A Radical Future Without Armageddon
by metatron inhuman society is so focused on the present that clear thinking about the future can be difficult.
it's often easier to simply write off the future.
by believing in armageddon ( if you're religious) or some catastrophe like global warming, errant nukes, or an uncharted asteroid ( if you're.

Somce cornucopians hypothesize that a time will come when a technological explosion will initiate a radical break from the past. They call this the "Singularity". The more prominent ones (Kurzweil et al) think it will happen in the first half of this century and that after this "all bets are off".

Opinion peice on Athiests
by SickofLies inthere seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.
well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.
to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.

According to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it represents the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
And if some of your recent posts are to be accepted at face value, there is a possibility of 1 that there is a universe out there where this is true! I hear Frankie and Benjy are still looking.

Tool - Lateralus Lyrics
Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
As we loathe, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As we loathe, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind.Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human. With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out.
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.Spiral out. Keep going...

I'm beginning to think BTS is just a good old-fashioned yanker-of-the-chain.
You just have a hard time categorizing me.
Cheers.

Hi WLG.
If you like Alex Grey, you'll love this site. I first encountered the art from Tool album art some years ago.
Personally I like it and my beliefs run along the same lines, basically that we are all the same thing, connected yet with the illusion of being seperate. The same guy who designed your avatar does his work while under the influence or immediately after ingesting salvia divinorium, a hallucinagen used by shamens for elightenment. Salvia trips usually include some visions like your avatar, your body turns into eyes, which supposedly symbolize the "eyes" we have through our nerves in our body, which can be trained to feel even more than the tiny sensations we all are used to as kids.
If what you say you beleive is true, it is an interesting paradox and I wonder how you reconcile the two.
Salvia. Beautiful.... beautiful. And legal in Florida!
Salvia trips don't last long, which is great for a beginner.
It seems to me that all the great truths are paradoxical on lower levels.
Cheers,
Burn.

Orthodox, Catholic, Agglican, under the same roof...
by justhuman ini don't know if this is happening in other places, but here is a great example how can christian churches co-exist under the same roof.. this church is 900 years old.
and stands at a place were a basilica(an architectual term for the byzantine early churches was build in 340 a.d. the oldest relic of the early church in the island.
unfortunately it was destroyed by an earthquake.

Interesting!
I believe that some of the Christian holy sites in Israel are administered in a similar fashion.
Here's for ecumenicalism!

I don't know anything about that. Any chance of some evidence?
Have they had you locked in a dark closet for the last 10 years? Or are you just stalling?
and
Here, in your own country's media!
Honestly, google it, there is so much material on the subject you will retch at the conclusions: Your secularly-induced enervation is destroying you. You cut off your roots then you wonder why your leaves shrivel. Atheism is making inroads here in my home country too, only not as far along. Since you have lost sight of eternity, and since the natural reaction to that is to "eat drink and be merry for tommorrow we'll die", you've become a weak tribe. You've had to import labor from the south and east to replace your low birth rates. Continue on your path, and you'll never have to worry about Christianity again! What progeny escapes your abortion factories will be forced to bow to Mecca under threat of the sword.
It's a lack of belief, not a gene that's not getting passed on.
You spout Dawkins yet you don't get it? Its not the genetics, its the memetics. And ideas affect behavior. The stronger ideas prevail. Atheism produces weak tribes. Weak tribes die out.

When people come and try and argue that 'you cannot disprove god' the reason no one takes them seriously is because they are not trying to make an impartial statement about some possible unknowable being, they are in fact arguing for a very specific god with very testable claims about who he is and what he has done or can do. Yet these cowards are two afraid to come out and say what they really believe because even they know how idiotic it sounds.
Sick, (and I do think you are SickOfLies, only not in the manner you think)
Just you don't have to make any accusations (and if my spelling is poor blame it on the Scotch). I am not making any impartial claims about an unknowable being. My claims are very partial! I am speaking about a very specific God! As for the testability of claims, what testability do you seek? Science only concerns itslef--only can concern--itself with the natural realm. But God is not of this realm, he is of the supernatural realm. Science and reason can point us in his direction, but they cannot furnish proof. Therefore the knowledge accessible by science can not prove he exists. The proof I have presented on this thread (the Cosmological Argument) is philosphical, not scientific. To test the existence of God is to try to use a sledgehammer as a screwdriver, wrong tool for the job. As for calling me a coward, that is easy to do on an internet forum. This is what I believe (OMG you have really called me out!!), and it is not idiotic:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.Cheers,

have to press this for your children's sake, and you kinda left the private debate/chat we were having a while back. This religion seems to be what you need/want, and if so, good for you. But can you please allow your children to know about other beliefs, not just yours? I really don't think it would be fair on them to only know about what you believe. They're not you.
Hi Sero!
Can I take that to mean that as an atheist you will also educate your children in the glory and mystery and truth of the Christian religion! My I do believe I have underestimated you!
Unfortunately Atheists don't seem to procreate very well. The more secular/atheist a country is, the lower the birth rate is. I do believe Britain and W Europe are in the early stages of a rather steep demographic decline. Atheism appears to be an evolutionary dead end, hence the desire on their part to educate believers' children in their ideologies against their parents' will.
