Opinion peice on Athiests
by SickofLies inthere seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.
well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.
to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.

Thanks!
Its nice to see somebody on this thread doesn't hate my guts because I don't agree with them. But then I should have known this thread was going to be a landmine!

They Infiltrate Every Aspect of Ones' Life
by LouBelle inafter being out of that faith for about 2 years now, i look back and can't believe how they controlled so many aspects of my life.. we let them in and like a deadly disease they just spread and take over.. what we could and couldn't believe, who we could and couldn't associate with, not allowed to play sports, watch what close you were, don't make friends with that one, do this, don't do that, read this, answer this way, sell that mag, contribute to our fund, contribute to the magazines, contribute to building, give us your precious time and you get zippo for it.. and we let them!!!!.
man i'm so happy i'm out - not a day goes by that i don't celebrate my new life, my new friends, my new interests..

I look back at my childhood and young adulthood in the JWs and I can't help but feel a little sick sometimes. Even a little bitter.
But I feel much better now.

Hi Wanderlustguy.
I an only speak for myself here.
God made a huge planet, just an acre of which can tell you more about Him in a day than the rest of your life sitting in manmade buildings reading man written books and listening to men and women talk about Him.
I think we can learn from what we see in that acre you describe, and we can learn from each other. Thats why we get together. Thats why we are here on this forum isn't it? To share and learn from each other?
If you made a planet with people that you loved...would you rather they huddle together in a building they made and talk about you or be out learning from what you made for them?
We can do both! But I try not to huddle too much.
Maybe a larger question is why do you feel the need to have someone else tell you how you are supposed to feel about God?
I don't think it quite adds up to that, at least not for me. I think we are free to experience God. I find a religious service with others spiritually satisfying-for me.

In my opinion it is incredibly bad manners to refuse to answer an honest question and then fire off questions of your own.
Not if the question is designed to help you come to a conclusion or at least inform me as to what your thought process is so that I can give you a better answer. I didn't know you were so sensitive. But enough of that.
So are you going to have the decency to answer my question now?
Do you mean the question as to whether the universe had a natural or supernatural origin?
Supernatural.
Your previous statement:
What evidence would satisfy me? Enough empirical evidence for it to be no longer supernatural.
It seemed to me to be saying that no evidence could ever convince you of anything other than a natural origin.

So you're at "loggerheads...with Naturalists of the Spinozan bent" but you love Spinoza?
"Internally self contradictory"?
I read a biography of his a few months ago, and I have done some examining of his philosophy. I do not have to agree with all of his conclusions to admire his intellect and courage.
So no, not contradictory (in this case).

I've only been "out" of the JWs a few months. I still need to get around to a few more churches. I haven't been to Presbyterian yet (I have to Baptist though one of the ones in town has an excellent preacher), but I have enjoyed the variety of a few different ones here locally.I've noticed that there can be a noticeable difference between churches of even the same denomination. Either way, it feels wonderful to have the freedom to go where I wish on Sunday.
Bless you, Burn -

OK, now I get it (I think).
Yeah, females go for the "fittest". Males do too though.

Would Bigfoot Stomp Creationism?
by metatron ini suppose that any fact can be denied ( there's a hilarious scene in woody allen's "everything you ever wanted to know about sex".
in which a husband is oblivious to his wife's observation of his adultery).
however, i do wonder if they ever found a "bigfoot" body, would it.

I think FunkyDerek identifies why it would not be "game over".
Chappy highlights that there are different divisions in the Creationist camp (young earth vs old earth, theistic evolutionists, intelligent design etc), some affected by the discovery more than others.
It wouldn't make a difference to me, I'm Neanderthal.

Unless SickofLies protests, I think here is fine.
Maybe another time.
If you think that God as an impersonal force, at least you are in good company. I love that guy, do you know that he was shunned and kicked out of the Amsterdam Jewish community for apostasy? Very like the JW practice!
Cheers,
Burn.
