i'll admit that for as far back as i can remember, i've picked up little crushes on celebrities.
i think one of my first crushes was on olivia newton-john after seeing her in grease at 5 years old and later in xanadu.. i've had crushes on:.
jennifer connelly (labrynth)gwyneth paltrow (hook briefly and later emma)cate blanchett (elizabeth, pushing tin)meredith salenger (the journey of natty gann, but especially, especially, in dream a little dream)kate beckingsale (much ado about nothing, cold comfort farm (not underworld, though she's smokin' in that.

I saw it and loved it when I never expected to. It was way better than Die Another Day. Halle Berry sure looks good, but that was some God awful dialogue.

what the hell is the point......?.
1.undeserved kindness.
ask yourself why you don't deserve kindness.
Hi Terry,
It took me a while to understand your point, but I think I have it now. Christianity is just one among hundreds of religions, yet over time has come out to dominate most others. Why is that? Is it a fulfillment of the promise that Jesus made regarding his people spreading all over the earth? Perhaps.
I think Christianity has done alot of good and alot of bad throughout history, Jehovah's Witnesses included. The problem with orthodox Christianity is that it's too patriarchal. Women are treated like property, the earth is seen as a resource to be exploited, animals are seen as being inferior and must be subdued, and everyone else must be converted to Christianity.
Let me put it this way. When the Europeans first came to the Americas, the Native Americans (or at least the Iroquois) were unlike anything they had ever seen before. They had no bible, no Christ, no monarchy. Everything about their culture was centered on giving back to the earth, which was their mother. All the animals were their brothers, and they knew nothing of the concept of material wealth. In fact, the Europeans remarked that the first thing they had to teach them was greed. The idea of money as a source of power, that in order for someone to win, someone else would have to lose. They were so confused by the Europeans. The idea of owning land with a peice of paper was crazy. You don't own the land, you are a part of the land. To try to possess it would be like trying to own the oxygen in the air. Remember when Manhattan was bought for a handful of beans? Not to mention the settlers obsession with strange peices of yellow rock called "gold."
There is an old Native American belief called the Seven Generation Rule. Basically it means asking yourself when you have to make an important decision, what would your ancestors have done seven generations ago, and how your decision will affect your decedents seven generations from now. They used this principle whenever they had to decide to go to war, or to move the tribe, or break bread with the Europeans. It's hard to explain in words what they believed, but suffice it to say that it might be superior to our modern way of life.
Think about the JW's of the early 1900's or 1960's or anytime for that matter. If they bothered to consider how their current beliefs would affect their children, or the discarded doctrines of generations past, would they realize the magnitude of their sins? Probably not. The idea that everything you believe is a lie and the organization you stood for is guilty of the worst crimes imaginable is enough to drive anyone crazy.
To sum up, I don't think it's God's or the bible's fault for how much Christianity has gotten screwed up, but rather man's fault. Specifically, greedy white men.

i know this might sound silly, but one of the most annoying things i find about my mom being a jw is how often she prays.
normally, i would never criticize someone for praying to god, but she prays in such a way that makes me angry for some reason.
let me explain:.
I know this might sound silly, but one of the most annoying things I find about my mom being a JW is how often she prays. Normally, I would never criticize someone for praying to God, but she prays in such a way that makes me angry for some reason. Let me explain:
What I'm about to say is no exaggeration at all. My mom literally says grace every single time she puts food in her mouth. Three meals a day and snacks in between, she prays. The other day at McDonalds, she prayed over her fish sandwich, then when we were done and I had a leftover chicken nugget, she prayed again! Let me say that again, she said grace over a CHICKEN NUGGET!!
The words she says are always exactly the same: "Thank you God Jehovah for this beautiful day, thank you for the air in my lungs, I thank you for this beautiful food through your son Jesus Christ amen," and that's just the short version. She says this every time. And it's not just what she says; it's how she says it. First of all, she makes a huge deal about NOT making the sign of the Cross. She closes her eyes and bows her head and whispers in a way so that everyone can hear her. It all seems so phony and self-righteous and yet she is so passionate about it. She says she's giving thanks. I know I'm probably picking on her too much, but trust me, if you saw her; it would scare the crap out of you too.
I should point out that she is handicapped both physically and perhaps mentally and has led a very hard life. Many people have discriminated against her. But is that a valid reason for praying so much? I seem to recall somewhere in the bible where it said too much prayer was a bad thing. In my own church we are taught not to pray too much. Personally, I never pray to God for material things unless they're for someone else, and I only say grace if I was in danger of starving before getting food, or there was an important occasion, like a family gathering. It's not that I'm ungrateful or that I put her down for giving thanks to God, and I do know how it feels to starve. It just feels wrong to keep praying all day long. So, this led me to a few questions I hope you all can answer:
1) Do you pray? Why or why not?
2) If you do, than whom do you pray to? Do you believe there is a right one and a wrong one to pray to?
3) How often do you pray?
4) What are the general things you pray for? Do you mostly ask for things for yourself or for others?
4) If you consider yourself religious, than do the rules of your religion influence how you pray?
5) If you are atheist or agnostic or have a nature based religion (for example Wicca), do you have your own form of prayer? How do you view those who are religious who pray?
6) Do you believe everyone has the right to pray? If not, than who doesn't?
7) Do you believe there should be a certain qualification for prayer, or that certain people should not be allowed to pray? If so, than who determines these qualifications and what would they be?
8) Any more thoughts?
Sorry there's so many questions, I just wanted people to think about it and give an honest response. As for my mom, don't be afraid to disagree with me, I would appreciate everyone's input!

I think the guy in the middle falling into the pit is either Mickey Rourke:

Notice how the first thing on their mind after armageddon is to move into all the dead rich people's houses, they care nothing about God or salvation, it's all about the material things with them. That hardly sounds like Jesus's idea of humility and how the meek shall inherit the earth.
As for the birds, I don't see them having a taste for human flesh for we are far too crunchy and no good without ketchup.

hi everyone, it's good to be back.
last thursday, as i lay on the couch stuffed full of turkey, i had the sudden idea for a discussion, and please forgive me if this has been asked before.. when my brother came back from college and we began to clean the apartment for the impending arrival of the rest of the family for thanksgiving dinner (my mom was of course not calling it that), he asked her why she had so many stacks of watchtower magazines everywhere.
they were all organized by date in zip lock bags, not including her bound volumes and study books.
Thanks to everyone for the response, Finally Free, I think I remember that scan and I appreciate that, it must have been hard work to find it.
Code Blue: I totally agree, I just don't see how JW's reconcile this descrepancy. There's no way of getting around the truth, absolutely nothing the watchtower predicted has come true, yet they still claim divine intervention. Go figure.
Ded poet and New York44: I know it sounds strange, actually even for the JW's she hordes an unusual amount of magazines. Her friend, who was responsibile for converting her yelled at her the other night for having too many! Talk about choking on your spiritual food!
six months after becoming the largest christian denomination to endorse same-sex marriage, the united church of christ (ucc) reported that less than 1 percent of its churches have separated from the denomination.
the ucc report, issued thursday, noted that 49 churches -- out of 5,725 churches total -- have voted to disaffiliate, and nearly all of those cited disagreement with the ucc marriage equality resolution, adopted in early july.
"the number of departing churches is far fewer than some had earlier expected," said john h. thomas, president and general minister of the ucc.
Hi Enigma, it's nice to see you. I was just wondering if you could clarify what are the percentages of denominations in the UCC Church. I'm guessing the Watchtower has nothing to do with it? My applause to them for being so open and understanding.
By the way, on a totally unrelated note, is you avatar really a picture of yourself? Not that I'm looking or anything...

is your happiness thermostat stuck?
(11/27/06) the daily breeze.
studies of simple, long-term strategies to raise people's spirits suggest it doesn't have to be.. by malcolm ritter .
Hi Randy, hope you had a good holiday, and I'm glad to see your happiness thermostat is well adjusted. I wish I could say the same for myself. In fact, now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I was happy...
That's weird...

"watchtower society members claim to be different and better than the worldly people that they refer to as bird food.
society members refer to non-witnesses as bird food because they look forward to the time when the birds will feast on the flesh of dead non-witnesses after armageddon.
What the hell is this?
Jehovah is no respecter of persons. Neither are his people. But the world in which we live is.
So let me get this straight. We're supposed to believe that worldly people are the slaves of Satan because they believe in equality for all and since found segregation to be illegal. Furthermore, Jehovah and the JW's are superior to us because they believe in the inferiority of blacks and hispanics?
So I suppose Martin Luther King was the servant of Satan and Judge Rutherford was Jehovah's chosen disciple? Please. These people would feel right at home with the Nazis.
I'm literally speechless...
