LDB and I went to the Hawthorne race track one!!! It was miserably hot. I was about 3-4 months pregnant at the time and thought I was going to hurl about 80% of the time. But being a good witness, I stuck it out until Sunday around lunch time. I couldn't take it anymore and we left. That was AWFUL!!!

Does anyone need any JW books, brochures, etc.?
by exwitless inwe have a bunch of books that are wasting a lot of valuable bookshelf space: songbooks (the gold ones), nwts, the jw history book, insight on the scriptures, and most of the little dumb books.
we also have a few brochures, tracts, and some kingdom ministry brochures called "the new millennuim - what does the future hold".
we have the entire bible on cassette tape, the wt library 2000 on cd, and lots of other stuff.. someone was asking on another thread about the old school brochure.

We have a bunch of books that are wasting a lot of valuable bookshelf space: songbooks (the gold ones), NWTs, the JW history book, insight on the scriptures, and most of the little dumb books. We also have a few brochures, tracts, and some Kingdom Ministry brochures called "The New Millennuim - What Does the Future Hold". We have the entire bible on cassette tape, the WT library 2000 on CD, and lots of other stuff.
Someone was asking on another thread about the old school brochure. We don't have one, sorry.
Please, if anyone wants any of it, let me know. Otherwise, Little Drummer Boy and I will have a nice colorful bonfire.

Sorry to hear about your dad. It makes it harder when your mom is being cold to you. Hang in there and be there for both of them.

No DC next year, last DC?
by doinmypart ina relative said there may not be dcs next year.
he said on the last day of this year's dc when the final speaker goes through all the reports & experiences, the speaker said next year's dc have not been planned yet and the gb will make an announcement later this year.

Is there a comet approaching? Perhaps they are spending the money on triangular shaped purple sheets and cyanide?
Jeff, you forgot about the black velcro shoes!!
Anyway, my very 1st DC was the very last 4 day one (that I know of). It was in 1993. When they said they would probably be 3 day ones from then on, people theorized this was somehow a "sign of the approaching end." Well, here we are, 13 years later, and the WT continues to revel in their smugness to try to hype people up about how "Jehovah's work is nearing completion."
It's pathetic how much JW's thrive on the bait that the governing body dangles out in front of them, just to give the appearance that they know something about "the ever-impending, any day now beginning of the end" that the common dub doesn't.

"But what do i tell the friends?"
by zack inso three weeks ago my wife and i had an emotional discussion wherein i finally told her that this religion was not the truth.
there was much emotion, a chill has ensued in our relationship.
(i haven't been to a meeting in 4 months now, and have not reported time in two months) i am sure many of you know the drill.. towards the end of our conversation, she asks: but what do i tell the friends when they ask about you?.

Take the pressure off of your wife about what she should tell her "friends": If they ask how you are or if they tell her to tell you hello, instruct her to say, "That's nice, but I'm sure he'd rather hear it directly from you." Then she doesn't have to offer any explaination about you. The flip side of it is: You have to be prepared to answer them. My guess is they won't go to the trouble of calling you to ask. Your wife is a convenience. They can ask her about you and clear their consciences and forget about you, without having to deal with you personally.

Sister/Brother *** is disfellowshipped for.....
by Bonnie_Clyde inin the 1950's i remember they used to say what they were disfellowshipped for, whether it be fornication, stealing, etc.
then it was disfellowshipped for "loose conduct", then "conduct not becoming a christian.
" then it was simply "disfellowshipped" or "disassociated.

I remember as recently as about 5-10 years ago, they would say 'so-and-so has been disfellowshipped for conduct unbecoming of a Christian' or 'so-and-so has disassociated himself from the Christian congregation and no longer wishes to be recognized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.'
Of course, the comment about 'conduct unbecoming of a Christian' would always get the gossipy people talking. It always made people assume the worst (i.e. adultery, fornication, etc.).

Musical Dishonesty - What next?
by hillary_step inone of the saddest and imho dishonest introductions into the popular music world in recent times is the processor introduced by antares called 'auto-tune'.. this combination of hardware and software processes the music, and especially the vocals of musicians, to automatically correct the tuning for example, of voices which cannot hold a note or sing in tune and does so in virtually real-time.
it is used by a growing number of vocalists who are untrained and cannot sing in tune and allows them to parade on stage as if they were note perfect.. numerous amateur and professional performers alike have decided that autotune is one way that removes the need for talent or hard work and have no issue with dishonestly representing themselves as long as the cash flows.
it is set to become standard equipment on tour.. i cannot help but feel that we have lost something big along the way.. hs.

No comments on my suggestion for pedagogical use?
Yes, I absolutely think using something like autotune for teaching purposes would be helpful for many people learning to sing (although this is not the subject of debate on this thread). Even without having something like autotune, the tool of simple recording is enormously helpful. Although it is a punch in the gut to one's opinion of their own singing, speaking from personal experience, the teaching value of hearing one's own voice from a recording is immesurable. Having Autotune might be useful for those who can't seem to correct his/her own pitch alone.

If a piece of music moves me, if it makes me feel goosebumps, or resonates with with my life experience, musically and/or lyrically- that's good music.
If no one else gets it or appreciates it, it matters not to me.
I love music, both recorded and live.
Is it possible to demystify art to such a degree that it loses it's beauty?
Exactly, nvrgnbk! I couldn't agree more.
