I had a 12 year old miniature schnauzer who got diabetes, he needed insulin 2x a day. I could not give him the shots, my hands shook too much. I was able, fortunately, to hire a tech through my vet clinic and she faithfully came over 2x a day - and arranged for coverage when she was on vacation - for the 13 additional months that Jocques lived after that. It's very difficult. In addition to the insulin, they need a special diet and it's very easy for the dog to go off of his or her food if you don't have it exactly right. I spent many hours cooking natural rice and ground beef drained 3 times with hot water to flush all the fat out. It's not easy taking care of a diabetic dog. I have heard that some younger dogs that get the disease can live for many years afterwards with careful regulation.

My journey so far, thoughts?
by WingCommander ini've been on here nearly 5-6 years (as you can see by my profile) but hardly ever post.
for years i was satisfied with reading your stories and commenting occasionally, all the while telling myself that i was still a dub and would never change.
at the beginning, i was really just curious and also wandering if people out there grew up like i did (in an orwellian hell), and had experienced what i had experienced.

Here I am again, a day late and a dollar short. Oh well. But for what it's worth, if you (or anyone else) reads this post, here's my advice: read "Your Erroneous Zones" - I believe it's by Dr. Dwayne Dwyer - I read it way back in the 70's and this book (along with a few others that aren't relevant here), changed my life. This book will SHOW you how people push the "guilt" buttons, etc. Reading it is like reading "Crisis of Conscience" by Ray Franz, once you've read it, you KNOW what's behind the curtain and you can train yourself to not do the Pavlov Dog response to the prior conditioning.
Hang in there, WingCommander. It WILL get better. Does your wife read here, by any chance? If not, perhaps this is something you could share with her - introduce us to her in a subtle kind of way, like leave a rose on her pillow with a little yellow stick-em tag attached with the url to this website (okay, not so subtle, I'm a direct kind of woman, myself!) Well, you told us she's not a JW or from a JW background, she might find some of the information here highly enlightening, and it could only help her to give you that much more support that you need during this difficult time.
I have a suggestion - it's corny and old as hell but hey, as they say, laughter is the bet medicine. If you want a laugh, I suggest you read my "Trip to the Dentist" thread - its here somewhere - damned if I know where, though! Posted within the last 30 days or so. This is not to make light of your present circumstances by any means, but I've often found that in my darkest hours, a good laugh just did wonders to helping my get out of a bad place.

One of my earliest memories - of my daddy coming home very late (he worked second shift, my mother worked first shift, to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads), and he got us kids out of bed. I was about 4, and there were my sisters, 2 1/2 and 1, and mom was pregnant with who turned out to be the 4th sister! It was winter, and cold, and very late, must have been midnight, but daddy got us all up anyway, and we were bundled up in clothes and blankets and put into the buggy - but not me, I was too big, so daddy carried me part of the way and we walked hand in hand the rest of the way. He walked us all down a few blocks away to a service station (gas station), and there they sold some christmas trees, and he bought one, small enough to carry back home to our rooming house apartment.
That's the very first christmas tree I remember. It was set, I remember, on top of a dress in the living room that also served as mom and dad's bedroom (a pull-out bed). I was born in 1951, so this would have been about 1956. Our family, along with millions of ex-GI families, were struggling to make ends meet, and producing child after child!

If one believes in equal rights for all as expressed in the U.S. Constitution, then yes, an adult person should not be prohibited by law from marrying another adult person just because of them being two men or two women. It is hypocritical to say that all people are equal under the law when some people are more "equal" than others when they want to marry each other. It wasn't THAT long ago, history wise, that some people were making the SAME KIND OF ARGUMENT about blacks being somehow less than human and therefore not deserving of being covered by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. That kind of logic reminds me of the hypocricy rampant in the WTBTS and I rejected all of that crap when I DA'd from the org.

DocBob, thanks so much for the information regarding the sale of 360 Furman Street for $205,000,000 - you confirmed that it wasn't an error what I had read back in the earlier posts. Only thing is, I'm not up to 2004 posts yet - not by a long shot - I'm still around Christmas, 2002! Perhaps the WT had been shopping the property around the market for awhile, and that is why the reports kept surfacing as far back as 2002. We may never know for sure.
I was able to dig around deeper today in ACRIS and learned how to navigate through it better. As a result, I discovered the deed for the sale of 360 Furman that was recorded on 7/13/04, sales price listed in ACRIS as $205,020,000.
Anitar, you are SO right. It is a dirty rotten shame that the rank and file won't listen to common sense.
Based on the information I was able to get from ACRIS today, below is a brand new table. WT has sold 3 properties in Brooklyn: (1) 360 Furman Streeet for $205,020,000; (2) 89 Hicks Street for $2,500,000; and (3) 108 Joralemon Street for $14,000,000. Those sales have grossed $218,520,000 between 7/13/04 and 7/25/06 (dates deeds were recorded). If it costs say $60,000,000 a year (just my estimate based on a recollection from one of my last annual reports in January WT that WT expended $50,000,000 during the year) to fund their operations here in the US, that money won't last more than 3.642 years. Hmmm...

Research on 360 Furman Street, done 10/25/06.
According to 1999 Assessor information (not confirmed for accuracy but per findings from USPDR.com) the assessed valuation was $13,752,000. Note 1999 date of assessment.
I haven’t been able to CONFIRM that 360 Furman was sold by WT to anyone or when such a sale took place. My searches thus far are obviously missing the point.
When I input the Borough/Block/Lot into ACRIS, I got no results for this property, which is very strange (?)(!). Also, I don’t understand why I can’t find a recorded deed for the sale of this property by WT. Too tired to think about the possible implications tonight or what I may not be doing right to search.
These articles indicate that there are big plans in the wings for 360 Furman Street, regardless of who owns the property:
http://www.brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/2005/07/luxury_conversi.html
As of July, 2005, ultra expensive condos were planned for this building: "The 12-story, 960,000-square-foot industrial building at 360 Furman Street on the Brooklyn Heights waterfront is on its way to fulfilling its inevitable destiny as, you guessed it, luxury condos. …"
Check this out – a line drawing of the riverfront of Brooklyn (across from lower east side of Manhattan), showing the site of 360 Furman Street, to be developed by 2007: (17.) One Brooklyn Bridge Park/360 Furman Street . Creative Design Associates, fall 2007,
http://nymag.com/realestate/features/2016/17145/index1.htmlAnd this article: http://www.therealdeal.net/issues/MAY_2006/1146523448.php river front development in Brooklyn: "A portion of the maintenance fee from every unit in 360 Furman, also called One Brooklyn Bridge Park, goes into the fund that supports operation of the park, estimated to run $15.2 million per year".

Is everyone accused guilty?
by hambeak ini have seen a lot of posts here that attack pedophiles and want open records which i agree with.
pedophiles are detestable and disgusting.. my question is don't you think some are wrongfully accused by some especially in child custody issues?
i know of some that were accused and arrested and in one case the mother in law and wife admitted in pre trial they made the whole thing up.

As I understand it, the WT database of 23,000 or so is of "accused" pedophiles - that is correct; being "accused" does not necessarily equate to guilty. However, since all of the names have been kept secret within the individual congregations throughout the years since the database has been compiled, there is absolutely no way of knowing whether any particular individual on the list is actually an innocent person or, on the other hand, a serial pedophile or, somewhere inbetween. Since the matters - again, as I understand it - for the most part, were NEVER turned over for proper investigation to the police/sheriffs/FBI, child abuse authorities, etc., we will never know. All we know if that, according to Barbara Anderson, there is a card file or list of all of these accumulated names from over the years.
I would like to know - has anyone accumulated a "count" of alleged pedophiles within the Roman Catholic Church, and other denominations where allegations of such conduct have been made? What would the relative ratios of allegations to congregants show, I wonder???

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY!
by Butters ini cannot believe what i saw happen today at the store.. i was at wal-mart browsing various electronics and digital cameras and such, when i heard behind me, "brother hardy, how are you!"...
first thing i thought was oh shit, they found me, and forgot my real name, or have me mixed up with someone else.. turns out, this disfellowshiped witness was there at the store and saw one of his congregation members there.
now i personally have never been part of the shunning process myself, but here i am, an ex-jw watching from the other aisle, a bunch of shit that i never thought i would see the lights of day on.... the brother, this "hardy" i guess, looked up at the man with a smile, but then when he realized who it was, he immediately frowned and started pushing his shopping cart away looking straight ahead and not even acknowledging the man... (here's where i jump in..).

Juni, I'm with you on this one. To me, making a marriage vow is something absolutely first class serious and is not something you screw around about lightly. Pardon my English. This is just my take on it: you're not just hurting yourself by going back on your word in forsaking marriage vows, you are also hurting another person to whom you also made those vows. So, it's not just between you and God(Goddess)(Whomever); by involving another person, you have that person's hurt/pain/sorrow/etc. on your own soul and heart. Whether you realize it, or not; whether you "accept" it is so, or not. It's there - it's like the biblical concept of blood guilt, but since you haven't (at least I hope not) caused a death, I call it heart guilt.

Hola!
I've been reading through old posts under "Friends" (part of my program to get familiar with you all) - am now up to 1515 or about. There were a number of posts about the sale of some property owned by WTBTS in New York - specifically, in Brooklyn, in some 2002 posts (sorry, did not write down the numbers). Anyway, this afternoon I had a few moments of spare time on my hands at the office and so I spent a little time doing a quicky search for real estate owned by WTBTS in Brooklyn. I'm curious mainly because I'm wondering what assets WT has available to liquidate to fund their retreat from New York City (first of all) and to fund possible future judgments against them from the various pending law suits (second of all). What follows, I hope, is my first table showing what I found:
List of Properties – Brooklyn Heights Subd. NY
Research as of 10/25/06
Information for this table primarily compiled from USPDR.com and a little info ACRIS.nyc.gov
Notes:
- Brooklyn Burrough is number 3 in NYC
- (R?) means property possibly razed
- (??) means year of sale not known
- (?) means not know if Watchtower was Buyer (B) or Seller (S)
- (???) means number address of property not listed

For Parcel in Brooklyn Burrough (Section 3), Block 245, Lot 12 (which is 360 Furman Street):
A Modification of Mortgage recorded 3/17/83 – indicates original mortgage amount is $3,948,513.22; $1,000,000 paid on the balance; also references a "First Mortgage" with Dime Savings Bank but does not indicate the amount of the first mortgage, so I do not know what the original purchase price was. ACRIS records did not reveal the mortgage to Dime Savings Bank.
Okay, there's a lot of INFO here to digest. Would appreciate some help with analysis and perhaps tracking down further info. I'm trying to get a handle JUST ON REAL ESTATE OWNED BY WT in and around New York City and an estimate of Fair Market Value.
Please note a couple of things: first, there were a couple of posts at least (again, I did not write their numbers down) that indicated that 360 Furman Street had been sold - some reports said for $20,000,000, I recall one report saying $200,000,000. Wow! Maybe that was an error? I'll see if I can find further information but would appreciate help here. Secondly, there was a post I recall reading from November or December, 2002 that said the Stanley Theatre (don't know location) had been sold for - don't quote me here - $30,000,000. I do not know if that property may be included in the table above.
Depending upon what you crackerjack sleuths out there can uncover based on what I've found thus far, I hope to generate further tables - or maybe you'll take pity on me and generate them yourselves (as you see from the above, I'm not so swift working with Tables, etc.).

Greetings, Qcmbr.
I'm not here to debate the dogma of the Mormons. Moshe used one point related to Mormon dogma as an example about how time and science have caught up to show the fault-lines in a particular religion's dogma, and I used the example by way of an anology to a situation that exists today in the WTBTS vis a vis their own faulty chronology. If you wish further information about the LDS that is not put out by the Church itself, I suggest visiting Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Mormon. I do not take anything posted at Wikipedia as truth, per se, but I have found information at Wikipedia to be an excellent starting point on which to embark upon further research.
