and both suspect flee.

  Presque Isle MI , The County Advance 8/28/08 16 year old masked kid breaks and enters home... Citizen wakes up to find kid stealing wallet...so he produced a gun ...forces kid to sit on the toilet until police arrive.

  I tender the notion that guns are not destroying the country. I tender the notion that a lack of values and acceptance of poor parenting and the acceptace of poor moral performance is destroying our country...probably yours too.

  Canada the UK and Austraila have basically turned they countries in camps of sheep. The wolves still prowl and your sheepdogs are is short supply. I wont even comment on the wave of sword and knife crime in the UK the last few years... it sounds sarcastic when I talk about it.

  just from a purely selfish standpoint, i would be grateful if the 500 pound passenger next to me were able to occupy 2 seats, rather than being wedged into 1 (and spilling over the sides)..

  Hmmm... your position is flawed here: some joints sell two burgers for the same price as some joints sell one. IF your price is one burger for $2.00, well, okay. If MY price is TWO burgers for $2.00... well, then, I'm offering my customers a better deal. Especially if my customer is hungrier than yours and especially if the burgers are the same size. Truth is, you could probably AFFORD to sell 2 for one... but can't bring yourself to lose the extra two bucks~guest

  If a resturant (or any business) has a 2/1 special two things are probably thought out... we made a deal to cover the cost of selling you "2 for 1" ...we are only gonna do that for a limited time and we are gonna make up any shortage on the 2/1 items by upselling or getting you to add to the order with some items that offer a better profit margin.

  A guest... there aint no free lunch baby.

  STC's... on those light pudknocker airpaines you find alternator belts and alternators and other partslike seat belts etc. that LOOK just like the ones on a car. Because they ARE... except for the FAA numbers on them. The extra documentation needed to get a FAA number and acceptance of the part will triple the cost... and if you get caught without the FAA approved part installed the fines are expensive.

  We dont hate fat people... and those tall folks grimmace when they sit in those average spaces too. I await the NBA players to file a class action suit forthwith.

  This issue still is should I give you 2 spots for 1 just because YOU DONT FIT THE SPACE.

  Since when is a christian supposed to be concerned with physics? But, okay, let's look at it: an airplane has, say, a 35,000 lb. passenger weight capacity (hypo, folks - I have no idea what the weight limit is). As a result, they can fly either 3,500 100lb skinny people... or 100 350 lb people. Or a mix. They can make more money flying the 100 lb folks, of course, and so, they place seats accordingly.

  As a Christian myself I am very concered about physics. A God of Order has put some universal truths in place..that can be defined with math... that if ignored, will kill me

  Business... the airline doesnt know what that mix of skinny and big people will be until they show up in the lobby to load the plane. They assume that just about everyone will fit the seat... and they would like to push off the gate with every seat full (it's not a non-profit enterprise ya know). if we have an extra seat thats good for the customer (and bad for the airline)

  So.. how could I resonably expect the correctly configured aircraft to show up at anyone of the dozens of possible terminals? Do I ask you how much you weigh before I sell the ticket?

  What happens if too many big folks show up for the bonus seating? At some point just about any social reason we could argue comes off as not compassionate.

  And as Mustang pointed out... the Pilot in Command of that Aircraft has the last call. He could put the folks off the flight if necessary.

  Again the issue in the lead post was not how fat somebody is.. but are they entiltled to whatever space they need for one fare? To say that they are ... well, do I give everyone at my resturant 2 burgers for one price..just because they can eat them? No... you pay for what you eat... and dont go into make the burgers the 'right size" either. It just doesnt make sense...if you want or need 2 ... we expect to buy 2 burgers.

  We cry because we don't have enough people in our life... and then call down fire and brimstone on one poor person who touches our personal space for a couple/few hours. Good lordy.

  No... I think the point just about anyone but you gets in this discussion is ...if you dont fit the seat buy 2. Or rent a car and drive.

  It's pretty simple... the Canadian govt says giving a person who cant fit in 1 seat 2 seats for the same money. So move to Canada... they have a heart, lots of blue tarps and duct tape... Red Green lives there and they like mayonaise. Lot's of guys named Gordon live there and they are all polite.

  Six...should I expand your idea here? Are you saying that you might switch teams for a guy like Warren Buffet.

  As many times as I have taken one "up the chute" for free over the years ... well I bet I could handle one of those old guys for a month or two for $300 million or so....

  a guest... I work with those bucket trucks in the utility business...they have weight limits.

  Most come in at around 400 pounds or so. Would it be wrong to deny promotion to a big, large or heavy person who would be over the limit for the equipment I own? Or should I be required to accomodate those people with mandated higher capacity equipment.

  You keep turning this into a matter of folks not having Christian compassion and being small hearted... I argue that its a matter of simple physics.

  (be careful with your answer... I can cite a court ruling)
