i was raised a witness, and i was always told that demons were everywhere.

i was told that if you let your mind open to "wrong" thinking that demons will invade you and take over.

and just about anything could get you demonized.

Scootergirl - I am also drawn to the paranormal. Anything I can find on the subject fascinates me. I'm sure it's because I was forbidden from 'touching the unclean thing' as a JW. Now, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favorite shows and I'm a Harry Potter freak. LOL! My Mother is sooo hesitant to look at my bookshelf when she visits.

Lisa - You reminded me of something I hadn't thought of in years. When I was a teenager, a family member made my little sister one of those life-sized Raggedy Ann-esque dolls. It was so beautiful and looked professionally made. My sister fell in love with that doll and kept it in a place of pride in her bedroom for years...until one day my Mom was watching Hard Copy (Yeah, I know...no Bewitched, but Hard Copy is fine!) and they showed a report about some museum of the supernatural somewhere in the middle of nowhere. They had a doll that looked exactly like my sister's. This one was in a locked case because it had allegedly killed several small children. That doll immediately went into my sister's closet and I haven't seen it since. LOL!

finnrot - I know exactly what you are talking about. My Mother instilled such a fear of demons in me that I was terrified to even think about the possibility that the might exist. I also remember hearing the story about the young brother going to see a 'demonized' movie, but in the version I heard it was "The Exorcist." To this day, I am drawn to that movie like a moth to a flame. I've never actually even worked up the courage to see it and I'm 30 now! I've rented it a few times, watched about 45 minutes of it and then just have to turn it off.

I don't know if it's possible to be a fundamentalist JW, but my Mom was definitely one. She wouldn't allow Bewitched on the television...period! It's so funny because Bewitched was forbidden, but I Dream of Jeannie was alright. I guess genies are ok, but witches are out! LOL!

Treating the pioneers "Just So."

i was reading jjrizo's thread about elders who take advantage of the kh, and i had a memory i'd like to share.

all my life growing up i had heard about how "jehovah takes care of those who put kingdom interests first.

" and all of those experiences on the platform about getting an envelope "with the exact rent amount due the day before we were to be evicted" and so on.

The COs in my area weren't ever put up by local families, either. They all had travel trailers or RVs which would be parked at the side of the Hall and connected to the power and water. They were incredibly funny about letting anyone inside those trailers, as I remember. Being a youngster, this made them the most desirable location on the entire planet.

In all my years as a Witness, I do remember one CO and his wife who were the most loving, generous couple I have ever had the fortune to meet, Witness or not. Their last name was Vigg. They left our circuit over fifteen years ago and I still remember the lovely speech he gave at the get-together thrown for him and his wife. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when he finished speaking. I often wonder what ever became of them.

Sabine - Your story brought tears to my eyes. I'm thankful that you were able to spend some quality time with him before his passing. You shouldn't have felt guilty about the trust funds, though. It just proves how much he loved you and your children.
