Linguistics misunderstanding - please help.
by hotspur inmaybe it's a "common people separated by a common language" thing but i really don't get this.. .
many times i see somebody posting about something that irks them and they say "i could care less.
" but they use it in such a way as to infer they're not really bothered by it all.. .

Ok.... so from here on in we're talkiing semantics?
Less tends to suggest more so 'care' is quantified. Therefore I struggle with the non-quantative form of 'care'. In otherwords, I'm having to make an assumption based on context.
Still, never mind - sorted for the most part. Substantially it's the same both sides of the pond.
Thanks.
Now all we have to do is to reduce your national election campaign to the six weeks or so we have here compared to your 12 months!

And that that is right? ;-) LoL
Ok... so we're getting somewhere. It's only bothered me a little but I've really started to question whether the poster could or could not care less. So, this brings us to where we are now.

My problem is in the UK we say, "I couldn't care less." To my mind this makes more sense. The inference being it would be impossible to care any less than they already are. The other statement suggests they care to some degree so therefore it would be possible to "care less".
So, please help me understand this. Am I missing something here?Incidentally, I've never seen a North American use the phrase "couldn't care less" (or if they have I've missed it).

I would say you have a hardware problem, usually the motherboard/BIOS/memory.
The machine can't output to the VDU so, instead conveys information to you via coded beeps!
So, small penis and low intellect is not far off the mark :)

Speaker prompts for Questions - true story
by hotspur inat certain points throughout the talk "cues" were to be given by the speaker so that preset questions could be asked by nominated 'brothers".
all well and good - no problem until..... .
..... bro x is found fast asleep in the audience.

Actually, it was all pre-arranged. At certain points throughout the talk "cues" were to be given by the speaker so that preset questions could be asked by nominated 'brothers". All well and good - no problem UNTIL....
..... bro X is found fast asleep in the audience. So the speaker back tracks a bit to redeliver the cue. No response - still asleep. This went on 3 times but nothing would wake him from his slumbers.
Now the speaker asks the person sitting next to the sleeper if he could be woken.
"No, I don't think so. You sent him to sleep - you wake him up" -

Re-instatement
by hotspur incan anybody show me in any bible that, to be re-instated, i need to humiliate myself for at least 6 months?.
what's that all about?
in fact, that is high my list of 1001 reasons i'd never go back!.

I think, too, it's more a question of controlling the cong. Let them have the fear of "this is what happens if you don't tow the line. Do you really want to be rejected by your family, etc.? This is what shunning means to 'sinners'." They are also looking to see if the rank and file will play ball and ignore you also. A reminder for everyone to do what they are told without question.
T he whole thing stinks .... certainly not a loving provision! What angers me even more is the fact to go back you must correct your wrong course. So, I've married the delightful lady I was living with, therefore the 'wrong' has been righted. Why do I (if I EVER wanted to go back) have to apply (formally) to be re-instated and then have to live this period of contrition?

I don't - I really don't. Just wanted to highlight what a non-sensical set of rules 7 million people seem to want to live by!

Please help. What's the new P.O. called?
by 5thGeneration inare there any active publishers that can tell me what they call the coordinator of the body of elders?.
does the congo still call him the 'p.o'?
or do they actually call him the cobe?.
-

You can call him anything you want - he won't hear you.
In my experience they were pretty much deaf to voice of the sheep!

Thanks for your responses - pretty much the same conclusions I'd come to but some interesting extras.
I spoke to mum about this (when she was talking) and she went VERY quiet when confronted with the "prodigal son"
I was disfellowshipped for living with my now wife -so what gives? I've undone the "The Sin". I really couldn't go back even if I wanted to humiliate myself.
Pharisees or Parasites? Maybe both - LoL
