How to Know God - Stage 1
by eyeslice ini wouldn't say that i was the greatest fan of deepak chopra though i have read a couple of his books.
i am never very comfortable with people who base most of their ideas on anecdotes and quaint stories, but nevertheless some of his ideas are, shall we say, interesting.
in his book, how to know god, he expounds his view that there are 7 levels at which people can come to know god, even though he unable to say who or what this god is.

Charity and the WTBTS?
by eyeslice inthe society appears to sit on assets worth millions but does anyone know if they ever give money away in the form of unconditional charity from their own coffers?.
i know for instance that the south african branch has sent relief aid to other parts of africa and the german branch has sent aid to eastern europe but can anyone say exactly where the money came from?
was it raised by special appeals to the congregations, thus not having coming directly from their own precious central funds?.

Money and happiness?
by eyeslice ineveryone in the truth, knows it is the "love of money", not money itself that is wrong.
i am well aware that money in itself does not bring happiness.. what i detect though amongst the witnesses is almost an antipathy to money and wealth.
one sister i was speaking to the other day complained about all the spending that goes on at xmas.

How will you find happiness?
by eyeslice inin the truth, happiness is equated with a stable family life, a hope for the future and working for the cause.. i still believe the same, just may be the cause isnt the same any more.

Kids answers at the meetings
by eyeslice inmy guess is that most young kids are bored sick at the meetings.
the light relief for them comes however, when their parents prod them in the ribs and give them an answer.
these usually consist of the jehovah, jesus, etc.

Your funeral arrangements?
by eyeslice inthough hopefully i am not planning on dying at the moment, but time and unforeseen circumstances can catch up with us all.. previously, i had an elder who is a gentle and kind person lined up to handle my memorial should the need arise.. however, now that i am no longer fully in as it were, i not sure what instructions i should give to my family should the worst arise.
i can hardly says what i really want is an anglican service or contact the local buddhists.. anyone else thought about this and come to any conclusions?

12-24-02 Book Study - Pot calling the Kettle Black
by eyeslice inthe two "get out of jail cards" that the society plays when explaining away failed predictions are:
god's prophecies are never wrong, its just our interpretation, let's wait a while and when things are clearer we'll tell you in retrospect what the prophecy really was.
we never actually said that, it was the rank and file, they got over excited.

The Thread that "kills" the WTS
by eyeslice inmany opinions have been expressed on this board as to what is killing the society today.
i am positive that issues such as the un scandal, the pedophile issue, etc.
are having a negative effect and contributing to a general slackening off and sense of malaise amongst the rank and file.

Are the F&D Slave and the Evil Slave the same?
by eyeslice ini had a look at a thread started by veniceit yesterday, then followed a link to her story, and from something she wrote there, i have been re-reading matthew 24:45-50.. .
the society has really taught that there are in effect two separate "slave" classes; the faithful and discreet slave "class" and the evil "slave" class.
they teach that the "evil slave" originates from the single "faithful slave" by becoming apostate.. .

Help on translation of Lord/Jehovah in NWT
by eyeslice ini am having great trouble with distinguishing between where the nwt refers to jehovah in the nt and where it should really read lord meaning, not god, but the lord; jesus.
the problem comes to light in a passage quoted in this weeks watchtower study.. the passage in question was romans 14:8, though you really have to read verse 9 as well to a better flavour of what paul was talking about.. in the nwt, the passage reads;.
9. for to this end christ died and came to life again, that he might be lord over both the dead and the living.. other translations, which do not attempt to substitute gods name, render the passage along the lines of;.
