I found out sunday morning, then we went to the meeting. Everyone there knew, but no one could really say much about it- afterall, they thought she was bird food anyway. But I dunno, I could sense some people were keeping it in.

How accurate can the Bible really be?
by Snoozy inhow accurate can the bible really be?
i am losing faith that it is accurate at all.. according to an article i read in our paper today they are now saying in translation there are no english words to match every word...so the scripture that say "peace on earth and goodwill towards all men " should really be " peace on earth to all men of goodwill ".. now if they can screw something that simple up..what else in the bible have they screwed up?.
snoozy....

writetoknow, I could mention that trust is not faith (because in the end trust is reliant on the evidence), I could mention that the particular god you want to believe in has already been disproved or I could mention that in my case, I never had faith in the WTBS so I was never hurt enough to lose my faith. It's something I was never stupid enough to have. I could mention all those things, but this video sums up my feelings pretty well-

Ryan Sutter was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, baptized at age 15. Over a decade later, his "entire belief system fell apart, largely due to talkorigins.org". Sutter wrote to TalkOrigins, a famous post of the month entitled "You’ve changed my life. Thanks, I think." He also wrote a java program that shows the difficult position creationists are in trying to maintain such literal beliefs such as the Biblical Flood.
We discuss the Jehovah’s Witness belief, his upbringing in The Witnesses and later how talkorigins helped change his mind.http://www.ryansutter.net/audio/igshow_09062006.mp3
Pretty good stuff.

WHAT do YOU know about JESUS... and His teachings?
by hibiscusfire ini am interested to know what you know about jesus and what you really think of his teachings.. the bible says there is only one way to heaven.. jesus said: "i am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father but by me.
" (john 14:6) .
the lord jesus was crucified and shed his precious blood to wipe away our sins (revelation 1:5).

No, of course not! Mary did not forget about that. It is what Jesus told her that took her by surprise. Just like the teachers in the temple, no one would expect a little 12 year old to be that way. Mary just didn't think about how soon Jesus would start doing His Father's work. She didn't fully understand where Jesus was coming from in His answer.
How in the world did you get that meaning from the scriptures?
Luke 2:49,50:
"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Nothing about being surprised. Nothing about Mary thinking he should have been doing this later in life. It shouldn't have taken long to understand what he was saying if she was aware of his heritage.

Mary and Joseph were very surprised to find Jesus in the temple. Mary asked Him why he had stayed there when they were going home. She told Him how worried they were and how they had looked everywhere for Him.
You know what Jesus said? He said," Why did you look for me? Didn't you know that I would be at my Father's house?"
Mary did not even understand what Jesus meant!
That's very strange. Did Mary forget God's spirit made her pregnant when she was a virgin, and that Jesus was God's son? It was only 12/13 years earlier.

What kind of positive proof would you need....
by journey-on into accept the existence of god?
(i'm not talking about "a big man in the sky" kind of deity.
) what would it take to convince you that mankind was intentionally created by a powerful and intelligent creative force?

worldtraveller:
The fact that we are here indicates clearly to all that there must be a beginning. Everything has a beginning, like a tree or an invention.
But not a god? If a god can be eternal, then why couldn't the universe be eternal? Our own universe had a beginning (around 15 billion years ago) but matter or energy or something could have existed before that. There are a lot of cool theories on what was before the Big Bang (multiverse theory, etc). It makes more sense to think of the universe as eternal- we can see the universe, we know it exists. We cannot see a god, we cannot know that exists.
Looking into the future, do we think there will be an end? Perhaps there will be an end to earth, or our universe, but an end of everything? Time, matter, energy? I doubt we'd think that, so if we see the future as endless, why is it so hard to think of the past as being endless? Time is relative, we just happen to be moving forwards through it.

The argument I've heard about this (from a teacher no less - a die hard Baptist) is that carbon dating is unreliable.
Christian scientists (an oxymoron) would say that. Every other scientist wouldn't. Science is only reliable when it doesn't go against the scriptures for Christians. I wonder if they believe carbon dating accurately dated the dead sea scrolls and other ancient texts.

Biblical record speaks of very long life spans. Adam lived over 900 years.
According to the Bible, Adam was alive 6000 years ago. How do you explain the fact that human fossils have been found which predate this time?
Life was much different before Noah's flood. There are fossils to prove this too. For example, there is evidence in samples of ancient amber that the atmosphere contained twice as much oxygen is it does today and that the atmospheric pressure was much greater. Therefore, there would have been other animals and plants living on the earth before we even dreamed to be born.
Please provide proof (even a non Christian link) that the Earth was so drastically different just over 4000 years ago.
