You are so right, Dear Poppers, it was time to see that again.
What a great metaphor!
I have another metaphor for you, that a friend just shared with me. He read it in "Pass The Jelly; Tales of Ordinary Enlightenment" by Gary Crowley, in which the narrator makes witty Zen observations as he wanders through his day. The narrator has a discussion with some Jehovah's Witnesses who came to his door. He tells them, "It seem to me you folks are worshiping the teapot instead of drinking the tea". I love that.
Love,
Baba. -

I'm glad my children don't have to grow up being afraid of cupcakes
by Ilovebirthdays inyesterday, i brought a batch of cupcakes to my son's school.
in passing them out, i started to give one to one of the children, who was a jw.
he immediately started freaking out and screaming "no thank you" over and over.

Okay, well... your two short stories brought a tear to my eyes... but I just have to tell you that your thread headline is just about the best ever.
I'm glad we're not afraid of cupcakes anymore, too. So very, very glad.
Love,
Baba. -

Lovely, Sylvie! Reminds me of the Rogers & Hammerstein's song from Cinderella:
In My Own Little Corner
I'm as mild and as meek as a mouse
When I hear a command I obey.
But I know of a spot in my house
where no one can stand in my way.
In my own little corner in my own little chair
I can be whatever I want to be.
On the wings of my fancy I can fly anywhere
and the world will open its arms to me.
I'm a young Norwegian princess or a milkmaid
I'm the greatest prima donna in Milan
I'm an heiress who has always had her silk made
By her own flock of silkworms in Japan
I'm a girl men go mad for love's a game I can play with
cool and confident kind of air.
Just as long as I stay in my own little corner
All alone in my own little chair.
I can be whatever I want to be.
I'm a slave from Calcutta I'm a queen in Peru.
I'm a mermaid dancing upon the sea
I'm a huntress on an African safari.. it's a dangerous type of sport and yet it's fun
In the night I sally forth to seek my quarry
And I find I forgot to bring my gun.
I am lost in the jungle all alone and unarmed when I meet a lioness in her lair
Then I'm glad to be back in my own little corner,
All alone in my own little chair. -

Sylvie said:
I'm sure he has no idea how much his beautiful words and gentlemanly bearing helped me through my ups and downs and crazy turns-around, but helped me they did!
The carefully crafted sentences that flowed from his gifted heart and pen were like balm from Gilead to my boisterous soul. I would read his works and immediately a stillness would creep into my anxious mind.
It is said by some that when the student is ready, a teacher will appear. Thank you, my teacher, for touching me and teaching me in such a winsome manner.
Yours in gratitude forever.

Very, very sad. Frustrating, disconcerting, heartbreaking.
