JW Children: Feeling alone and sad
by Gopher infriday many american schools recited the pledge of allegiance to the nation's flag simultaneously, at 2pm eastern time (8am in hawaii).
to be sure, the pressure on children of jw's was great because of the nationalistic feelings that have swept america in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks.. should jw parents simply have removed their children for that afternoon?
or perhaps armed them with a better explanation (about why they won't say the pledge) then "it's because of my religion"???.

The BIBLE Saves! Here's proof
by Gopher infrom the ap newswire north fort myers, fla. -- a mother allegedly shot dead her 6-year-old son sunday but a shotgun blast intended for his 16-year-old brother was absorbed by the teen-ager's bible, police said.. leslie ann wallace, 39, was later shot by sheriff's deputies and hospitalized in critical condition.. authorities said wallace shot her son james wallace at home, then drove to her family's church where she fired her shotgun at 16-year-old kenneth wallace as he stood outside.. the blast, fired at close range, struck his bible and the overcoat he was carrying.
kenneth wallace's arm had minor scratches.. ``the bible certainly saved his life,'' said lee county sheriff's deputy larry king.
``had his bible not been in the way he would have sustained the brunt of the blast and very well could have died from that type of injury.''.

No Internet for Afghan Muslims
by Gopher inanother religious group is now attempting to restrict internet usage by its members.
this news item appeared today (friday july 13).. afghanistan's ruling taliban movement has banned the use of the internet in the war-torn country to stop access to vulgar, immoral and anti-islamic material, an afghan news service said on friday.. the pakistan-based afghan islamic press (aip) quoted taliban foreign minister maulvi wakil ahmad muttawakil as saying the movement was not against the internet as such but was opposed to obscenity, vulgarity and anti-islamic ``stuff'' on it.. ``we want to establish a system in afghanistan through which we can control all those things that are wrong, obscene, immoral and against islam,'' he said.. the ban also applies to government departments, aip said.. it was not immediately known how many people or offices use the internet in a country in which infrastructure is in ruins because of more than two decades of war.
there are not many computers and most of areas do not have electricity.. those who can afford to, including foreign aid agencies, log onto the internet through the few telephone lines provided by neighboring pakistan.
