  when i commented on the case of the canadain sextuplets i referred to an essay of two german jw attorneys, armin pikl (jw lawyer) and gajus glockentin (bethelite) from the year 1998. i turned some pages and came across another remarkable statement.

  the statement on page 30 deals with the accusation that jw would tell their members to break professional descrition.

  when i was recently in the us, i was asked if it was true that we put a pickle/cucumber in our christmas tree for the kids to search for.. the answer was: no, and hardly anyone in germany has ever heard about that custom.. the truth is that some people from the us do this believing it to be a german tradition.

  The statement on page 30 deals with the accusation that JW would tell their members to break professional descrition. It reads (translation mine):

  CC) Jehovah's Witnesses requested to break "professional descrition"?
  
  [...]In iurisdiction and theory it is recognized that the protection of secrets does not represent absolute right [...] There could be e.g. be the theoretically designed situation that someone in the medical sector gets to know of a case of sexual child abuse, whereby the obvious danger exists that still further acts with the endangerment of further children can happen. Indisputably the person has the right to initiate measures on the part of the youth welfare office and the law for the protection of the children . In addition, it must be possible for that person to informi the responsible persons in the surrounding of the child in order to protect thereby the child against further abuse. Some time ago, there were criminal determinations against a certain church due of cases of child abuse through clergymen. According to reports, they had failed to intervene to avoid further damage.

  They stated that exceptions like that one are meant when WT literature talks about the necessity to maybe break professional descrition.

  It is really very disturbing that the German branch wrote this in 1998 and starting 2001 silentlamb started to uncover the same things within in the JW movement and proved that they, too, did fail to intervene. And last year, they tried to relie on their "descrition" as clericals to avoid making child abuse cases public.

  This is all so sick.

  ok, some of you may be sick of these personality type issues but here goes.. i've noticed that whenever these topics come up, nf's and nt's come out of the woodwork.

  in case you didn't know, these are the minority of the geneal population.

  in a random setting you will have only 2 to 5% of n's (infp, infj,enfp,enfj,intp,intj,entp,entj).

  Why is Europe more liberal then the United States?

  i have wondered this for awhile and can not figure out why.

  any ideas?

  apparently being liberal does not lead to an economic power house, but it does lead to a lot of hatred of the united states in these countries.

  goshen a hamlet of wallkill man who was convicted in a non-jury trial last fall for trying to lure boys to engage in sexual activity was sentenced in orange county court monday to two to six years in state prison.. jesus cano, 50, who was a clergyman with the jehovahs witnesses, was sentenced for the felonies of attempted use of a child in a sexual performance and attempted promotion of a sexual performance by a child.. cano was charged with driving around the city of middletown last summer, handing out packets to boys with nude photos of himself, his phone number and other information.. when middletown police arrested him, they found a video camera in his car which a tape that was shot inside a mens room at ohare airport in chicago.. .

  What does "two to six years" mean? I would expect either a two years sentence or a six years sentence. I am not used to that expression.

  When we say "I'm proud of you" are we elevating ourselves above others?

  i don't mean when we as parents tell our children we're proud of them for a certain accomplishment or approved behavior; but when one adult tells another adult "i'm proud of you for (doing this or that)", possibly implying that in our opinion the approved action should have been done sooner, are we elevating ourselves above them?

  could it even be a left-handed compliment?

  as in "im proud that you've stopped beating your wife.

  Would you say it to your boss or rather hear it from your boss? That would be an indication if you pose yourself above someone by saying it. In German, we hardly say that in a business relationship.

  While I tend to agree with Double Edge I would like to comment on the quote

  Europe in general do not hate the US. One some topics we agree, on others we disagree. That's it. You as a country are so full of yourself that you feel every disagreement is hatred. You may see hatred in some contries but that is not Europe.

  I was in the US last week. I had this conversation with a guy who was also sure that all the German are against the US. He was not even aware that our current chancellor is a conservative that gets really well along with Bush.

  In his view the reason was that all the country see politics just from a national viewpoint while the US has the international view. To me that is BS.
